  1. I still don't get WFN here. Who's the geeky guy with glasses in the commercial?
  2. Thanks..I spit cola all over my keyboard. That was funny, right there...and only an Ontarian would know why...
  3. Try using the search feature on this site...jeez.. http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7379
  4. You are correct that if the fish is unedible, then any charge is unlikley. But you would need knowledge of that BEFOREHAND for it to be a defense. Asking bass fisherman to properly handle and release a musky is like me asking you to optimize the database for this site. Easy once you know how to do it, but if you don't have the experience, you're taking a shot in the dark. If and when you do have a musky not survive, Matt, you are obligated to harvest it provided the fish is in the proper slot. It is a far greater abuse of the resource to leave a legal floater than to not. This fish was legal by all accounts and the knowledge of its toxicity was apparently not on hand. This means the angler did the right and ethical thing. Case closed.
  5. Not eating it would be illegal. So what would you prefer the guy do? IF you fish, some will die. If you think you've never killed a musky you are delusional. If you knowingly killed and did not eat the musky (or otherwise allow it to spoil) you broke the law.
  6. Still got one...grand total of nothing ever caught in 20 years.
  7. There is not enough natural reproduction for either the salmon or the rainbows to be self sustaining. The spring tribs here dry up much too quickly for the rainbows. Some argue that there is lots of natural reproduction, but the same people usually yell if you say we should stop stocking them. None of these fish are native to these waters, so they would not naturally be able to sustain their own population.
  8. The rainbows reproduce to an extent, but the salmon are definitely put and take. Most trout species can survive being released from 30 or so feet. Other species like walleye usually do not, which is why most times on Erie it is pretty much all catch and keep.
  9. We were just having some routine maintenance done. Every two weeks we have the guys at IPS do a bunch of load tests and stuff. Usually only takes them an hour to finish. I also have them try and brute force attack the site once a month and since we have a few settings looser here than what is SOP, that takes them longer. If you've ever seen a site destroyed by a hacker you'll know why we go through this. It is a minor inconvenience and gives some people something to talk about.
  10. Glad Chris was finally feeling well enough to get out! Super glad you guys got into some fish.
  11. Put it up on youtube then post the link here. We cannot afford the disc space and bandwidth needed for hosting videos.
  12. Still not available in Fonthill, either, Corey. Who do i gripe to to get some swag???
  13. Sorry..re-reading the original estimate from the muffler shop had the cat assembly at 1200, not 1700.
  14. So far we've not seen one party at all put anything meaningful into the MNR since the early 1990's. With the rising cost of healthcare and education, it is a tough sell for any party to say "We're taking this 100m and putting into fish and squirrel stuff rather than new MRI's or a cancer clinic'. It is a tough reality.
  15. A friends vehicle (1996 Mustang) ended up a with a few nasty problems as older cars tend to do. First one of the catalytic converters got a hole in it, the shifter cable seized, the muffler broke off ( a few days after a visit for an estimate at one of the major muffler shops, no less...coincidence I am sure ) and the lower door hinge let go on the drivers side door. She took in for a few estimates... Catalytic converter... $1700 Door Hinges $450 Shifter Cable $500 Muffler and Tail pipe $350 Total... $3000...value of car...much less. Now I've a family friend in Welland who owns a Body and Mechanical Shop. His father and my grandfather were best of friends. I took the car in and told him the deal. He said to let him look at it and see what he could do. A few days later the car is done...total cost $700. The cat was repaired rather than replacing the entire assembly, the new hinges (upper and lower) installed and painted, new exhaust, and shifter cable. There are stil decnet honest mechanics out there (other than Nipissing of course). So a big thanks and great job to Georges Body Shop in welland, ON. http://www.georgesbodyshop.biz
  16. It's easy biology. Larger fish require more oxygen to survive. Larger fish are more likely to be attacting several mates during spawn increasing their exposure level. Larger carp are older and nearing their end of the life cycle. There is no other rational explanation. The outbreak occured during spawn which created a natural positive environment for the virus. The other species of fish, like the cats, were not in the area and not congregated like the carp were when the heat wave and subsequent O2 level drop occured. It is a natural phenomenon that actually has a healthy end result for the fish. Only when populations get too high do these types of problems occur. The non-resistant fish or the older less hearty fish die off in the process. Fish die offs happen all the time. Just look at any beach in early June or late fall for massive die offs from thermal shock.
  17. Vacation pay is paid by the employer, not from taxes or withouldments from pay. If you are salary it is part of your salary package. The current law says the employer must give the equivalent of two weeks paid time off after one year of employment. The employer must also give 10 days off (paid or unpaid at the discretion of the employer) for such things as sickness, sickness of a child or spouse etc. There is also a provision for the caretaker of a terminally ill parent or child and time off for the that. We also have parental leave allowing one parent or both a cumulative total of one year off (receiving UI benefits) to care for a newborn of newly adopted child with their jobs secured upon return.
  18. My employer is very fair and goes out of their way for me.
  19. I don't find it hard to believe since the die off occured right after/during spawn when the carp would be heavily congregated and more apt to spread the virus. Younger fish would have not been as exposed to it and less likely to cross-contaminate. Catfish would not have been around the same areas either. The virus is naturally occurring and, like other viruses like the common cold, is only an issue when populations get condensed for short periods of time.
  20. There's a difference between letting a CO in to have a look around your freezer and the police or CO's wandering into your residence whenever they feel like it. I know all of you would be quite upset if you came home twice a week to find the police rummaging through your house whether you have anything to hide or not. I am, and have always been, a strict believer in following the resource laws....but that must apply to everyone. It is important we defend our resources, but it is more important that those who enforce the laws, obey them. If an officer is willing to overlook one of the basic tenet's of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, what does this say to his/her credibility? What does it say when an officer is willing to give away his credibility in front of a judge like that? What possible chance does he now have of convicting a real poacher when the defense attorney will know this guy is a rogue officer? Any good lawyer will bury this CO every time he takes the stand.
  21. Do a search here for West Arm or Lakair and you'll get lots of info.
  22. Absolutely! But at the same time the people must be protected from unreasonable search and seizure and must have the right to be lawful citizens without harassment. There will always be rogue officers in every line of law enforcement, just like there will always be poachers.
  23. What are the best camcorders out there for video/sound quality? I've been asked to consider producing a low budget 'How-to' DVD and am looking for cameras wit some features like.. Wireless Mic input Hi quality video (not necessarily HD) Ease of use Readily available storage medium. I've seen the new ones with a built in hard drive, mini-dvd (how do you transfer that to PC?), and regular DVD medium. Also seen ones with SD card drives. Advice??
  24. Reasonable suspicion, hot pursuit or one other exception..though the name escapes me..if they believe you are in the process of destroying evidence they can go in. But no, they cannot enter your residence, whether temporary or permanent, arbitrarily.
