Awwright, I am kinda back, needed a break from reality
lew replied to tjsa's topic in General Discussion
Good to see you back Tom, I was wondering where you got to -
Morons who roar between you & a shoreline when your casting to said shoreline. Morons who roar between you & a weedbed when your casting to said weedbed. Morons who roar 30' behind me when the lake is 2 miles wide. People who don't go fish'n because it may rain. People who anchor right in the middle of a narrow channel. The same jetskiers that rickster was talkin about. AND THE FILTHY PIGS WHO LEAVE THEIR GARBAGE ON THE BOAT RAMP !!!!!!!

I saw a doe & 2 small fawns standing at the side of Hwy 11 just south of North Bay last month coming down from Lakair. They weren't 20' away from the road and didn't seem the least bit concerned as they happily munched away with Mom. I think I smiled all the way home after seeing those little guys and their proud Momma

There used to be a show on the tube a few years back with a guy from around the Ottawa area but I can't come up with his name.....young guy with black hair I think. He mostly fished for bass from the area and always put on a good show. I remember one show he did for bass & musky with Big Jim. No crapola, but a good sense of humour and some interesting stuff.....anybody remember who I'm talkin about ?? There was another 1/2 decent show I used to like with a girl by the name of Karen Monahan ......or sumthin like that.....but I think she got involved in the scandal with Henry & Italo and sorta disappeared from the fish'n scene.

Someone should tell him not to stand on the scale himself when he weighs his fish
-
Mornin Marc, I've read the entire thread on the other board and it's hilarious Maybe you should take dude fish'n for a day
-
WTG Shelley, I'm really happy for you guys !! You took the time to look around for exactly what you wanted, rather than jumping at something else too soon and regretting the decision down the road later on. Smokercraft & Merc both have excellent reputaions and you should enjoy that new rig for many years to come.

There's another one for today Mo. Your gonna look good racing across GB in that new boat
-
I've watched a couple of Daves seminars at the fish'n shows and their aways entertaining, so I'd bet this new show will be good too. Congrats Dave & best of luck with it

You can get your cover modified to fit right over your motor if you want. Mine was custom made for my boat, including covering the troll motor completely, but then I went for a longer shaft on the motor, so I just took it back and had it modified to fit the new one. It was only about $100 for the adjustment, but certainly worth it. You may not get the color to match the existing cover perfectly, but it should come pretty close.

Have you tried a fluorocarbon leader, Rich ??

About the only one I ever watch anymore is Izumi, always enjoyed his show since he 1st came on the tube 20 odd years ago and still find him entertaining. All Cronzy wants to do is eat every fish in the lake..... Italo always makes me think he's talkin to a bunch of 6 year olds, and why does he measure every fish he catches ?? Who else measures every fish they catch....and why would you ??.....and why is he always impressed by the way a fish shines ....sheeeeeeesh..... That guy from Simply Fishing is nuthin but a walking commercial..... And Fish'n Canada.......well, we won't even go there..... Always liked In-Fisherman, but can't get it anymore. I'm with Raf, better to go catch yer own fish than watch these guys

Congrats, that's a beautiful fish, but don't get too caught up in the size of them. Unless your fishing a tourney or else it's a real monster, size doesn't really matter that much and some folks tend to get too caught up in how long or heavy a fish really is. Just enjoy it for what it is

VERY sorry to hear the news Jack, that's always a tough decision to make. Nothing in this world makes as good a friend as a dog.

Thanks scuro, that was by far the best fishing report I've read in a loooooong time Awesome pictures too !!

Truer words were never spoken Brian. After my son died a couple years back, my daughter decided to become my new fish'n partner and it's been a VERY enjoyable experience for both of us. She's in her mid 30's now but was never a fisherman.....er, fishergirl......yet she caught on fast and now we hit the musky waters together and have a great time. Whenever the fish hits my bait, I set the hook, then pass the rod to Sheri to let her have the fun of the fight. When it grabs her bait, I watch her as her smile broadens with each passing second She's getting really good at fighting the fish and is a very fast learner. I now plan my fishing trips around her and it's something we both look forward to every week. As Brian says, folks, take your kids fishing !!

Thanks Mike, I always look forward to your stories about you fish'n with your kids, and your making alot of great memories for both them and yourself !!

Beautiful pair of fish Matt, and congratulations on your 1st ever 50"er !!!! The look on your face pretty well tells the whole story. Great release shot too, that always makes for the best picture !! BTW, it's the 25th & 26th of this month we'll be coming up.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of healthy green weed on Pigeon, but there is lots of bad stuff in some of my favorite spots that is not normally like that this time of year. This is something that has only happened this year. As for Stoney, I was there last weekend, and yes there is lots of excellent green growth, but I also found alot of terrible stuff too, that wouldn't even attract all those dead carp that are floating everywhere. I've been fishing the Kawarthas for a very long time, maybe 50 years, and I've just never before seen this much brown, slimey weed growth, and so close to the surface, before. I just hope there isn't an underlying problem in those waters that may even be associated with the dead carp.......but I'm just thinking out loud about that .

Good to hear you enjoyed your time on Lovesick, it's by far one of the prettiest of all the Kawartha lakes and holds alot of decent fish. Topwater fishing is very effective for fish, specially the active, aggressive ones, but it can be extremely frustrating sometimes and you'll miss alot of fish. When the fish is coming up from under the bait, he's pushing alot of water ahead of his nose, and the bigger the fish, the more water he's pushing. As he gets to the surface, all that water being pushed ahead of him actually shoves the bait outta the way, so when he makes a grab for it, the bait is now in a different location than when he first opened his mouth. As pointed out by lookinforwalleye, wait till you actually feel the fish, but if not, just continue working the bait as you were before and give him another chance to grab it. They'll sometimes swipe at it 3 or 4 times before you hook him up. Frustrating sometime, but definetely one of the most fun ways to fish.

There's a large parking lot just north of the marina, behind the hockey rink, but I don't know if they'll allow fishermen to park their cars & trailers there or not, but it couldn't hurt to ask them. They've built a beautiful new docking facility in that location for big cruisers passing thru town on the water, but have never built anything decent for guys who want to launch small boats to spend a day fishing. Not even a dock to tie up to once you launch your boat.
-
Good stuff Terry, that's a beautiful musky your bud caught. Maybe I'll start carrying some little pickeral lures in the boat for when the normal musky baits aren't doing anything productive
-
You could be right Roy, but the way those critters are dropping, there may not be any left in the Kawarthas by the end of this year. From some of the reports around, the die-off is spreading thru the system pretty darned quick. The stench in a few areas was enuff to chase me away, one small bay had about 6 rotting carcasses floating around in it
