  1. Johnny, I don`t think the reel is worth much. Up front price at the time of original sale has some factor in the worth of an older reel, quality reels when they were made usually command a higher price because price was a limiting factor in the numbers made and sold. The used to be a lot more different brands made and sold, a lot of stores had store brands made by reel companies but with a store brand name eg., JC Higgins I think was Sear`s home brand, Ted Williams may have been one for Sears also. It might have a little value to someone that collects that particular brand, but I see nothing special in that reel. I was into the older Abu`s, but did buy a Langley once, price was right and it was the first baitcaster I remember using.
  2. Only 22 inches? I just don`t see it being a 12 pound fish.
  3. Nice looking boat and great pictures, been to the Falls a few times but never seen that part.
  4. Soft plastics and jigs/tubes for me, hard to beat the fun of topwater/buzzbaits but hookups aren`t always good, usually if I stick-em with a soft plastic/jig they stay stuck.
  5. Great pictures and report Brian, good job in tough conditions. Nice to see father and son teams!
  6. Possible, but for reports like that I like to see a picture. 10 pound bass is a good bass anywhere, never saw one much over 7 here except in pictures. Some lakes that get a lot of pressure can still produce big fish, some can`t or don`t. I think Lew`s was 8lbs, a real nice fish.
  7. You are a great master, from the grasshopper.
  8. Me, LOL I will answer to a lot of names, some you can`t print.
  9. Try harder it works in fishing too http://www.handdrawngames.com/DesktopTD/GroupScoreboard.asp LOL can you tell I don`t get out much?
  10. Welcome littlefish?
  11. Welcome Hutch, I never stayed at Pleasant Cove, Dad did but like in 1961, they have been around a long time. It has been a long time since my last trip up to Pointe Au Baril but for a first timer use caution until you know your way around, there are lots of rocks in the water and a lot of islands, be aware of where you are. The water for the most part is well sheltered unless you run all the way out to the main GB, I tooled around there as a kid in a 14 foot Aluminum with a 5hp motor. There are navigation maps available, I got one here in Ohio at a marine store years ago. It is a beautiful area, fishing pressure has probably increased since my last trip there in 1989, but a lot of species available. Bass, largemouth and smallmouth, Walleye, pike, Muskies, panfish, catfish, gar pike, bowfin, carp, you name it. Panfish like perch and bluegill are all over, also some crappie but we didn`t usually fish for panfish. Bass more or less where you would expect them to be, Largemouth in the weeds and lilies smallies in deeper weeds, around rocks and reefs, points. There are some good areas very close to Pleasant Cove, it wasn`t unusual to find some 18 to 20 inchers. At times you can find them both in the same area. A Johnson silver minnow with a pork frog snaked thru the lilies, an unweighted plastic lizard texas rigged or texas rigged jerk bait have worked. Surface lures like a buzzbait, jitterbug, hula popper, heddon torpedo, pop-r also work. Most of your bass lures will take other species. First choice for smallies would be tubes, points, deeper weed edges, around rocks and reefs. Lures like a perch or silver and black rapala floating or diving minnow also work, for a variety of species. There were lots of small pike up to six pounds or so, bigger ones not as common and took more work to find them. Not a lot of skis, but some huge ones. I have caught walleye on a number of different lures there, toughest part was finding them, they can be just about anywhere. Try up the river, points off of the main channel, around some of the islands in Shawanaga bay. PM for more info.
  12. grilw, the man does know how to provoke thought. As someone who has seen more doctors in the last 4 years than in the previous 51 there are some issues with our system. Still our healthcare system is one of the best in the world and it does deal with a lot of people, 300 million plus and that alone will cause issues. I have had some issues myself with the system and have learned when in doubt change doctors, they are not all equal. Still I am not ready to leave the country for medical care.
  13. Happy birthday Gary! May you see many more! I second the male ego thing, don`t tough it out get to the doctor!
  14. A lake I fished in New York had a weed control problem, the state managed the lake and it had semi-limited public access. The some of the residents weren`t really happy with the job the state was doing to manage the weed problem and spread chemicals on top of what the state had done, on the sly, and there was a fish kill caused by it. Carp are pretty tough, can handle water other fish can`t, don`t know what would cause a carp die off.
  15. I have used crappie tubes and grubs(1 1/2-2 inch) for bass when the bite was tough, but most of the time I am throwing a 6 inch plastic worm or lizard. 12 inch and smaller have no problems taking them. I also use 4 inch worms and lizards at times. LOL, Canadian bass on the Georgian Bay will also eat the big stuff. Sure the growing season isn`t as long but there are some nice fish up there. I always used the same stuff up there for bass that I used here, didn`t seem to make a difference.
  16. How thick are the weeds? All the way to the surface? A lure (soft plastic) like a frog weedless of the top of thick weeds or lilies. A six inch plastic worm or lizard rigged with a 4/0 hook and allowed to sink just with the hook weight in pockets. Texas or carolina rigged to fish deeper thru less dense weeds. Sometimes the weed aren`t as dense near the bottom, a texas rigged and pegged tube with a heavy slip sinker will punch thru the surface mat and get to the fish.
  17. I don`t know the water you are fishing, but bass and walleye will herd minnows to the shoreline, like a causeway and trap them and pick them off as they come out. A shallow to medium running crankbait can work well sometimes, lures like a rattletrap, bandit 100 and 200 series, storm wiggle wart. I prefer chrome and black, gold and black, chrome and blue to match baitfish. If the causeway sides are covered with rip-rap(stone-rock) a crawfish color or lure that imitates one can also work well.
  18. Sorry to hear it Cliff! My father-in-law also a Herb called today and he and my mother-in-law just Pat are also not doing well. Not my actual parents but I love them as much.
  19. You can get a boat bilge pump( larger one) and a boat float switch and rig something up, I think they only draw a couple amps of current so a deep cycle or regular car battery should run it for a pretty long time? a couple days?
  20. I think I have a couple on older Arbogast lures, they have a plastic weed guard that covers the points. I have no idea if they are still made, and I didn`t feel they worked that well. It was a plastic 1 piece weed guard that was slid on the hook shank. Some lures I just didn`t throw much in weeds, easier to use a different style of lure that is weedless.
  21. urban don`t panic, here is a site with some info http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003097.htm
  22. Yep, Emergency room, family doctor, LOL even the nearest vet. Get it checked out!
  23. LOL Roy great shots of a great group!
  24. I like 6 1/2 or 7 foot rods medium or medium heavy action, I have no brand preference, it just has to feel good in my hand and have the right action. I don`t designate a rod as a spinnerbait rod or for this or that. Some are better suited for different lures or methods though.
  25. Can I get one of the geezer sleeping in the chair? It reminds me of me!
