  1. 70? what do they have a beer bottle opener on them? LOL they look good Roy nice job!
  2. I like natural colors, silver- black back, perch, shad, anything that looks like food fish, sucker patterns, walleye patterns, haven`t used trout patterns but with the numbers in the Great Lakes it might work.
  3. Since replacing my original cranking battery years ago I have always used deep cycle batteries to start my 35 merc. Might not be a good plan with a bigger motor? 4 or 6 cylinder, mines a 2 cylinder, all my electronics run off the battery used for cranking also. I carry two extra for the electric bow mount, 12v.
  4. Congrats TJ, it is the best I have seen.
  5. I had like 25 years straight of trips to Ontario, never had a problem with a CO or DNR here, their job is to enforce the rules, mine to obey them. LOL I did get the comment one time" all this tackle and no fish? I fish for them, I don`t enjoy eating them.
  6. Johnny I used the Bitsy Bug jigs often, the Bitsy Bug flip has a better hook, but also some small hair jigs that are probably more of a walleye jig than bass jig, the problem with them is the hook, most have a light wire hook(aberdeen) and around cover care is needed, the hook will straighten on a snag, but also on bigger bass if you try to horse them away from the cover. Black and Blue is a good color, my buddies son that fishes tournaments here uses that color all the time. I mixed it up more but used black and blue also. Browns and greens, some with orange mixed in, all black, even all white, the baitfish thing. Had some real good days throwing a 1/8 ounce Roadrunner with a small pork frog or grub. LOL, I fished Lake Chautaqua in New York 3 times, 2 day tournaments and couldn`t catch a bass, couldn`t land the muskies I hooked. Hooked one on a 1/8 ounce spinnerbait with a 2 inch grub trailer, 40 plus inch fish 10# test line. The next day hooked a bigger ski that went airborne, right next to my partner in the back of the boat. I don`t see him often, but he still calls me "not for long" that is what I said when he saw me hook both skis, you got a big ski! "not for long". 4 time was a charm on that lake for me, I caught bass fishing the wrong side of the boat, away from shore pulling tubes up the deep edge. LOL I was proud of my 12 pounds, until the weigh in, my buddies kid and his partner weighed in like 24 pounds, one was a 7.2 smallie. Day 2 was worse.LOL Always fun though!
  7. Great report Brian! LOL glad most of the lakes I fished here didn`t have pike!
  8. Great pictures Terry!
  9. Great pictures, hmmm Canadian double wide tent?
  10. Johnny first time I saw a tube lure I wasn`t really interested although I had used the old tube worms with some success, I think Knight tackle made them. I use a lot of small stuff at times, 1/8 th and even 1/16th ounce jigs, the small catches all thing. Since a lot of my fishing was tournaments I was looking for 5 keepers first, the big ones will take small stuff a 12-13 incher might not be eager to take a bigger lure. Took me a while to get comfortable with the spinnerbaits also, LOL my brother Mike has out fished me some days using the in-line spinners like a Mepps or Rooster tail. You just never know what the hot lure of the day will be. Most of the time I throw 3 1/2 inch tubes, usually much more inclined to go smaller than larger.
  11. They sell the for stocking in ponds here for weed control, triplod white amur or something like that. They are supposed to be sterile? LOL roll them over and spread their fins to check? Seen some in ponds 30-40 pounds, like a pig rooting on the bottom. Cool segment on the news here last week, extreme bow fishing on the Illinois river, hit the carp in the air with a bow.
  12. LOL Go Home Lake? got to love the name! Great report John. No clue why a jig and pig sometimes will out fish a tube or visa-versa, even same color patterns, fall rate? profile?
  13. I have seen them do it here for catfish, LOL bigger jug though, usually like a 1 gallon white bleach bottle.
  14. Night fishing? Most of mine has been for bass, but walleye and anything that will bite also. Live bait works day or night, nightcrawlers, minnows. To keep a kid interested it might be the way to go, most species will eat them, for kids fishing means catching. To many boring nights of not catching might cause the interest level to drop. The natural smell, motion, of live bait, a wounded struggling baitfish, prepared baits for cats, store bought or chicken livers and such., although minnows and crawlers have worked just as well for me for cats. Basic bass tackle, top water lures, and everything else, amazing how small a lure they can find in the dark, it doesn`t have to be a noise maker type lure. Dark 4 inch worm on a jig head if the water is not too weedy or full of snags, texas rigged if there is junk in the water. Small jig and pork rind, a lot of baits can work. Just me but for kids I am more interested in them catching any fish than a big one, that can come later. The 1 1/2-2 inch crappie, panfish jigs work, small enough for any fish to eat them. I haven`t caught many cats on artificial lures, more of a rarity than rule. Bass, walleye, panfish, sheephead, the odd muskie hookup( I don`t fish for them on purpose, enough trouble in daylight) like one pike. Light attracts baitfish, lights on a dock, near shore. not legal in places to intentionly bring your own in places, but use fixed ones. How you go about it depends on what you are after. Night is nice, the crowds are usually gone, fish tend to move closer to shore to feed.
  15. Er? fall out of the boat? Before happy hour or after? Lures mentioned should work, try deep during the day towards evening try the mouths of coves that have deep water at the entrance, points that fall off fast, the deep edges of any weed flats. They probably won`t be far from food, which for big pike could be perch or walleye. I like being on the water up north from 4pm till dark. Pike will take a jig and pig too, 5/8 or larger worked on the edges of deep weeds dressed up with a big pork frog, pork worm, even soft plastic lizard 6-8 inch. The bump from a pike or ski is a lot more solid than from a bass.
  16. Ya nice fat smallies!
  17. Just me, I am cheap, if it runs good and doesn`t cost much to fix? A little weld and grind?
  18. Robert, I bought my first Abu reel when I was like 13, a 1750 used nothing but Abu baitcasters, 5000`s, 5001`s, 6000`s, Ultra Mag XL`s, also bought some models that had issues right out of the box and a short sales life. Usually a good reel is sold a long time with no problems, I used my 5001c`s for 20-25 years. LOL got an Ultra cast sitting in the barn short lived model with a reason for it.
  19. Clamp-It, I watched one of my operations managers be-rate and be-little the osd clerk(another member of the management team) because he had a tummy ache. sissey, little girl wants to go home. Dude was so embarrassed, but visibley ill he stayed, rushed to the hospital later that night for an appendectomy. Some people are morons, but expect you to feel bad for them when they have a problem. Your health is number 1.
  20. Glad your back on! Great pictures and report! Like to see the kids outside fishing!
  21. Robert, what will the reel be used for? Most reels of the same model come in a range of sizes and retrieve ratios. A model number like a 100,1000 usually denotes a smaller reel, 200 a midsize, good all around reel, maybe not suited for bigger fish, eg., muskie, salmon. Most of the guys I fished with used old style Shimano Curados, dependable reels with few or any issues. They redesigned the curado last year I believe, I haven`t heard of any issues with the new model, price went up, comparable to the high end revo. Most use the 200R/H-201LH. Like cars a matter of preference on the brand, and usage it is intended for on size and gear ratio. Faster retrieve reels eg., 7 to1 are usually intended for burning a buzzbait or spiinerbait, slower ones for cranking deep diving lures, crankbaits, slow rolling a spinnerbait deep. I don`t need any more reels, I got enough to take me out the door, if I was going to buy an all purpose reel? a Shimano 201L/H around 6 to 1 gear ratio. Just what I consider a good all around reel, lots of opinions on different brands though. House brands like BPS, Cabela`s? No experience with them, and I don`t know many people that buy them. You will get some more opinions, that was just mine, all my baitcastera are older Abu`s or older Shimano`s.
  22. Robert, this is just my opinion, Abu seems to have a lot of quality issues with new reels. The old ones seemed bullet proof(60`s-70`s maybe the C-3`s). Some of the later models seemed to have repeated problems and didn`t stay in production long. I have a lot of older Abu reels but would be leary of buying one of their new models until it had been around awhile. It seems the Revo series was designed and priced to compete with? say the Shimano Curado? Just seems odd the issues with some of their reels, in the 60`s and 70`s Abu pretty much owned the high end freshwater reel market.
  23. Real hard to beat a Mcdonalds filet!
  24. Great pictures and report! LOL and no black and yellow?(er, gold!) Hats off to Dad, nice fish!
  25. Nice hat! I like the mellow rock myself. New waters are fun, it`s a game like any other, but you are outside playing it. LOL lost some good fish myself, the muskie bump is always fun.
