  1. Straight math, he loses 10/82 of his 13/14 salary, but he does get to right it off.
  2. I've wonder about them as a loaner if I've got someone with me who can't reel my lefthand reels.
  3. I had good luck fishing neck-down areas between islands, or islands and the mainland provided there was deepish water (>10ft) between.
  4. Ah the fallacy of the code. Fighters don't fight non-fighters and goons don't go after the talent. The Sabre's coach needs to answer for his responsibility. Kessel will get something for the stick work although what else do you do when someone who is 12 inches taller and 90 odd pounds heavier then you drops the gloves and tries to go? Clarkson left the bench, that's pretty cut and dried. We all know what would have happened if Randy had sent out his big guys. He tried to end it by sending out obvious non-fighters (the code) and the Sabres didn't care. This was all after there had been a fight and one player was concussed after hitting his head on the ice. This is preseason.
  5. Havn't seen the crap from last night but if the league continues to leave it to the players to take care of things, ie the code, then small guys like Kessel will continue to use their stick like an axe. It's not right, but that's the way it is. On a slight tangent: Some of us here should remember a "tough guy" from the 80s and 90s that made sure everytime you tried to hit him clean you had to go through a crosscheck or his elbow.
  6. Apparently the goalies went at it tonight with Bernier doing his best impression of Potvin laying a beatdown on Hextall. The best part is Miller was playing the part of Hextall. I'll need to watch Sportscentre later.
  7. The rules are not open to assumptions. Other rules of the game have been relaxed for shootout attempts with the league's blessing. The kicking the puck into the net rule is held up as a rule to protect players (Completely incorrect btw, but that's not the focus here). No player's safety was endangered during the play. Again we are talking about an unsuccessful shootout attempt during the preseason.
  8. I'm not trying to be argumentative here but if we are going to look at the letter of the law then I'll contend that the shaft of the stick is not the blade (which the rule specifically mentions) and that he levered his stick against his shin to propel the puck rather then kicked the puck.
  9. That's how I saw it. I don't think there is anything in the rules that says that is illegal. I wonder if they league might revisit that type of "shot", but since it is unlikely that a player is going to try that during the season it may not matter.
  10. That's great Simon. Interesting to see the similarities in our sons as we introduce them to what we love.
  11. Come on. What am I going to watch while drinking my coffee?
  12. I haven't hunted them in this area before but I've been out scouting a few spots this summer with mixed results. I've also been using google maps, topos and some land use maps to find some new spots. I don't have the days/time to drive up to North Bay like the "old days".
  13. Nice Rich. I think you fish up here more then a lot of us Canucks do.
  14. Smooth drag? Or smooth free spool? A spinning reel spool can be "palmed" for drag and use an open bail for the drift. A baitcaster can be thumbed and the cast control can be backed off and the line fed by hand. Neither are as good as a float reel but I would think both might be better then buying a fly reel and converting it.
  15. Is the tube camoed? Never thought of useing a float tube for ducks. I think I'd borrow my brother's gun for that.
  16. Nice. Any idea what's in its mouth? I was thinking flying ant.
  17. For all that, I wonder if a spinning reel with a nice drag or a baitcaster might be an easier stopgap?
  18. Great stuff Ben. I'm gonna miss getting up there this year but next fall it will happen.
  19. Anybody else getting wound up for chickens? I'm sitting here on a rainy day thinking about how I can best use my free time to get some more fishing and hunting trips in the next few weeks. I feel a bit like a huntin' dog the day before the season starts.
  20. For me there are so many other things that need to line-up for an outing that I don't worry too much about, or pay attention to the barometer.
