  1. Don, I've also heard it relieves some pressure off the wheel bearings too......don't know if it's true or not, but it can't hurt
  2. Hey Mo, something else I always like to do with my boat when it's going away for the winter, is to lift the trailer up and put jack stands under it, just to keep the weight off the tires for all those months. Not something everyone does, but I personally think it helps.
  3. Guess I better break out the woolies too, eh Wayne ??
  4. The north half of the lake is shallower with lots of rocks as metioned by Kawartha Kev, while the south side is for the most part, much deeper & safer. You'll still find plenty of green weed, specially in the deeper sections, and if you can find it adjacent to the rocks, all the better. Work the deeper weed edges, plus the rock - weed transitions with some large supending baits with plenty of hang time and slower than you would have a month ago, and you could be a happy fisherman. Don't ferget your camera and good luck.
  5. Not to difficult to winterize a 2 stroke Mo. With the gas stabilizer, you need to mix it with a bit of gas, maybe a quart, then pour it into the gas tank. Now you need to run the motor for awhile to circulate it thru the entire system. You can buy a set of motor muffs at CTC for only about $15. You hook them to a garden hose and put them on the very bottom of your motor where it draws in the water. You'll see it, there'll be some slots in the housing. Turn on the water, start the engine and run it for about 15 minutes. You'll know everything is working properly if you see a stream of water coming outta the pee hole. For the oil in the lower unit, you should be able to buy it from any boat dealer in your area. You can buy a tube that you squeeze the oil out, or better yet is a pump tank that I always find much more convenient, plus you can re-use the pump every year and just buy the oil afterwards. Also be sure to buy new washers for the screws that you'll be removing to drain and then refill the oil. Their only a few cents each. You'll also need fogging oil to spray into the carburators to keep everything nice and lubricated for the winter. Sounds like lotsa work, but it's all pretty simple really. There's other stuff, but I gotta run right now before I burn the supper
  6. Congrats on the new PB, it's always great when you can set a new benchmark. Gotta luv them Quinte bigguns !!
  7. capt bruce, I'm assuming your talking about the lymphosarcoma that was evident on a couple of the fish that Wayne & I got on Scugog last week ?? That's a condition that is very prevelant in Kawartha muskies and something that occurs very regularily and my own guestimate is maybe 8-10 % of the fish have it. I normally boat around 70 - 100+ muskies a year myself and regularily see 10-12 fish with that condition each season. I've talked to the MNR about it and they are fully aware of the problem but claim it's a form of skin cancer and is just a natural thing that has been around for more than 100 years and is evidentely passed from one fish to another during the spawn. I've also seen fish that have only a scar on them where it appears they've had this condition at one time, but it has healed over and cleared up, but that's only my opinion. It may also be prevelant in other locations around the musky world, but I don't have that information. It's definetely a very grotesque affliction, but doesn't seem to affect the strength of the fish at all and they still fight as well as any healthy fish.
  8. Nuthin wrong with fishing in the snow Wayne, at least we won't be bothered by skeeters
  9. Sorry if I caused any confusion for you Kevin, I just found that unit in the "Bargain Bin" Hope you enjoy it
  10. You know me too well Wayne ..... I checked my calander........and now you have an email
  11. I can darned near smell that from here.....looks awful tasty
  12. Go for it Joey, you'll probably thank yourself later for doing it
  13. That's definetely the unit Kevin, but it's strange, I've gone to the Cabella website twice now and can't find that unit listed anymore. I can see several LCX units, but not that one. Anyways, go for it if you can, I've got a couple friends with that model and their all very happy with it.
  14. Kevin, are you sure Cabellas even have those 25's anymore ?? Since I posted that link for the 1/2 price sale, they seemed to have removed them from the website, unless I'm just not looking in the right place, but I don't see them listed anymore.
  15. I ordered a GPS from them last December and it arrived in 3 business days.....fabulous service. You also get a tracking # so you can follow the progress of your order.
  16. That's some funny stuff Holdfast, I haven't thought of the Battles of Barrington Street in years, and there's not many ex-sailors around that haven't taken part in at least a few of them. Ahhh yes, the good old daze, wake up in jail in the morning with all your buds, bloodied & bruised and talk about how much fun we had the night before My dad also served 5 years in the Navy, mostly on a Corvette, but he did serve one year on a sweeper, but that was back during the war. It was his tales that inspired me to join up too.
  17. Why aren't I surprised that Rein won the tourney, WTG bud !! The man definetely knows his stuff when it comes to fish'n !! Thanks for the update Fishmaster, looks like a great day.
  18. Beautiful Gerritt, any kid can have $1000 worth of toys, but nearly all would trade them for a pail full of leaves
  19. I'll make it easy on you grt1, we'll just swap houses You want the city & I want the country and I couldn't care less about the shopping or the entertainment, but fishing the Kenora region would suit me just fine Course if you move here to Toronto you'll need to purchase a bullet proof vest......
  20. Your just gonna keep rubbing that in, aren't you Wayne ?? ....over & over & over &.......
  21. I think alot of these show hosts set lousy examples for young fisherfolk who are trying to learn the sport and watch these guys to try and learn things. Obviously their not role models for anybody, at least not in my opinion, but when your on the tube and being watched by 1000's, I think they could set a better example as far as techniques are concerned. One of my biggest beefs is the way they hold a fish outta the water while they yap about a sponsors products and how they would never have caught a fish with out it, and meanwhile the fish is gasping for air. If you gonna keep a fish, that's fine, but don't hold it in your fat little mitt for 3 minutes while you and then toss it back in the drink. And what about Italo ?? He measures nearly every single fish he catches no matter how big it is. Why on earth would anyone have to take the time to measure a 17" pickeral or a 12" bass. Same as weighing a fish, why do they care if a salmon is 12 pounds or a bass 3 pounds or a musky is 9 pounds. I can see it if they hook into a trophy fish, but c'mon, are they just trying to make themselves look good with the dinks ?? And why does everybody dislike Shelly & Courtney ?? I think you guys are all just jealous cause a couple gurls got TV show & you didn't
  22. This has nuthin to do with fishing, but it's a Sunday morning and I'm bored so I thought I'd pass this sad little story on if anyone is interested. I joined the Navy way back in November 1963, infact, it was the same day that John F Kennedy was murdered in Texas. I was stationed in Halifax and made some really good friends while there, but spent most of my time with one bud in particular. After awhile, we ended up on different ships, and while sailing off to different corners of the world, we lost touch with each other.....no email back in those days and phone calls from one ship to another were verbotten. I got out of the Navy a few years later and came back to Ontario, got married, started a family and a career and never heard from my old bud again. Anyways, there's a few websites around about the Navy and one in particular has a section where you can post your personal info, such as what ships you were on and dates and email addy's in hopes of getting in touch with long lost shipmates, so I posted to it a couple years back in hopes of finding my old pal. I've heard back from several old friends from back in the good ole days, and then sure enuff, last month I get an email from the guy I've been wanting to hear from. He'd somehow come across the same Navy website, found my message and contacted me. I was so darned happy to finally hear from him and we began talking and sharing photo's from back in the day. Turns out he's in Windsor and now I'm thinking of getting together down the road for a mini reunion and sharing some tales from days past. Then I never heard anything from him for a few days, but I figure he's busy or something and he'll contact me later. Last week I get an email from his wife telling me my old long lost pal has been rushed to the hospital in serious condition and things aren't looking good for him. Then last night I get another email from her telling me he died Strange how things happen in this life isn't it ?? Think about someone for 40 years, then finally connect with them, and a month later it's all over. Sorry if my little tale bored you, and I'm certainly NOT looking for any sympathy or anything, but I just thought I'd pass it on to you incase you've got any long lost pals that you've thought of looking up. So, what about it, does anybody here have anyone you've lost touch with over the years, and have been thinking of searching for ??
  23. Great fishing report Wayne, even without the fish !! Beautiful scenery shots too Keep working on that big girl on the hump, your day is coming bud !! Your right about some of the rules though Wayne, some of them are good, but others don't always seem to make alot of sense sometimes. Same thing as requiring a flashlight in your boat at noon when you NEVER fish at night. And requiring a fire extinguisher in a boat with a built-in gas tank, but not for a boat with a portable gas tank. Guess the rulemakers figure 5 gallons of flaming gas in your boat isn't a problem And you can drive a 40' cabin cruiser WITHOUT a license, but you NEED a license when you hop in the 8' dingy with a 5 hp to go to shore Strange stuff.....very strange indeed.....
  24. Absolutely fantastic Don and congrats on finally getting #1, she's a real beaut !! I was hoping it woulda happened when we were up north last August, but this is just as good !!
