  1. I'd have to agree with Spiel, the single barbel was clearly visible in the early portion of the video. Burbot or "ling" as some call it, it's one species on my list of fish to catch too. Congrats to Monique on that huge perch.
  2. Dang, Fishnsled beat me to it!
  3. Happy Belated B-Day Roy!
  4. BTW anyone know about the regs to fishing BC or the prairie provinces? And how I may be able to obtain a fishing license for those provinces?
  5. Thanks Bill for the offer, however the last thing I need on my mind is worrying about having it lost or damaged. I'll just stick with my laptop and MS Streets and trips. Marking another one up for the ferry ride, thanks. Thanks Keram, I did a shorter edmonton via jasper-banff to calgary trip 5 years ago. Banff to Jasper was a beautiful drive I did 5 years ago with my wife and then 3 year son too. If time permits, I'll have it in the plans as well. Missed the Dino park last time, and will have to do it this time around.
  6. I'm going to use my MS streets and Maps with my laptop, thus I can access the web at some of the places we stay at to make sure all is okay at work too and possibly post along the way. My wife and I have been to the West Edmonton Mall, big mall but with too many repetitive stores. My wife went through the entire mall in 3/4 of a day while I was booked in for a 3 day conference. I don't think we'll stop at the mall this time but thanks for the idea. I can hook up my laptop and play DVD movies for them. That and I think I'll borrow my relative's portable camping potty.
  7. Thanks RS, I'll have to look into the campsites, I've also seen somewhere that staying in some parks are possibly free. Thanks Drew, I'll give it serious consideration as I have never had such an opportunity, my parents were always so by the book that I've grown accustom to academic scheduling as well, but since they're only in Gr 3 and SK I think I might just take more time. Mike, you're putting a dagger into my hopes of providing a truly Canadian trip idea. I'll have to check on the passport soon then. Thanks everyone for their kind input so far. Stan
  8. Okay SP, now you've got me a bit worried. I can only extend the trip to Sept 1st, as the 2nd is the first day of school for the kids. I guess I'd better plan on leaving on Saturday the 16th to get as much time as possible. MM, how long did your trip take?
  9. Thanks Mike, That sounded like a blast. The only thing that may make me consider a state side trip is if my passport (which I haven't used in quite some time) is still valid, but first I have to dig it up and check it. lol. The new border crossing rules are a deterrent for me, as I don't like long line ups. I've been leaning more on the Canadian side of things as my wife is already has a pro-USA perception (thinks it's boring here) and would like to show her that Canada has many good things too. Thanks again, Stan
  10. Thanks Dave, I have been pondering the ferry trip as well, but not sure if the timing of the trip would work out in favor of the schedule. I'll revisit the idea again.
  11. I only vaguely remember a trip with my parents when I a about 8 and the destination was Calgary. I think I slept most of the trip, but I do recall seeing a traffic jam on the highway in the prairies due to a cow dead on the side of the trans-canada highway. Those were some great suggestions, I'll have to look it up and consider adding them in to the plans. Thanks. Thanks John, it was kind of what you mentioned with the lower traffic that has me thinking it might just work out fine. I drive a Chev Venture that gets decent highway mileage so I'm not overly worried. Stan
  12. Hey all, I've booked a flight to Calgary and an RV to go around in for July 2-14. Okay, now that the trip is confirmed for this year I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with any one day / half day saltwater charters? (in BC). Disregard the original post from July 23: Thanks everyone for the input, it looks like we'll put the trip on hold for a year or two so we can plan out a more not-so-rushed trip. Initial post: I haven't taken a vacation in a few years now and have decided this year I'll take two weeks off (mid Aug to end of aug) and take the family on a grand road trip from Toronto to Vancouver (possibly Victoria too) via our minivan. I'd like to stay on the Canadian side of things to give the kids an idea of Canada (but may consider using the US route on the way back). I would like to see if there are any suggestions on which places are definite "don't miss" spots along the way there and back. Although I would love to meet up with OFNers on the way, I'm not sure how much my wife will put up with me if I get side tracked too much . I'll be bringing at least one fishing rod for sure. And Yes, some have called be nuts for going when the gas prices are this high, but I figure, next year it'll be higher, so best do it now. So far this is what I have planned (it's in the early stages and not much but plans can always change). Alberta: Dino graveyard BC: Banff, Whistler (possibly), Vancouver, Victoria. Thanks for any input, Stan
  13. Welcome to the board Jacques.
  14. Cliff, Carole, and Sidney, I'm glad you all had a fun time out there. It was really good to see Sidney getting the biggest perch award. We'll have to do it again sometime Hopefully, without me having to deal with baiting 4+ kids lines all day. Don't know about your trout, my mine tasted oh so good with only a little sea salt rubbed on butterflied trout and broiled at 450 F for 20mins. Fresh fish is hard to beat! Stan
  15. That's how I land the walleye from rice lake, no net required!
  16. CCMT said it. Just keep in mind that there are commercial fisheries around that allow for fish to be sold including some we deem as sport fish. E.g. Largemouth bass (from the states' farms), northern pike (from ontario from Legal commercial fishing), crappie, sunfish, etc. Actually, I had questioned one place (an asian market) and the OMNR dispatched a CO over there to check it out and the CO phoned me back saying they had all the necessary permits, licenses and papers proving where they were from and clarified to me that there are sportfish that are also commercially taken for the marketplace. The walleye usually from lake Erie as I have been told.
  17. Super pic of that smallie Greg. And since I know how big you are, that is one awesome fish! I'm not surprised by the size of your fish anymore, since only the big ones seem to end up on your line.
  18. Truly beautiful fish that you had in those pics.
  19. For the next time that might happen, take an extra copy of the regs or just the section it applies to it and highlight/circle the species, limit, and other relevant info. Also, wouldn't hurt to have the area Tony mentioned about interfering highlighted. Hand it to the guy and see if he knows how to read or ask him to show you his CO ID. Try not to get too riled up, I hope you and your mom had some tasty sunfish. (Generally, I would prefer not to eat the fish out of Rice Lake, I find them muddy tasting.)
  20. I have heard of white/silver bass being caught at the tributary mouths around TO but have not tried to catch one yet. I believe the Urban fishing guide also mentions them being able to be caught in waters around GTA.
  21. Nice Bass Scott. Good to see someone on team 7 is fishing. (I'm kinda experiencing DAD)
  22. I'm interested too but I don't think it will happen for me this year, unless I'm looking for a divorce Not a good fishing year for me .
  23. Well, wetting a line and catching a sunfish sure beats me and my sitting in the office thinking about fishing! Nice sized pumpkinseed attached to that mepps spinner. Sorry, I couldn't have helped with any info but good luck tomorrow Tom.
  24. Nice fish Marc! I'm glad you didn't do that when we met up to fish for walleye! Thanks Roy for the afternoon laugh.
  25. Welcome to the board Becky. I'll second that!
