  1. Notice the size and color of the dorsal, pectoral, and anular fins... very large... they confused between carp and suckers, the are Actually Red Horses! Pick out the one it looks like to you. http://www.picsearch.com/pictures/animals/...e%20sucker.html
  2. .. and that would be a Red Horse! You should really brush up on your creek/river species ID.
  3. Yup!!!... spooled the line on backwards!!! ... everybody has to be a newbie sometime!!!
  4. Too bad you weren't using the improved clinch. you'd have landed that fish!!! set your drag for "very light" if you're going to use that wimpy ass palomar knot!
  5. I don't remember seeing you post a report on your success or the lack thereof from your Temagami trip and the tips you recieved from here... are you on the all take and no give policy, or did I just miss it???
  6. DON'T FORGET THE DONUTS!!!
  7. ... but.. but... isn't it going to be frigid there at that time of year??? I'm allergic to cold weather, I break out in chills and get goosebumps whenever I'm exposed to it!!!
  8. Oh my goodness!!!... the big one got away!
  9. Yup!... and I would start out throwing a larger floating/diving bait so it will sit on the surface while you undo the backlash, instead of sinking to the bottom and possibly getting snagged!
  10. Not entirely true it cohabitates very well with the Korean Boxwood, the Kudzu thrives in the summer and then when the frost kills it back the Boxwood thrives in the winter... together they make a nearly impenetrable barrier!!! Click on the link Dude! http://www.kudzufest.net/ Look at the timelapse flash pic in the top left corner... it shows going from winter to summer.
  11. It's just a little present I sent up there to y'all! As a Kudzu battler from way back, I can tell you that there are only 2 ways to kill Kudzu!!! 1. Dig it up! 2. Keep it mowed short, no more than 3" tall... this takes about 3 or 4 years to actually kill the tuber. Herbacides will not kill the tuber, the leaves on the vine will turn yellow, fall off, and new ones will grow! We have Kudzu festivals down here in the South, with Kudzu eating contests, fried Kudzu, and even Kudzu wine! http://www.kudzufest.net/ The oldtimers call it foot-a-night here and claim if you sleep with your bedroom windows open it will creep in and steal you away, never to be seen again! The birds will eat the seeds and drop them elsewhere, but is spreads the most by just spouting roots whereever the vine touches the ground. Y'all have fun trying to kill it now... ya heah?!!!
  12. Adjust the spool tension knob so your bait slowly decends to the floor Mike, then you should put the cast control on the highest setting and work your way back as you get the feel for it. You should have fun picking the backlashes out with that 20 lb. braid, I'd have gone a little heavier to start with or an even better choice would have been mono to start with. Good Luck!
  13. Sounds like a SSR in Walleye color patten would be a good choice for those conditions!!!
  14. I try to use this one for that!
  15. I guess the ones that sign up are completely ignorant of what the military does eh? They've never watched the evening news, never read a newspaper, never seen a war movie on TV, and don't even realize that soldiers carry weapons? Get real! Yes they joined up for the benefits and the education... well guess what?... you have to work for those!!! You can actually quit the military in the U.S nowadays, yes it means a dishonorable discharge and loss of benefits, and I'm sure that if you took a reenlistment bonus you'd have to pay it back... and if that's why these people are fleeing the U.S, to keep from having to pay back the money they took... then they're nothing more than thieves!!!
  16. That's the most intelligent thing I've ever heard you say!... and I agree!
  17. Here's a news story about this mess: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32952369/ns/weather/?GT1=43001
  18. We're fine Bernie! Flood plain level is elevation 472 here, I believe my lot is 485. Where's your Dixie cup? The yard wont wash much Jacques... but I wouldn't advise walking on any of the tilled spots, I'd have to pull you out with the 4x4 Ford! The ground stopped absorbing water a few days ago Roy.

  20. OMG! OMG!!! the cantankerous Old Fart went fishing!!!??? ... Sounds like a great 2 night out on the water! I'd have liked to have seen a pic of the 3 keepers, but I know you were prolly too tired when you got back home. Good on you for getting out and even better for sharing with us!!! Thanks for taking the time to post that!!! ... now about that camera...
  21. An excellent report Cliff!!! ... but it looks like your captain didn't know diddley-squat about fishing. You were fishing the coral reef and caught the bait.. you just didn't send it back down for the bigger ones! This some type of small Jack (maybe Jack Crevalle)... send him back down to the bottom on a heavier rig for Grouper, Snapper, and maybe a 'Cuda. ... another good baitfish, this one has lots of flash with the silver sides on it! Squirrelfish, throw it back and be careful handling it, they're loaded with sharp spines! Blanc Sea Bass, another excellent bait! Your captain was also full of the stuff that stinks about fishing at night for the Tuna where y'all were fishing. Tuna fishing is good at night... but in 600 FOW!!!... and you need to out to 200 FOW for good Amberjack fishing. I'm not trying to be a damper on your report or trip, just trying to help for next time. The next time you book a trip, ask how deep the water will be that you'll be fishing in and what will you be fishing for before you give them your money. I really enjoyed your report, and it makes me want to haul- down to the coast and catch some bait to send down for a big'un!!!
  22. Looks like a decent day of Pickeral fishing Jacques!!! ... but I gotta tell ya, I would freeze to death in 35*F weather right now!!! It sounds like that cold front up there made the fishin' slow... but it looks like you and Paul did well considering the conditions!!! Thanks for taking the time to post those nice pic and report!!!
  23. Great report and pics Rob!!! You should try fishing those reeds sometime, you might be surprised! You should have another month or so of some good open water fishing eh? Thanks for taking the time to post those grat pics!!!
  24. Looks like y'all made the best out of a slow day Kevin!!! That's a real nice Pike and I'll bet it gave a good fight too!!! Thanks for sharing!
