  1. An article by Roy MacGregor in the Globe and Mail on the Muskoka River: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/along-ontarios-idyllic-muskoka-river-locals-fight-dam-development/article25814523/
  2. Went up to Port Severn to see extended family yesterday. The kids (with a wide range of fishing experience) usually catch panfish by the bucket full off the dock but someone is now consumed with topwater frogs. He's had some bass blow-up on his frogs but he hasn't got one to the boat yet. So while I was helping his little sister catch "the biggest rockbass ever" he calmly tells me he's got a fish on his frog. I look over and sure enough his rod is bent over and there is a snot rocket jumping out of the water. Mass pandemonium from the kids on the dock as we land "biggest fish in the lake". The pike goes back as the kids consider if they should be swimming in the same water as the "monster pike". Ryan and I shared a look and I though about showing them some photos of the pike and muskie we've caught from near by but thought better of it. Shortly after a wind gust from nowhere had lawn furniture and swim toys looking like tumble weeds, and kids fighting for their balance on the dock so the fishing was cut short. The lobster was delicious though and someone wanted to bring some shell home.
  3. Some form/brand like this: http://www.cabelas.ca/product/13853/cabelas-premium-duolock-snaps-nickel Lighter and stronger. Get the right size/strengths for the need and you're set.
  4. Likely the A/C, stereo/woofer and ground effect lighting system are drawing too much from your battery.
  5. Ah, I've got a skinny boat... my head is another matter.
  6. I know kempenfest is a big deal for lots of people but it's a no-go for me. What's wrong with the ramp B? I've only had issues with users.
  7. http://www.nugget.ca/2015/07/30/baitfish-blitz-leads-to-18-charges The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry laid 18 charges and issued 71 warnings in a two-month baitfish enforcement blitz in the Northeast Region. Conservation officers from Chapleau, Wawa, Timmins, Hearst, Kirkland Lake, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury checked 1,394 individuals from May 1 to June 30, 2015. Officers inspected 126 bait dealers and harvesters, paying special attention to the possession and sale of species other than bait, the proper use of log books, and licensing. They also worked jointly with the Ontario Provincial Police, Quebec conservation officers, the ministry’s canine units and other agencies to check 134 individuals entering Ontario to ensure baitfish, leeches, crayfish and invasive species were not being imported into the province. In addition, officers inspected 1,134 bait buckets, at boat launches and on water, to ensure only baitfish species were being used for angling and bait was being disposed of properly. Officers laid 18 charges for: possessing unlawful fish from other jurisdictions fishing without a licence selling fish without a licence bringing live leeches into Ontario for bait failing to comply with licence conditions possessing non-baitfish species Officers issued 71 warnings for: failing to complete, produce or keep a bait dealer’s daily log possessing non-baitfish species possessing more than 120 baitfish taking baitfish for commercial purposes without a licence failing to submit an annual return Officers also used the opportunity to educate dealers, harvesters and anglers on the importance of preventing the movement and transfer of invasive species. For further information on fishing regulations, please consult the Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary, available at ontario.ca/fishing. To report a natural resources violation, call the MNRF TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667 toll-free any time or contact your local ministry office during regular business hours. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
  8. And that's when the fight started. lol My head understands the pros of synthetic but my heart doesn't care. It's a personal choice that has more to do with heart then head.
  9. I'm a huge proponent of the smaller gauges, but as a single cover-all-bases shotgun a 12 is a good place to start. Used ones are readily available from private sales or most small stores, check out EPPs website even if you're not close. It will give you an idea as to the price ranges of what might be out there. A three inch chamber gives you more options and a 3.5 inch is nice but not a must. Get the right size shot and load and you can use it for everything and then add to the collection it you want to later. Pump/auto/double is another angle. All have pros and cons that will depend on what you want and use it for most and just plain personal preference.
  10. Lew with bait. lol Some weed choked medium small lake that it fertile and never fished.
  11. You are gonna need bigger flippers if you're gonna drag against him.
  12. Weird dreams...New business name, full waxing salon called: Grip it, and rip it. I need to go fishing.

  13. July 23, 2015 update: http://www.nugget.ca/2015/07/23/court-date-approaching-for-two-charged-by-mnrf Rachael Couchie and Kyle Goulais are scheduled to appear in court August 11 to answer to charges laid by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. The charges are in relation to unmarked gill nets found in Lake Nipissing. According to Ontario Court of Justice documents, Couchie was charged with leaving decaying fish (in a net), an offence under the Federal Fisheries Act. Goulais faces charges under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, as well as leaving decaying fish. Ministry spokeswoman Jolanta Kowalski said “the matter is still before the courts so it wouldn’t be appropriate for us to comment.” Kowalski did not identify the suspect or explain why his or her identity was withheld when charges were laid. Ministry officers pulled 13 abandoned nets from Lake Nipissing from June 7 to late August last year. A majority contained hundreds of dead fish. Nipissing First Nation put a stop to gill netting on Lake Nipissing last fall in response to concerns from its community members about the health of the walleye fishery. Chief Marianna Couchie stated in a previous article that the band council closed down gill netting on the lake until spring when the recreational walleye fishing season opens. She stated many people wanted Nipissing First Nation to close gill netting completely. However, the band council opted instead for a temporary closure out of concern for community members whose livelihoods depend on the fishery. [email protected]
  14. I see them as a deep hook out tool, but as such, I'd like them to be a little longer. The ones pictured are what I saw at Cabela's. Not sure if there are different lengths or brands out there.
  15. I have most of the usual removal tools but saw these and figured I'd seek some first hand feedback.
  16. Bench seats? Could use some pvc pipe and C-clamps.
  17. This one had much more realistic legs that were pulled off. Used a spinner bait skirt and the same technique. Tried some gorilla glue to hold the legs in place and fill the holes that are a little bigger than on the other one.
  18. No problem. I'll also sew the holes at the tops as well.
  19. Too bad it only comes in a right side version.
  20. Big deal.
  21. You'd recommend gorilla glue over crazy? I haven't used gorilla before.

  23. Had a frog bait with all the "legs" pulled out and came up with this repair/fix and thought I'd share. I used a pick and 25lb test mono. I used the pick to pull a loop of line through the legs holes that didn't line-up so that you could just loop the line on its own. I figured the thick 25lb mono would help not to "cut" the line as I pulled the legs through, but was still gentle. Don't put mono loop in the middle of the legs or you'll have to pull more leg through the frog, just do the 1st third or quarter. Once the legs are through then even them up. I had turned the hooks around to make it easier, not sure if it really made a difference or not. Hooks flipped back over and ready to go again. I might try some crazy glue to help hold the legs in place.
  24. Not sure how close some might be following iCAST but wondered what had caught your eye? Saw something about a low profile baitcaster with a 9:1 gear ratio.
  25. Flouro does sink faster than similar strength mono but stretches as much or more.
