  1. If it is an apartment building there is probably a lot of traffic around the stream, kids might pull a trap or minnow bucket just thinking it is lost? Have you considered seining for them with a net? A 3-4 pound largemouth bass or walleye has no problem taking a 6-8 inch chub.
  2. Is the creek on your property? A minnow bucket floating or sinking left in the creek might be enough, no idea if you need to label it there with your name and address. Creek chubs, at least the ones we get here like to jump out of the water, a screen lid over an aquarium might be needed. They will eat bread crumbs or goldfish food.
  3. I have used a drift sock and a weight in the past on breezy days on Lake Erie. Socks do slow down the drift if that is all you are looking to do. http://www.ebay.com/bhp/window-weights These are old window weights, they work well for dragging the bottom in rocky areas, they are pretty snag free and disturb the rocks which can send crawfish scurrying about and attract smallies.
  4. Art, unlike the shooting, the storms affecting the east coast are not over and done with? At this stage of the game, with the total impact and area of the damage still unknown? Is it proper for him to be on TV making comments? Some would also accuse him of showboating if he did that? The Coast Guard has had planes and helicopters in the air searching for that ship since yesterday, weather conditions were making the search difficult. Should he have been on TV with a eulogy with the facts still uncertain? He would also be claimed to be showboating by some? It's a bit early in the events for a mission accomplished speech and photo session?
  5. Did you miss your daily dose of Fox? http://www.foxnews.com/weather/2015/10/03/more-rain-flooding-forecast-along-soggy-east-coast/ " President Obama declared a state of emergency in South Carolina and ordered federal aid to help state and local efforts. " They are looking for the ship and or survivors? Does the president know they are dead?
  6. LOL, yes that happens!
  7. Sandy Hook hasn't been the only issue, we have some pretty deep political, racial, and religious divides in our country, and some seem to use those to drive fear. Our President maybe the best thing that ever happened to the gun industry here? https://www.quora.com/How-has-the-quantity-of-annual-gun-sales-changed-since-President-Obama-took-office You can go on a lot of websites and see things like Obama is going to take our guns, restrict ammo sales, restrict magazine sizes, you didn't hear that here with other Presidents. There is still a sizable segment of our population that believes he is a Kenyan or Muslim. He has faced resistance since day one in office by a large segment of our population because of it. Political fear mongering to maintain or regain control? We are a nation founded on revolution? and some are still at war?
  8. http://www.infowars.com/82-shot-15-dead-in-city-with-the-strictest-gun-laws-in-the-united-states/ The article has it's points, but it is not the sole cause of the problem. Some criminals are not driven by drug money, just the idea that taking other people's money and possessions with out having to work is less constrictive on their lifestyles? Pandora's box has been opened here for centuries, how is it possible to close it?
  9. If you want to see scary statistics? Keep in mind that this is just from one major metropolitan area here. http://heyjackass.com/ For some reason the name of the site seems appropriate?
  10. " Hazard: The trigger switch on the auger could fail and the unit not turn off, posing an injury hazard. " It is on there, right under recall summary.
  11. http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2015/Rapala-Recalls-StrikeMaster-Ice-Augers/ I saw this and figured maybe it might affect someone that ice fishes.
  12. Sir, I don't think it is smugness or superiority at all, and I am certainly not offended. For some reason there seems to be a disconnect with a reasonable, rational, behavior in society here in a lot of places, and on a lot of issues! As an American? I wonder at times how well adjusted some of my fellow citizens are to all the freedoms they have? Some certainly find enough to complain about or be angry at everything. I don't have answers, only questions, there seems to be no end to the violence.
  13. It's crazier here in the states than you may think! A lot of them people getting shot have no healthcare! Or jobs, or much of anything else except a gun. http://www.cleveland19.com/story/30166830/idd-3rd-child-gunned-down-in-one-month-in-cleveland Follow the Cleveland news for a month, it's enough to make you sick. It seems to be the same all over down here.
  14. The Amish saw mills in my area used to have mountains of hardwood sawdust at their facilities. Most had some sort of belted conveyor to take it out of the building, they had piles of it higher than the buildings. They had trouble giving it away! All at once that changed, suddenly they had huge dumpsters at the end of the conveyors that the sawdust went into, pellet makers? Some did the same with slab wood, it was put in huge dumpsters and was taken away to be ground into mulch. Some of those places seemed to have an acre of ground or more filled with mountains of slabwood. LOL, the good old days, I used to be able to fill my tandem axle trailer that held a cord and a quarter of wood with short cut slab wood for 20-25 bucks.
  15. Nice job! The two soft plastics look good to me.
  16. LOL Sinker, back in the day they were pushing a lot of ideas around! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shimano-Bantam-Brush-Buster-10-Plus-Flipping-Reel-With-Box-Tool-Nice-/331629754943?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
  17. Unless they have changed their operation? You don't hold the flipping switch down once it is set into flipping mode, you hold down the thumbar, once you release it the reel spool engages.
  18. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Quantum-Accurist-PT-Baitcast-Reel-AC100HPTA&i=711963 This is a later model reel and I assume they are still available. You can see the switch to activate the flipping feature better. I have never owned a Quantum reel.
  19. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Abu-Garcia-Ambassadeur-Ultra-Mag-xl-Plus-NIB-/151829163404?hash=item2359b92d8c No Capt, you put the switch in the on mode and the thumbar still releases the line, but as soon as you lease the thumbar the spool is engaged. If you shut off the flipping switch the reel operates like a normal baitcaster. The 4th picture gives you the best look, those reels are for the late 70's-early 80's.
  20. I believe all the reels I have with a flipping switch are older Abu reels and I am not sure on other brands or newer reels. There is a button for the off - on position for the flipping feature, with it on? when you let go of the line release button? it engages the spool without turning the reel handle. With it of it acts like a normal casting reel, cast and then turn the handle to engage the spool. I trolled ( long line ) for years and never used a flipping reel, the thumbar style reels made things so much easier! Most of my trolling, for everything, was done in shallower water though, 30 feet or less. If you are using downriggers,, dipsys? I can see where a line counter would help, especially for walleye - trout - salmon suspended over deep water.
  21. I had about a cord and a half left from last year and had 4 cords delivered back in August. I burn slab wood mostly, it's all hardwood, and the price is a lot better than split. My days of getting wood on my own ended years ago.
  22. I think the Abu Eon was one of Abu's short lived reels, they seem to of had a number of them after the 1970's. http://www.fishingwithpiotr.com/fishing-maps/pigeon-lake/ That is the limit of my knowledge of the lake, it doesn't appear to be a deep lake, is a line counter really needed? If price is a concern? http://www.basspro.com/Shimano-Citica-I-Series-LowProfile-Baitcast-Reel/product/2229765/ That should do fine for walleye trolling, a 200 series, and you get a lefty-righty choice.
  23. Tom, at the time I think his boat was only a year or two old, a glass bass boat. Those heavier boats may cause more issues? My brother's was a 19 foot Bayliner Capri, and unlike most people around here that had them? He got his with a v-8 inboard, all the others I saw were 4 or 6 cylinder. My buddy's was a couple of year old procraft with a 150, both had single axle trailers, and both had welds break near the rear of the trailer.
  24. LOL, nice catch! I think I still have a couple of rods like that in the garage.
