Renting a boat can be fun, especially if you have someone to go in "halvsies" with you! Fishing from shore can be very productive, but you have to put in the time and legwork before it will pay off! Concentrate on a specific area close to home, once you learn to catch fish there... branch out. There are a multitude of patterns for any given species, experiment and find one that works for you! Live bait works well for a beginner, a lively minnow underneath a bobber is hard for most gamefish to resist! Fishing the weeds?... a Texas or Carolina rigged worm or lizard worked very slow is hard to beat! A spinnerbait or buzzbait can be very productive at times as well! I had my best results fishing small inline or beetlespin type spinnerson steep rocky slopes when I was starting out, cast out and let the lure sink to the bottom or close to the bottom and start your retrieve... usually a slow retrieve works best. REMEMBER the #1 rule!!!... if you arent losing at least a little bit of tackle, you aren't fishing where the fish are!!! The fishing Gods require that you pay "tribute" to them in $$$'s lost in fishing tackle... if you don't pay this "tribute", you will not be smiled upon!!!... simple as that!

Wooden Crank bait - NF.... well sort of....
Greencoachdog replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
Excellent work Jacques!!! Looks like you would give Norm Abrams a run for his money in the wood shop! ... as for the name, I like "Bite My Wood"!!! -
You may have a bad fuel line/bulb Lexy. The fuel filter will operate at about half when the engine is running... but they're cheap and replacing it won't hurt a thing. Has anyone worked on the carbs on this motor that you know of? There's a procedure that is called vacuum synchronizing that has to be done to these 4 strokes after the carbs have been worked on. If they've (the carbs) been worked on without this procedure it will cause problems... been the done that!

Nice report and pics Holdie!!! Looks like Spike is ready for that Walleye dinner!

Whats it take to be a weatherman/women
Greencoachdog replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
It's a beautiful day down here!!! Partly coudy and 78*F (25*C) with a nice breeze blowing... feels like I have an air conditioner on the roto tiller!!! -
If you'll service your impeller at the proper intervals, you won't have steam! ... tell the tree huggers to go sniff the steam off of a cup of camomile tea if the wanna se a hole in the ozone!!!
-
The 2 stroke smoke has brained your damage!!!... better check into rehab now!!! Let something happen to that boat rated for a 150 with a 175 on it and see what the insurance company has to say aboot it! ... quit sniffin' the 2 stroke smoke and sober up boy!!
-
C'mon... admit it... you're mentally challenged! Only an Idjit Galoot would consider going back to a 2 stroke after owning a 4 stroke! You kind of remind me of the "not-so-bright" folks around here that refer to Sauger as Jack SaLmon.

I love it when folks bash my post count!!! ... most of the time it shows/tells me they're grasping for straws! I've heard all about the high post count/ you dano't have a life thing... but if someone has enough time to worry about how many posts you've made on a particular message board... how much of a life do they have??? Hmmm? Posting is a sign of participation!........................and once you hit 6000 posts you're GOLDEN eh!!!... or so I've been told. Keep up the good posting Jocko.. it keeps the board from stagnating!

Fishing in Twelwe Mile Bay, off Georgian Bay
Greencoachdog replied to lunders's topic in General Discussion
It s indeed a White Perch... which aren't really Perch at all, they're a Temperate Bass kin to White (or Silver) Bass... and Saltwater Striped Bass. They are of the Morone family, Morone Americana to be exact. ... and they're pretty good table fare!!! -
Garden Update - Garlic Crop 2009 - NF
Greencoachdog replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
Looks like somebody is going to need a breath mint!!! Thanks for posting that Jacques!!! I've wondered how your garden is doing! Mine is doing great, I'm covered up with Yellow and Zucchini squash, and have Cucumbers coming out of my ears... Ol' Yeller has already put up 45 jars pickles (bread and butter, and spicy and mild Dills), relish, and chutney with the Cucumbers!!! My tomatoes are just now starting to come in, ate my first vine ripened one yesterday... man was that thing ever good!!! -
