  1. Ya but did you see Paul Elias on Falcon Lake? LOL before I cull a 7 pounder I have to catch one.
  2. Glad to hear you got it worked out, my first thought was also the plug wires. My Astro and Safari vans with the 4.3 engine started having problems in wet weather around 125,000, it was time to change plug wires. It looks like the coils are separate for each cylinder? The thing that goes over the plug? Computer controlled distribution of spark signal? If you got the plug from the dealer I would assume it is the proper plug, a wrong heat range on them can also cause bucking, mis- firing.
  3. danbob, my own opinion is you don`t need to break the bank on rods, the most expensive one I own cost about 100 bucks, a falcon flipping stick made for a spinning reel. My goal when choosing one is comfort and action, brand and price is secondary. A tool I was going to handle all day, I wanted one that felt right, and was comfortable for me. Sensitivity? always nice, but you develop a feel I think with experience, not all hits are the same, some times a good solid bump, sometimes just a side motion in the line when there shouldn`t be one, sometimes the fish is swimming at you on the pickup. Just be alert, get an idea of what the lure feels like in the water, moving over junk and be aware of odd feelings they may be a fish. Odd stuff happens out there on the water, I have had smallies in the spring come out of the water for a lure before it hit the water, pike grab a lure and swim right at me and the only clues I had were a slack line and I couldn`t see the lure, just the pike. Some times the lure just stops fallling in the water before it should hit bottom. Be alert and aware of what is going on. Not really much difference other than a method of getting a lure accurately to where the fish hang out, with practice you should be able to set a 4x4 in the yard and lay the lure on either side of it, skip a lure under a dock, bush on shore overhanging the water. You can get to water some can`t, and fish like junk.
  4. A pretty good run down by Capt Bruce, heavily pressured waters here and I also mixed in smaller baits, like say a crappie sized 1 1/2- 2 inch tube with a 1/16th ounce tube jig, a tough bite lure, a 4 inch ring worm on a 1/16th jighead also. Don`t be afraid to mix it up what you think might be the best choice isn`t always.
  5. Not to get of topic but vibration is more of a problem in boats than cars, then add in the pounding from waves, rough water. Screws and bolts can loosen up on all of them. Usually when I replace a bolt I use a nut with a nylock insert and a touch of silicone rubber on a screw that loosens up when threaded back in will help prevent it.
  6. Don`t leave home with out them! I normally target bass, but a useful tool for other species that tend to inhabit the same types of cover. I have caught walleye flipping boat docks, steel head flipping knocked down trees in rivers and nothing like the feeling of flipping a jig next to a bridge piling and setting the hook on a 40+ inch muskie. It can be done with spinning or casting tackle, light or heavy tackle, just works out a whole lot better when you use the right tackle for the targeted species. I tend to go with heavier tackle so sometimes I am ok with mistakes. My choice for most is a 7'6" flipping stick with at least 17 pound test line. Tough deal to find but they did make some flipping sticks for spinning reels.
  7. LOL Rick, a lot easier, er and cheaper to prevent the mistakes than try to fix them afterwards?
  8. Stamina tackle has a good selection a US site though, Barlow`s, Jann`s Netcraft. Stamina is probably the best here for Muskie type in-lines. Never really played around with them much, a lot of muskie stuff winds up in close out bins here, and some good name brand in-lines for bass also.
  9. Fisherman, a lot of what you say is true. A big difference in the banking system also, ours were actively pushing credit, even to people that were poor risks for it. Not just on homes but cars and credit cards also. I refinanced my home early in 2003, I was sick, didn`t know what was wrong or how long I could continue working. Didn`t really owe that much more on it but wanted to lower the monthly payment in case I couldn`t continue working. Banker seemed agitated that I wouldn`t cash out equity, no dude my sole reason is to lower the payment. A safety net, it worked, paid the loan off 3 years later even though I wasn`t working. When I see or hear some of the loans people took I am just amazed.
  10. Farming activity and loss of wetlands(water filters). Growing up here in Ohio I was amazed at the difference in water quality after a heavy rain here and up north where there is limited or no farming activity. Year round ground cover and root systems prevents or slows erosion of top soil.

  12. Haven`t been to many towns up there Parry Sound, Sudbury, can`t count Pointe Au Baril not big enough to be a town? Some place around Rice lake and Beaver lake when I was a kid, can`t even remember the names of them. All were nicer than Cleveland! Was in Gravenhurst once also, buddy`s uncle had a gas station dinner there, also nice.

  15. 1. Headhunter cars aren`t selling GM sales are down 50% here since last year< maintaining employment levels would be nice, but to make more cars you can`t sell? It would just deepen the back log and companies are already running out of place to store over production. This isn`t an American or Canadian auto sales problem, it`s world wide. 2. RJ the fact is the butt kisser`s seem to be wearing business suits, they get a CEO job and get their lackeys appointed to the boards, no will question their moves, all flunky`s of the CEO. Their specialty is self promotion, what line of Bull can we tell to justify our own pay increases, the truth is not a factor. They can`t or won`t say we made a mistake, gods don`t. Unions again? Look at the job our government did regulating the banking industry, the auto industry, the insurance industry, you would trust people that fund their election campaigns off of the people contributing millions to their campaigns to look out for you? Part of the overall problem here is union membership is way down, people have been sold a bill of goods by business and the politicians, we will take care of you, nothing could be further from the truth, they are too busy looking out for themselves. As union membership has declined here so has the voice of the people, as an individual citizen you don`t have the voice or funds to compete with the millions from business to get your politicians ear.
  16. Apparently no one would bid enough to get to the reserve, story does sound fishy. Give me a 70 1/2 z-28 over it any day.
  17. If I had to get into a plane to fish I might have became a hunter. Great report though Wayne, airplanes look cool, my favorite is the P-51D, to look at. That lake herring? Is that the same as a Moon Eye? Got something that looked like that from a bait store up there when I bought bait. Didn`t know what it was and told the guy I didn`t want it because I didn`t know if it was legal as bait.
  18. Mike, I fish mostly for bass here. Early April at times there is still ice in sheltered marinas, when the ice is gone sometimes just a day or two before I have fished them, I got pike on slowly cranked mid running crank baits, slow rolling a spinnerbait, and tubes. 3 to 5 feet of water. Years ago when I used live bait more often we also caught them on shiners under a bobber crappie fishing in the very early spring.
  19. Dad got me started on the fishing deal, 4 boys and dad loved to fish, it took for 3 of us to one degree or another and just advanced from there. Tournaments started for me back in the late 70`s, worked with a guy that also loved to fish for bass, dad was a depression kid and fish were food, panfish, walleye. So me and my buddy did the bass deal, open tournaments to keep the schedule free for family. Joined a club in the later 80`s and fish their tournies, opens and some bigger tournaments. Just my form of gambling, I was outside where I loved to be,and involved in "the game" not a spectator. Every day, every tournament was a separate challenge, a do over, find the answer to the problem, catch the biggest fish the fastest, get a limit. With the bass they got a do over too. The bass club was a complete accident for me, just happened to be talking to one of my customers one day and some how fishing got mentioned. I told her I mostly fish for bass and she mentioned her son-in-law did too and we met a short time later. He was in the club, mostly guys he worked with but open to all. No serious issues with the club, a good group of guys, some just got a little crazy with driving distances for a 1 day event, we fished 3 states, 1 days should be kept close to home.
  20. LOL me too and shortly after I posted about not being able to log on early am.
  21. I can tell cause people stopped being nice and are whining at me again smile.gif LOL Rick! My line is watch what you say or I will fall on you.
  22. LOL TJ ROY! Ya made it all the way to 160 by the end of high school and 18 yoa, beer legal got me to 235 in 6 months.
  23. Dang a pike as long as the rod! Maybe I should have used shorter rods! Pike handle cold water pretty well and spawn early. I don`t ice fish but would be looking at deep edges near shallow spawning areas? Deep can be relative term, 6-8 feet of water with 3 or 4 close by? Blade baits like a heddon sonar, silver buddy, jigging rapala that swims in a circle? Live bait set up? my favorite was a worm sinker on the line( for chubs, big minnows) a good quality barrel swivel and a 12 -18 inch leader on the swivel. I varied the weight of the worm sinker to try and keep the bait down at the level I wanted it to be at. A big chub could still bring it up but wouldn`t stay up. Big bait big fish, can`t picture using a 6-8 inch chub or shiner on that rod though. Again not an ice angler.
  24. Post count? No idea what mine is and why would I care? 5 bass is a limit here the only count that matters, and I have been short for too long! Feed the family, buy and stay at OFC advertisers.
  25. LOL Rick, I remember 148, think I was in 7th grade. Seeing that weight again would be a real bad sign for me. Glad you are OK!
