Brian, I was like 12? a labor day long weekend trip and my last time in a tent. It started raining while we napped after the drive and never stopped. Changing times? My son is 30, and most of his friends have never been to Canada.- 19 replies

My top 5 walleye lures for a northern lake
OhioFisherman replied to gordy28's topic in General Discussion
We used to use hot n tots and wiggle warts here on Lake Erie for walleye in the late 70's and 80's, the hot n tots of that era had a tendency for the bill to break loose from the body and the body would start taking on water, no problems with newer versions? Both would get down in the 20 foot range long line trolling with 8# test line. Chrome and black, gold and black were the best colors here. we stopped using the hot n tots because of the bill issues bandit 200's worked as well at times. I don't have a go to list for Ontario, what they wanted seemed hit and miss up there.- 12 replies

My dad and one of my brothers made a trip to Dale Hollow lake for a couple of years in April searching for those 2# plus crappie, one year a tornado had gone thru just before they got there and tore things up and the next year they hit storms again, but not quite as bad. They didn't find crappie, but did catch trout, not what they expected from down south. The biggest bowfin I have ever seen. in the 20 pound range came at the Pointe, totally unexpected because all the others we had caught were in the 4-6 pound range.- 19 replies

Something fishy in the fall? The pending leader heard he would have to take a polygraph test and dropped out? Hmmm? Sad to have things like that happen.

With the exception of a long week end camping trip to Rice Lake all of my trips were drive to and cabin or trailer rentals at small cabin rental places. Always a housekeeping plan, I didn't mind cooking, and as a vacation I had no interest in keeping anyone's schedule other than my own. I preferred two week trips over one and the Pointe Au Baril area was isolation enough for me. I turned down fly in, trips to Lake of the woods, and other long trips here and up north, just not a travel fan.- 19 replies

Fresh, we have a Grand River here too that empties into Lake Erie in Painesville Ohio, after some digging I found out it has a limited natural occurring muskie population.

That doesn't really surprise me Phil, as a kid Sandusky Bay was one of our spring hot spots for Crappie and Blue gills, and I have caught walleye in the bay in the spring bass fishing, some seem slower than others to move out to the main lake? LOL, surprised the weren't full of small carp? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redear_sunfish These may become more common in Erie with all the zebra mussels?

The hot spot is over there! -
It's over and that 12.690 fish seems to have held up, given the weather in the area the last month or so it's not a surprise, opportunities to get out safely on Lake Erie, or even some of it's break walls and piers was reduced. Weather may have also affected their feeding? resulting in lower weights? Although for a lot of the warmer water season there seemed to be a shortage of Emerald Shiners. Not sure how much a 10+ pound walleye depends on 3-4 minnows for food? Can't complain about walleyes that size no matter where you are?

Tips on organizing a fly-in fishing trip

Is there a particular species they want to target? That might help eliminate? -
I saw an article the guys that won the big bass tournament on Simcoe last year? I believe they said they used their electronics to locate smallies and then a camera to make sure they were the size they wanted. Going back a lot of years, my buddy's son and his partner used one on Lake Chautauqua in New York, they had a muskie bump the camera, saw other fish, but getting them to hit was problematic? If you see fish? how much time are willing to spend enticing them to eat? That said? I wish they had today's tools and equipment when I was still fishing.

What engine was causing all the problems for OMC years ago?

Fall brawl ends Sunday, and the leaders fish at 12.690 may hold up, it's been sort of crappy weather to get on Erle.

So a propane outboard would be a 4 stroke ( inboard also ). other than running slightly cleaner the advantage would be?

Gar, Muskie & Sturgeon. Three Reports.

So your prices for walleye are about the same as ours? no idea what perch. Saw that title the irishman and thought it was another danny green story. -
Some one has to collect all those old beer cans?

The two years that had the heaviest first place fish also had the highest average weight fish for the top five. Our area had like 5 inches of snow last Monday evening into Tuesday, a bit early for that much snow here, and it wasn't completely gone until Sunday, which probably affected the opportunities for people to get out in safe weather.

Sorry to hear about Roy's health issues he was always good to me, and I have only met two people from the board.

Hmmm? First they banned non residents from catching their own bait, now it has progressed to residents? As a citizen in possession of a valid license should you not be entitled to catch your own bait anywhere a commercial netter is allowed?

Don't panic? There were all kinds of doom and gloom articles when the mussel and gobie invasion started here on the south side of Lake Erie, the mussels can be a pain, the gobies just seemed to turn into another food option for a variety of other fish species. I personally view the common carp as a big danger, they get huge and seem to consume anything in their path, a lot of food for other fish gets consumed growing those water hogs to 30 - 50 pounds? I certainly don't think allowing the gobies to spread any farther is a good idea, some of your trout streams, rivers , and lakes really couldn't handle them? Small hair jigs like those will catch just about anything. l
