  1. http://www.oodmag.com/news/tularemia-case-likely-from-wild-game-contact-health-officials/ Sudbury health officials say a confirmed case of tularemia, contracted by an “adult resident” of the area, is believed to have come through contact with wild game. It’s the first case of tularemia in the Sudbury & District Health Unit’s service area since 2003. According to the health unit, tularemia is a bacteria-borne disease that occurs naturally in Ontario wildlife populations, especially in rabbits, hares, voles, muskrats, beavers, and squirrels, and in ticks and small domestic animals. Humans can become infected through several routes, including bites to the skin or licks of an infected animal, handling or cleaning the carcass of an infected animal (especially the skin or meat), eating inadequately cooked wild game, and bites from an infected tick or deer fly. Hunters are at higher risk of exposure because of the handling of wild game carcasses. Tularemia is considered rare in Canada, with just 289 reported cases and 12 deaths between 1940 and 1981. There are approximately 200 cases reported annually in the U.S. The transmission of tularemia from person to person has not been reported. Symptoms of tularemia depend on how a person was infected and range from mild to life-threatening. They can include sudden onset of fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, joint pain, vomiting, dry cough and difficulty breathing. Other symptoms include skin ulcers, swollen lymph glands, inflamed eyes, sore throat, and diarrhea. Health officials say the elderly, people with respiratory illness, or immune-compromised individuals are most at risk of developing severe illness with tularemia. Anyone who is experiencing these symptoms after an exposure to wild game or ticks should contact their health care provider as soon as possible. Confirmed cases are treated with antibiotics. - See more at: http://www.oodmag.com/news/tularemia-case-likely-from-wild-game-contact-health-officials/#sthash.erBhDE4n.dpuf
  2. Bigger than that? The censors would not let me exclaim my surprise.
  3. Just imagine the length of the honey-do list... In November 2012, Salvador Alvarenga went fishing off the coast of Mexico. Two days later, a storm hit and he made a desperate SOS. It was the last anyone heard from him – for 438 days. This is his story http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/nov/07/fisherman-lost-at-sea-436-days-book-extract
  4. You can adjust your settings to correct for it.
  5. Note the dates on the letters. A letter was sent on July 12th, A response written on the 18th and was received on the 21st. From Florida to an Canadian island fish camp in 1947. No paved highways, no regular air flights. I'm not sure if you could do that short a turn around today.
  6. Great stuff. I love the French River. Was that your daughter eating the shore lunch?
  7. Not sure what to think. http://fishingtackleretailer.com/bass-pro-shops-to-buy-cabelas/ Bass Pro Shops to Buy Cabelas? 8. That'll fill the freezer.
  9. It's bleepin' TOOOONA!!!

  10. With that much traffic I'm surprised there isn't a Tims on the corner.
  11. Oil cap not on properly
  12. Any number of things. Tighten the gas cap Clean the threads on the gas cap Recent fill-up of not-so-good gas? Near empty gas tank with condensation in it due to cool/cold temps. etc, etc etc
  13. CZ Mallard in 20 gauge. Second season using it.
  14. Busy times lately but I made it out Friday for a hunt. Saw more and flushed more driving than I did walking but did manage 2 birds. My brother went out earlier in the week before the storm and got his limit for the first time in at least 15 years he figures. Numbers seem to be up this year.
  15. It will be even worse next week. Drivers and pedestrians both need to be careful. Pedestrians pay for their mistakes, and other's, with their lives.
  16. The higher ups at rogers stepped in it last off season when they bungled at least 2 other attempts to replace Beaston (Whitesox and Orioles). That, and AA not likely having the authority to make some moves going forward because of the new guy from Cleveland meant he'd rather move on and wait for the right situation. From his previous deals we know he's got a big set and he knows what he wants. This upper management wasn't it. Damn.
  17. Some of us are sure.
  18. And CNN says: Thank goodness we have something to cover.
  19. Tough to beat fins 'n feathers.
  20. That's great T.J. How do the bird numbers look to you this year?
  21. It's not a Monday-Friday (9am-5pm) world for most of us anymore. There are enough barriers to hunting as is. If I'm going to bring my kids with hunting, I've got either Saturday or Sunday as an option.
  22. Imagine not being able to hunt your own property because it's Sunday? The OFAH member hunting county forests is another issue.
  23. The good of the one outweigh the good for the many eh?
  24. That bad. Colossal mistakes.
