  2. beauty fish. Some hugh cats in there, not near as many as Dunnville but a way better chance of getting one over 25#. we got 4 one night between 25-28#(on the normarks) but just couldnt crack the 30.
  3. I was invited to fish a tourney this weekend with some friends of mine Al and Deanna from Spoonmaster. It was a beautiful day on the water and although the bite was a little slow we managed to put together a nice box. We ended up going 6/6 with one brown and 5 kings. We finished just outside the money but a couple pounds of course : 5 fish came off the swr and 1 off the 10 colour core. All on spoons. Biggest went 18lbs Fishing on Lake O is getting HOT if your interested in getting out check us out... www.wepoundemfishing.com tightlines Ryan Hare Al with his first of the year Deanna with her first of the year Dan with a nice brown Me with my first of the year off the 10 colour.. sore arms!! our box for the tourney
  4. catching spring dropbacks isnt an art, they are hungry! The most important part is finding water that is a) fishable and holding fish. Runs tend to go in and out of certain rivers faster then others. A good starting point is finding a run into a deeper pool. Dropbacks will hold in deeper pools, feed and wait for the right time to head out. when you work the pool start on the inside (closest to you) and work your drifts toward the other side of the river. This allows you to cover the pool instead of just randomly casting away. Try whole dewy's hooked in the middle, you cant go wrong. tightlines Ryan
  5. Its a good cover for sitting in your driveway. I pulled my boat with one last year and the cam at the back broke and did a considerable amount of damage to my brand new motor. Needless to say I was pissed and took it back. The material is good quality, but be careful pulling with it.
  6. AWESOME FISH!!! congrats on the catch. Im not a Chronzey fan but this comment proves that you are infact "out of touch" with this sport!!!
  7. Niagara yesterday was around 6" vis. I didnt even bother launching the boat I just drove back home
  8. channel cat males I believe get a bluish tinge durning spawing season, usually only the really BIG ones and it does become much more noticeable as the water warms up.
  9. Nice meeting you too, cats are fun but they just arn't steel!!! Thanks for keeping us on the river for a bit longer too!
  10. Nice meeting you Steve, and thanks for the meat! Man did you put a hurting on them out there!!!! If your looking to have a good time catching cats give steve a call http://www.anglersway.net/
  11. We got a lot of snow but had so many melt off's I dont think it hindered the population any. I gotta agree nothing tastier then turkey!
  12. Must just be that area, Lots of birds over this way. My brother guides full time during the turkey season and never hunts south of 89. Birds over here are still grouped up but the Toms have been strutting for about a month.
  13. No worries thats what these boards are all about LEARNING cut bait is strips or chunks of dead bait fish.
  14. I spent the weekend down in Niagara hoping to get back into some good steelhead. Well the weather had other plans. Rain and wind made a mess of the river and it filled with ice Saturday. We vegged in the hotel and planned on playing it safe and going cat'in the next day in the Grand river. My friend Paul from Cast Adventures had the day off guiding the Niagara with the crappy conditions so we twisted his rubber arm and took him out for the day of fishing where he just got to fish!. What a blast we had! Its been a couple years since I have fished for catfish but what a great time. We landed around 25-30 and lost many more. Eventually we ran out of cut bait. Dan was the cat whisperer for the day and landed most of the big ones. Here's a few pics of the cats. Cat man Dan me with one of my only picture worthy fish Paul with a good one! Paul hamming it up
  15. Full on saturday after the big wind storm pushed a bunch of ice over the boom Sunday was fishable hardly any ice.
  16. planers come in 2 different forms. Big boards and In-lines. Big boards are ran off a mast on your boat. In-line boards are just that. Small boards that are ran in-line on your rods. The idea of planer boards is to get your lure out and away from your boat and into the strike zone. For flatlining, in-lines could be a very effective addition to your spread. Are they worth having YES! Divers are a bit different. They allow you to fish a desired depth with out needing riggers. Braid or wire line is usually the best choice for divers as your looking for little stretch in the line to get the full potential out of the diver. Solid rod holders like a salty is neccessary for this as they can create a good amount of pull. Are divers worth running YES!!
  17. Ironicly I had a similar issue this weekend. I was using a Owner hooks and every time I would snag they would bend with the strength of the braid. I'm used to fishing Steelies with light set ups so I never really have had an issue with this. I found the integrity of the hooks was totally spent when they had been bent. I lost so many fish from bent hooks this weekend, or just big fish strightening them. Eventually I loosened the drag way off to keep the hook from strightening. Felt weird but it worked. My suggestion would be to get hooks that fit the scenario, if your using braid wire hooks might not be a good idea.
  18. sry Bill its still early Im a wee bit slow
  19. Come on guys!!! The fish are there, its just a timing thing. Not a river to expect to put up any big numbers thats for sure
  20. Nice meeting you, you should have a blast with it when are you coming out???
  21. Thanks everyone Darcy we picked up the fish on bags
  22. great report Ben, I miss the lakers already
  23. I headed back down to the Niagara this weekend for some more steelie action. Sat, the weather was great, sun in the sky, little wind and the water looked great. When we arrived at the launch there was a steelhead derby being put on by the Niagara Steelheaders. I thought what the heck and joined us up. The derby was for the Canadian side only so we ended up staying in the same drift all day well almost everyone else ran down river. It wasn't long before we got into some scrappy fish, and man they where scrappy this weekend! Lots of drag screaming! Dan hooked the first fish, a dark male that put up a decent fight. Then a hefty hen that went around 12lbs, just a beauty fish. I kept hooking them but straightening the hooks! I was getting pretty ticked off, no more owner hooks for me. Fiinally I got into some good fish and managed to get them into the boat. It was a great day on the water and we manged to boat some nice fish and lost way too many. We did better then most guys on numbers but fell short by an inch and a half when it came to biggest fish. A 32" won around $450 and second was 31" scoring around $300 It was a great derby, put on by JWL. Thanks for letting us in:) Fun for everyone! Check out the next one tightlines Ryan Hare here are some pics of the day same fish different view
  24. A couple good friends work there, they have not mentioned that yet. They have made fridays optional and they are laying off anyone who is having attendence probelms.
  25. The good ol' Notty. Definatly a tough river to fish in the spring unless you have put in some hours. The river is loaded with fish, but finding them is the tough part. Right now the water is high but the clairity isnt all that bad so to speak for the Notty. Bright colours and slightly larger roe bags work well in the spring. Air injected whole dew worms are deadly, they find em even in the murkey water. Pink worms also work well. The river is a tough read, it looks deep but generally isnt. There are many hidden pockets where logs and large rocks on the bottom wash away the sand in the current. When you find these type of places you find fish. Or as also suggest look for visual variations in structure and fish there. Almost forgot, spinners and spoons can be deadly casting from shore.
