  1. The July edition of Ontario out of doors has an article on Ontario made lures and Mike's Handlebarz were one of them. Now about that new for 2014 topwater... Congratulations.
  2. It's a habit I got into when I used to do some whitewater canoeing and solo canoe tripping. I also grew up on, and in the water and back BK (before Kids) I used to do a lot of triathlons. I have a healthy respect for water and part of it is setting an example for my young kids but I also fish with a few people who don't know how to swim. With the inflatables it's easy now. I put it on and don't even think about it until I get in the car to go home.
  3. Be safe and watch out for the other guy. Fish on!
  4. That's the idea. If I didn't use this one it would be hard to justify the next one.
  5. A good day fishing but a frustrating one as well. Lots of action but a few musky follows that ended in no hook-ups and a group of gar that we couldn't get to bite left more questions and a lot of what ifs. First fish of the day was a smallmouth out of 12 fow on a double 10. Since we've established that the suspending husky jerk works we tried just about everything else in the box. White x-rap Perch crankbait Live target herring
  6. Hwy 400 north through Barrie is a parking lot. If this surprises you, you might be part of the problem.

  7. A ticket/ citation can be issued solely based on someone from the public making a compliant without the police witnessing the infraction? I'm gonna be busy recording plate numbers on the highway this weekend.
  8. I can still see my 6-7 year old brother running up our Aunt/Uncle's farm driveway being chased by one of their ducks. As a grown man he now talks a big game but I know the truth.
  9. Lots of talk about Leafs trying to get Florida's 1st round pick. Talk, talk, talk.
  10. I'd suggest a top water bait or floating crankbait. That way if you are pulling out backlashes, and there will be back lashes, you don't have to worry about the bait getting snagged. The lures don't have to be heavy but I'd stay away from light ones. Have patients, it takes some practice but most of us monkeys have figured it out and so will you. Some suggest pulling out enough line for a long cast and then putting some electrical tape on the spool so as to prevent your backlashes from going too deep. Nobody told me about this when I was learning but many have used it with lots of success. Don't try to cast far or hard until you've worked on your thumb control and the reels cast controls.
  11. I used to use a perch coloured river runt as a kid. Don't know what became of it.
  12. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/new-vision-for-ontario-s-experimental-lakes-area-unveiled-1.2685764?cmp=rss New vision for Ontario's Experimental Lakes Area unveiled Scientists have picked 13 new research priorities for Ontario's internationally renowned Experimental Lakes Area research facility, focusing particularly on environmental issues now affecting that province. The federal government turned control of the experimental lakes area over to the Ontario government and the International Institute for Sustainable Development on April 1 after threatening to shut down the outdoor laboratories in 2013. Institute members met last week at the University of Waterloo to choose 13 future research projects. Future research will look to solve the problem of algal blooms, better prepare for oil spills and understand how chromium from the Ring of Fire development in northern Ontario will cycle through the environment. Scientists to study anti-microbial clothingScientists will also start a new experiment examining metal particles in anti-microbial fabrics like socks and dishtowels, said University of Waterloo biologist Rebecca Rooney, who sits on the science advisory committee for the Experimental Lakes Area. (Experimental Lakes Area/Canadian Press) "One of the major reasons for that is little silver nanoparticles embedded into the fibres. Those nanoparticles can wash out when you do your laundry and ultimately they end up collecting in our lakes," she said. Silver nanoparticle use spurs U.S. consumer database Rooney says while scientists understand how the silver nanoparticles kill microbes in consumer fabrics, they don't yet know what effect they have in lakes and ecosystems. "This is important research on an emerging contaminant that's just underway now." The 58 experimental lakes and their watersheds are a unique outdoor laboratory located in Kenora, Ont. They were originally run by Fisheries and Oceans Canada until the government threatened to shut down the experimental lakes due to budget cutbacks in 2012.
  13. Nice fish Cliff. Late spring and a season starting a week earlier then most of us are used to means lots of learning.
  14. The trap nets usually have large, bright orange foam floats with orange flags on top at the "ends" of the net and the wings.
  15. Maybe I could borrow that this fall.
  16. It never really ends: 2014 season schedule and the new Rogers slanted Canadian NHL coverage. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/maple-leafs-host-canadiens-to-open-2014-15-nhl-season-1.2683947 http://www.sportsnet.ca/rogers-unveils-2014-15-national-nhl-broadcast-schedule/
  17. As long as they haven't watched any ranger games the last 2 years.
  18. It's summer time and the bass are bitting. If the camera can be setup for a forced flash it would make a big difference for shadows on bright days... the flash however doesn't do anything to fix a digit in front of the lens.
  19. Great day, great event for sure. If she hadn't been taught to count maybe she wouldn't out fish poppy so much.
  20. I'm sure you'd have lots of volunteers to help you with those unruly grouse.
  21. Well, after having to take a week off fishing thanks to some domestic Montezuma's revenge my brother and I were back at it this week. We were all over the pike again with the suspending husky jerks getting most of the attention, although I did get a couple on x-raps. The biggest difference was that my brother didn't get any hits on top-waters. He usually has a couple of swipes at least from the pike on top but nothing this time. No big ones but lots of action to keep us busy. Two musky follows but no contact. We each lost a hard fighting fish while trolling. Edit to add: My brother saw a gar as well but couldn't generate a strike. On the drive home the topic of a fins and feathers fall trip north came up... as spring ends, we're already thinking of fall.
  22. Brad Richards bought out by Rangers. Remember all the hype around him signing a few years ago when he was a free agent? Brian Burke was ripped because he couldn't, or wouldn't, sign him.
  23. Imagine if fish were like soccer players?
