  1. Geez, I averaged only 16/20, took it a few times, best was 20/20. It was fun though.
  2. Congrats !?? Lew, just make sure he remembers that you don't have to take the stress of the job, if you don't like it you'll leave. I've got a few friends in the same situation as you and they enjoy themselves. Sometimes it's harder for the employer to find a good replacement when they have someone with a good work attitude and the skills than to put up with minor mistakes that may happen from time to time. Take care out there especially at this time of year. (then again who do I think I am when I'm speaking to a person who has seen it all before!) Stan
  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEW!!! Best wishes to you and any other OFNer who may have this day as their birthday!
  4. The only reason I was looking for the coordinates was to meet up on the water, since my friend had decided to launch at the public launch in Picton. I did manage to meet Fishnsled and Headhunter when I swung by at about 2:30pm. I wish I could have gotten there earlier to say hello to the bunch. We got on the water at about 8:30 am and fished until 2 pm, two stolen minnows on my buddy's drop shot rig, one light bump on my set up (plastic, and most likely a perch). My 7 year old son fell asleep on the boat waiting for some action that never happened. Disappointing, 2 years in a row. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to convince anyone (and probably myself) to try again next year. Too long of a drive, too inexperienced on the BOQ, and only able to make it on Sundays. I hope Glen did catch a walleye, especially after such a long drive. HF
  5. Obviously another awesome outing. Since I got skunked today on BOQ, those pics are going to keep me awake thinking, I should have gone chrome hunting. Thanks Mike for the post.
  6. Hey Everyone, I was hoping to see if anyone had Merland Parks' GPS co-ordinates. I'll be going up there pretty much blind in a friend's boat but would like to hook up with some fellow OFNers at Merlands. Thanks, Stan
  7. WTG Xrap, doesn't it feel good to get that first one out of the way?! I broke my ice last sunday with my first two of the season as well, unfortunately, I didn't have my camera. Again, nice chrome.
  8. Thanks Sam for the update. I'll be heading up there early Sunday morning with a couple of buddies as well. I hoping to leave Markham around 4:30am. I forgot to ask, but will they let us launch from Merlands if we don't stay there or do we have to lauch at the public launch in Picton? By the way, do you carry Berkley Gulp Alive minnows? If you're heading to Merlands on Sunday could you bring a bucket and I'll buy a tub of Gulp Alive from you. Just let me know how much it is. Stan
  9. My condolences to the families as well. It will be a tough time for them especially at this time of year.
  10. Yeah, those eggs looks real awesome, good work Jason.
  11. Hey Roy, I'll be trying to make the trip up Sunday morning. Hopefully with a couple of other (non-OFNrs) with a boat. If not I'll make the trip myself and hope someone will have a spot on their boat still open. Thanks, Stan (HearingFish)
  12. Mike, you'd better go fishing! Cabin fever is setting in!! GO!!
  13. WTG on your first deer! Now we have to wait for the pics.
  14. Got a question. Do the Ams have to have a boat too? Since it states that all boats must have at least 1 M liability insurance and that otherwise would not be allowed in the tourney. I was under the impression the Ams fish with the Pros (most likely on the Pro's boat). Sorry, if the question was a dumb @ss question, I've never looked at any tourneys before. It's peaking my interest now though. Stan
  15. Cliff, you and Carole have gone out about 4 times (if not more) than I have this year (including ice fishing). I guess on the whole, bass has been down a bit for me, however Rainbow trout and walleye have both been up. My search for laker and whitefish were all empty handed this past hard water season (too short). I didn't get out for any crappie fishing. Clarification: Rainbow trout were not caught in the kawarthas. The few bass I caught in Chemong were smaller than the average I normally catch. I still have yet to land my first legal sized 'ski (mind you I haven't had much opportunity to target them). Everywhere I go shore fishing, the water is way lower than normal making some places all the more difficult. Hopefully, an early ice fishing season will help set things straight again. Bring on the ice! (after Nov 15). Stan.
  16. Sorry, the following may seem gross to some but every culture has it's "gross" things. I'm just trying to provide a perspective. Being of Asian decent, I have to admit that the Chinese way of steaming a descaled and gutted fish has much less waste to it than other preparation methods. Cut off the fins, de-scale, cut open the stomach compartment and yank out the guts and gills. Rub over table salt to remove some of the protective slime and rinse off. Place onto a heat safe shallow plate and place on a rack over and in a pot of boiling water, cover with lid and let it cook for about 20 mins. Some like to add ginger to the plate and water to reduce the "fishy" smell. In a separate sauce pan, heat up veg oil, toss in some cut strips of green onion, and ginger (searing lightly). Take the fish out of the pot when the "fish" eye has cooked out of the eye socket (indication of when it's cooked through) and place onto serving plate, pour the very hot oil, onion, and ginger over the fish's entire body, you may hear sizzling as the oil seals the fish's cooked skin, pour a little bit of soya sauce on top and serve the fish hot to your guests. Usually, ends up only with meatless fish bones. And yes, sometimes the head is picked clean too. Some fish taste better than others prepared this way. Sorry, if I've spoiled your appetite or have given away an "Ancient Chinese Secret". Stan
  17. Welcome D.
  18. A young Tiger muskie based on the markings. all the pike I've seen don't have the verticle bars that are so clear in the vid. poor brown trout, I don't think that fish was going to fit entirely in that muskie.
  19. Very nice chromies.
  20. I would say it looks like a silver chub. Macrhybopsis storeriana. http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=2792 Doesn't look like the mooneye I caught before, eye is too small. Scales are too small too.
  21. A Sunday vote here, as I work Saturdays. I'd make the trip if someone has room on their boat, of course I'll share the expenses too.
  22. Nice steel there. How many ppl were there?
  23. Good luck Lew and Wayne, hope to see a 50"+ on your report!
  24. Nice Fishing & Hunting report. Definitely nice to see that it was a great family outing.
