LOL, I was thinking that same thing Rico! Decent fish though! Wasn't there almost an identical post just last week?

Cougar note.... make sure that your using at least an 8" worm!!

Pretty much all of the portable fish finders on the market have everything that your looking for. I have had a portable eagle fish finder for years now, and it has worked great. I would recommend Eagle for just a standard fish finder. If you want to get something a little on the higher end, I just picked up a Lowrance 522 iGPS unit. These are also fantastic! Has the fishfinder as well as a GPS system in it. I am sure they have a portable GPS/sonar unit as well. Hope this helps!

ahh, good idea! I will have to give that a try.

Great report! You guys got into some nice fish. Isnt that first fish picture a rainbow though? looks like it in the picture.

I will keep that in mind! Thanks! Dragging tubes and such might not be a bad idea either. Caught a few nice smallies in the deeper water last year, then hit a few pike in the same spots. I really want at least a 10lb pike. Right now, my biggest bass (8lbs) is about 3 lbs heavier than my biggest pike! haha hopefully next weekend will change that!

This brings to mind the age-old question......... "Why DID the chicken cross the road?"

Thanks for the tips everyone. I appreciate the help! I have been to this lake twice before, and both times have been totally different for pike. Mind you, we target bass primarily, but we both want to get a nice sized pike! The first time I went to the lake, all the pike were shallow, got them on topwater and spinnerbaits. The second time (last august), we only caught 1 pike the whole day and that was on the way back to the launch trolling the 30 ft hole. So, I guess I will take everyone's advice at one point or another. I am going to start off shallow, then work my way deep if that is not producing. We will most likely target bass in the morning and evening, and pike during mid day, so I am assuming that we are going to work to deeper weedegdes, andthen head out to the 30ft range trolling. Thanks again for all the help!

Hey everyone, My buddy and I are going on a camping trip next weekend to a lake that is (for the most part) pretty shallow. There is a small section in the lake that dips to 30ish feet. The rest of the lake is pretty shallow (1-12 feet). Seeing as the weather looks to be climbing and staying high until next week, will this push the pike deeper, or will they stay in the shallower bays full of weeds? I am a bass fisherman, but would love to get a 15 lb+ pike. I know they typically have the same habits as bass, but just wanted to throw this question out to those of you who target Pike a lot. As for equipment, I have pretty much everything from ultra-light to heavy action. Any tips/techniques would be very helpful! Thanks very much!!

God bless the GO train! I live in Pickering, but there is now way I could drive in. Not moving on a highway drives me nuts!!!!! I am in the same boat as Lew. I have been doing NOTHING all day at work, but cant leave until 3:45. I am just staring at the clock.... 3:33 and counting!!!

If your going out of Gores Landing, head straigh across the lake to the Otonabee River, and throw topwaters early in the morning. Use your Senko's as a follow-up bait if they miss the topwater. Also, there is a large marina with tons of docks at Gores Landing, get out your flippin stick, and flip the docks in that marina. I got a NICE limit out of there on a bright/hot/sunny day! Hope that helps.

Am I the only one that uses mono on every reel? Don't see any need to spend huge $$ on braided line. Judging by my avatar picture, mono seems to be doing the job! I would much rather spend the money on lures (the most important thing).

If you think its going to be hot today....wait until Sunday. Supposed to be 35 PLUS the humidex! Yikes!

I would go with the edge. Cable steer is the way to go, because if something ever happened to the steering with one that was electronic, it would cost a bundle to replace. Could even have to replace the whole motor! Foot pedals are fantastic once you get the hang of them. I would never go with a motor without one.

CCMT... Ha ha ha If you do get that little gadget let me know because I want to watch you use that!! LOL

Nice fish! If your ever looking for someone to go out with in Pickering, PM me and I will give you my number!

Can't say I have heard of the lake, but it sounds like a jewel!

medium heavy rods will be stiff. i am assuming a lot stiffer than your used to using. heavy action are like broomsticks!! medium heavy are stiff for the most part. Medium-Heavy refers to the power of the rod. Medium-Heavy with a fast action, would refer to the "fast/soft" tip that you might be looking for. What are do you plan on using the rod for? If its for just general fishing, I would recommend going with a medium instead. Medium-Heavy & Heavy rods are more directed for flippin/pitching. Hope this helps.

My buddy has one on his boat. Seems to work pretty well.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA And they are the ones giving out tickets! I think they should each get a ticket for being stupid!!! -
THanks for the info FishFinder. My boat is up at my cottage on Clear Lake (Stoney Lake). So I dont have access to a boat during the week, thats why I wanted to know where some decent spots are to get into nice fish like CCMT and Bly have been! I will definitely try to get out to a rivermouth around me. Just have to find the time to do so! Thanks again!

hahahaha I would say that it weighs over a pound, but less than 10.

Perfect, thats great. Thanks very much. Being a competitive fisherman myself, I would never ask for your exact location. That guide is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again.
