  1. Here's my ice fishing toys. I added studs to the Ski-doo's track, for the extra traction needed to pull the trailer/fish hut; on the bare ice. Going to replace the axle on the ice hut and move the wheels out from under. Then make up a drop suspension, so that I can lay the frame right down on the ice. Something like this trailer. I made the door on the hut large enough, so that I can drive the snowmobile in. It works pretty good, I have the comfort of a permanent hut; that I can travel to different lakes with. Dan
  2. Angling sports do carry a crap load of stuff; but the one time I was in there, I felt like I was out of place. As in after 20 or 30 minutes of browsing (like I said they have a lot of stuff) we were never approached by a sales person. My buddy was looking for a floater suit (he's a big guy) and there was nothing on the racks that would fit him. Went up to the front where a few people were hanging around and again we were not acknowledged that we were even there? So we walked out just like we walked in; invisible to the store and staff? Dan. Just went to their web site; under the tab profile it says this. I felt the difference. LOL Outstanding service and selection is the key to our success. Come in and experience the difference.
  3. Thanks Lew I just started collecting a few new body panels for her. Found a place in Michigan that are still stamping out rear 1/4 panels from original GM dies. Going to get one or two pieces at a time, so that they'll slip under the wife's radar. Man I hate it when she locks my boys away in her purse; takes forever to get them back out. LOL Dan.
  4. Here's my baby. 1950 Chevy Styleline Deluxe. Believe it or not I found her in Cornwall on a Kijiji add. I originally wanted a 49, which was the first production year of this body style and GM's first redesign post WW2. But when I saw this 50 I had to have it. She's not perfect but has potential for a 66 year old car that was build in Oshawa. I've tried keeping her looking stock on the outside and most of the interior. Under the hood the 216cu" 6 cylinder with 92hp and the rest of the drivetrain, was getting tired; so it got some up dating. That's a 1999 4.8Lt Vortec V8 fuel injected/computer controlled engine rated at 255hp. The engine was salvaged out of a wrecked Silverado pickup. A bit of work getting the motor and the 4L60E auto trans to fit. After that a bit of wiring to get the computer on-line and we were off down the road with a nice highway cruiser. Talk about a jaw dropper; when grandpa's car leaves the intersection with the rear wheels on fire. LOL Dan.
  5. I'm not defending, just trying to make sense of this. I think in the wrong way, he's trying to say that some of the older members that have aches and pains and can no longer walk the rivers for miles or be in a boat with 4 footers pounding; have his pass on not posting new reports. If so then I'm one of the "old timer"s Dan.
  6. Down around Turkey Point (Simcoe/Delhi area) there are still quite a few self-serve vegetable stands. Usually fresh, good quality stuff and inexpensive. We'll normally round up our purchase to the next folding denomination. Like if it was 13 bucks, we'd throw in 15. Dan.
  7. Put on a sweater and call the landlord for direction. Start mucking with it and you may cause more issues than what there is now. If you owned the place, it would be a different story. Dan.
  8. Automotive liability insurance, is a law; that comes with a fairly hefty fine. What's the first three words out of a cop's mouth, when you get stopped; license, ownership and insurance and there are still idiots driving the roads without insurance? Not sure if this will come out right; but the right person or the right person's family hasn't been hurt yet to have boater's liability insurance mandated. I mean someone with the financial, legal and political clout to force the law through; but it'll happen someday. People will whine and complain; but I think it should be law. The same as any other motor vehicle, used on public access roads; why not waterways? Dan.
  9. Melting any form of lead is toxic. There are lead particles in the fumes coming off the lead, during the melting and pouring. There are a lot of percussion that should be taken, when working with lead; but a minimum of a respirator should be used at all times while its in liquid form. Here's just one link of many, from a google search "fumes from melting lead". http://www.mrc.ac.za/environmenthealth/melting.pdf Dan.
  10. You could try checking places like Bell Canada's repair facilities or other companies that have taken over the repairs of underground communication lines for bell. Not sure if they'll sell to the public? The old underground copper wiring, is/was encased in 6,8 or 10" lead tubes; when they need to repair a section or replace a run, the lead is pulled out and taken back to the repair depot for disposal. A buddy of mine that has just retired from Bell, used to get me 3-4' lengths of this lead; I would give it too another friend who made all kinds of jigs and sinkers with. Another source is your local garages and their old wheel weights. Melt it down, skim off the impurities and make your own clean lead for pouring your molds. Dan.
  11. There is a way around the dirty voltage, it may sound like the long way around; but it works for sensitive electronics. Get a 12dcv/120acv inverter, large enough to run whatever device you plan on running with the generator. Connect the generator to a 12 volt DC battery to keep it charged. The generator will run at its lowest (cleanest) output. Connect the inverter to the battery; then the device plugs into the inverter; clean steady AC voltage. Dan.
  12. If possible duct in from the house. If not an RV/trailer propane furnace that is self contained and runs on 12 DC battery or a converter.
  13. Careful man that's painting a few professions and all those in with the same brush. My daughter is a personal injury lawyer. She goes to court battling insurance companies who are trying to get out of pay claims. I still tease her calling her an ambulance chaser; but some of the tid bits she has told me of her cases. There are a lot of happy people that she was there to defend them. Dan.
  14. These pics didn't post for some reason? Dan.
  15. For heat try looking for a used RV furnace; that's what I put in my fish hut. They run on propane and 12 volts DC; working properly they sip both. 8 hours in the hut, -20°C outside (not including windchill) set the thermostat at 20°C; the furnace would cycle maybe every 15 minutes. Tested battery when I got home and it still showed 70% charged and just by picking up the propane tank, I couldn't tell it was used. The install is a breeze, if you can flare copper tubing and know how to use a 12v test light. If you go that route or something similar, make sure the genny has a 12VDC port to charge the battery; while you're working with your other electric tools. Also went with LED lighting in the fish hut; gives off lots of light with every little voltage consumed Dan.
  16. Sure let's give a bunch of off the cuff advice, on something as trivial as brakes; all they do is STOP the friggin vehicle! Take the truck into a shop and have it diagnosed. If the issue(s) are something you think you can handle; you're not committed in letting that shop do the repairs. Sure anyone can slap a set of pads and calipers on; but to install them properly is another thing too make them last and function as intended. You wouldn't believe how much money I've made, from homespun repair attempts that I've had to correct over the years and it is getting better all the time with Youtube. LOL Dan.
  17. The older cases would also seep acid over time and eat the concrete or if the floor was painted; it wouldn't be after the batteries were there for awhile. LOL Back in the 70s all our batteries, we had in stock were left dry; until they were sold. We had a keg of acid in the stock room where we'd fill the batteries and then put them on slow charge for at least 4 or 5 hours before the customer got their car back. Dan.
  18. Time for a small gas motor and use your electric as a backup if the gasser fails or for positioning. Dan.
  19. Close The Pond Mills area; but there are quite a few new Canadian families here now. It seems every time a house is sold, a new extended large family move in. Don't get me wrong; I have not seen another open disrespect towards our life style or beliefs since that day. But like I said they do live amongst us. Dan.
  20. You don't need to look all the way to the Middle East to see or feel how some felt that day. I moved into my house 28 years ago and over those years there has been many new Canadians move into the neighbourhood; mostly Lebanese. The family right next door to me had a group of their friends sitting in a semi circle on the front lawn; passing around a hookah pipe that afternoon. They were speaking Arabic, laughing and every once and awhile we'd hear them cheer? I took the dog for a walk and found out what the cheering was all about; they were watching the news reports on a portable tv. Every time they'd play a plane hitting one of the towers or the towers coming down they would cheer as if they were watching a sports game and their team just scored. I went in the house called the cops; where I was told they couldn't do anything. They did send a cruiser and the cop did get out and talked to them; where their little party did break up. Before 9/11 the women wore western clothes and most did not have their head covered; the men were mostly clean shaven. Since then 90% of the women are dressed more Eastern and I have never seen the neighbour without her head covered. For at least 5 years after 9/11 he and most of the Lebanese men had full beards. I'm only speaking of what I have seen and lived with; I'm not trying to paint everyone with the same brush; but they do live among us. Dan.
  21. I ended up babysitting a couple of unmarked RCMP vehicles, that were in for servicing that day. The officers that drove the units were called to Ottawa for reassignment; it was close to a month before they were back here in London. Dan.
  22. Run #4 cables (+ -) front to rear before the floor goes down. Bring the cables up through the floor at the rear. Fix the cables to an insulated item; like the transom if its wood or make something that you can easily connect accessories to. Dan.
  23. Use it or not but don't mix the two. The chemical packages in the two may cause each other to break down or separate? I'm no chemist but working as a machanic I know some additives don't mix. Dan.
