IF you were going to buy a new laptop
Old Ironmaker replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Steve said "It's too bad that it's Big Cliff waiting it and not Beans. And he needs a real laptop with a DVD in it." Exactly what I think he needs too Steve. In fact that what he asked for. 10 trillion gigabibbles of space not required. Sorry " Steve" not "eve". -
And award 2 points to the holder of the Cup they win. As far as the All Star team give more $$, money seems to bring out effort, sometimes. As far as 1 team being able to get 2 more points than the rest? Well you hockey minds will figure it out.

IF you were going to buy a new laptop

Consigliere said, "This is crazy. If you need office and surf the Internet get a chrome book for 150. Use google docs. By far the cheapest option for the most functionality. There is no comparison for the money. I have had Mac, good windows etc. Will buy chrome every time from now on." The best advice for Beans here as of yet. I have never met Beans but I am familiar with him as far as IT stuff goes. Not clueless but maybe has just enough intelligence to be detrimental to the cause. Very much like me. I will give an analogy. He is looking at 4X4's with a V8 (new laptop with 7 jigaboobles, maybe a V6 minimum), maybe even Military grade aluminium box (Mac). He never tows anything and it doesn't snow where he lives. Besides that he never puts anything in the trunk of his car anyway. Although not very sexy all he needs is a Ford Escort ( a note book to use for these sites and type a letter). But Beansie is willing to save up for something he doesn't realize he doesn't need because everyone else has one. When I was in business I had 5 PC's and 7 laptops because I needed them and probably more. Johnny D, the other Consigliare. -
My Mother and Father in law lived in Parksville down the road from Qualcom Beach. Another Canadian paradise for sure.

A fishing buddy bought a high quality centre pin when he was in BC on a job. For a laugh we put it on a 8' downrigger rod with a snap weight. Got into a 10 # Pickerel, wow wa weewa, smooth, smooth. Not in the budget.

Another Hail Mary to tie a game
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Never count out Rogers. A first ballot Hall of Fame inductee. I love the passion in this guy. Some bad calls? How about atrocious calls, both ways. I know I wouldn't want to be a Zebra in todays game. Did anyone watch the replay of the lost footage of Super Bowl 1 last night on the NFL network? One of the D line guys throws the ball carrier to the ground 10 seconds after the whistle blows, guys are huddling up and the ref grabs the guys sweater and he pushes the official. No penalty. -
I never want to go to a party that I know I'm not really welcome. It doesn't shine a very good light on the NHL. I never really liked Betman. I don't know the guy but I know I couldn't have a guy like him work for me. A practical social media joke gone bad? Is he really that bad? When Zedeno Chiarra (sic) came into the league apparently he was a poor skater for an NHL player according to a WGR 550 discussion yesterday. He worked hard at it and has done well. As far as a law suit, what are his real damages? Is there a bonus or game cheque for the All Star game? Maybe they paid him anyway.

Another Hail Mary to tie a game
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
First play from scrimmage Larry Fitzgerald of Arizona takes a pass to the Green Bay 5 yard line. 75 yards. Just when you think you have seen it all a game like this comes along. Stand by. The coin didn't flip, COME ON MAN! Fitzgerald take a shovel pass runs the 1 gap for 5 yards, game over. That will be along flight back to reality for the Packers. Hail Mary to tie, coin didn't flip, 3 plays latter Mary has abandoned the Packers. -
As I type this a Hail Mary pass from Aaron Rogers to Jeff Janus with zero time on the clock is under review. This will tie the game and force OT. This would be his second of the season, most QB's don't throw 1 in a career let alone 2 in 1 season. The point after is up and good 20-20. This guy has to have the strongest arm in the history of the game. He is running to his left and hurls the thing 50 yards maybe more. Soon to be at a TSN hi light nearest you. OK this is crazy, the coin is tossed for the OT, it didn't flip so the ref gets to do it again, it didn't flip! There are powers from somewhere to make sh&^ like this happen. The coin didn't flip!!!!?????

Dealers want you to finance, they are in a partnership with the banks. They don't take Canadian Tire money, they will get paid. I will never buy new again. Only bought 1 new vehicle for myself in 40 plus years 4 years ago. Over an hour plus for an oil change, with an appointment. 6 large screens in the service waiting area giving updates with 5 service people dressed like they work on Bay St. not a car dealership. I had the body shop manager come out to look at the under carriage and he had to get under the truck to do it, no way, he made me wait for the truck to go onto a hoist "to get a better look" he didn't want to get his dress pants dusty or scratch his shinny shoes. All in the price of the "new" vehicle. I will stay away from the new car showrooms and walk across to the used and save big $. Why new? Let the other guy take the 15% or more depreciation once the front wheel hits the road. Slightly used, you choices are limited, granted, however you will save up to 25% after only 6 months. Buy the extended warranty for peace of mind. Separate your wants and needs. Get down to 2 choices and don't believe all the reviews you read. I love my Silverado but according to some that had a bad experience they blame the vehicle and not the establishment. If new is what you "want" the best time to get a real deal is the fall or when the new year models are on the lot. Onve they have you is when the pressure to upgrade is on. And they are good at squeezing another 8K in options from undercoating to a real spare tire. If a vehicle lists at 25K get ready for the final price shock when you pay the taxes, plus AC tax, something about environmental fee, realer prep and delivery, a charge to register, it all adds up and most of which is not paid on a slightly used vehicle. I stuck to my guns when it came to after market upgrades but did choose an extended warrany. Helps me sleep at night knowing a 4 wheel drive transmission is many, many thousands of dollars alone. I rented a Mitsubishi crossover type SUV for a road trip to Philly last summer and I can't remember what model, and I was very, very impressed. Not enough to tow my 19 foot boat though, so my needs aren't met. I think I was getting around 7.5 litres per 100K avg. Much nicer than my brothers Honda of the same type and much much less $$. Good luck.

If an item isn't at the swap meet it doesn't exist. Buddy bought around 150 quality spoons there last year in a few large plastic roll up lure pouches for $100.00. I watched a good quality Okuma trolling rod/reel combo sitting on a guys table all day. When he was packing up I grabbed it for 45 beans, he was asking $125.00. Wait until the meet, no Bass fishing until after that anyway. My opinion is if you are going to keep those fish frosty fresh recirculate the water continuously. It has been a while since I did a tourney which was a 4 fish limit (small mouth) 4 19" fish need room so we had both live wells going with 2 fish in each. We did use Rejuvenate as well. Bills Bait on Upper James Hamilton has it. Someone at the meet will I'm sure, finding the table is the trick. Hey Loonie, nice to read your posts and I can picture your movie star good looks now that we have met. You too Pics. 206, that's a beauty set up for a tinny. Garcia no need to reinvent the wheel, that Super Saver set up looks good to go for a smaller vessel.

Anyone want to fish Great Slave Lake with me?
Old Ironmaker replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
I wonder how many people hire anyone to work on their homes etc. and never ask to " prove " they are insured as well as their workers? Many, too many. -
I just typed out a 6 point list of secrets to buying a new vehicle, 45 years of buying and destroying bikes, cars and trucks, any and all means of human transportation including a school bus we borrowed at 14. All the things I have learned and never divulged these secrets to man kind. Experience is a lifetime of mistakes, wisdom is knowing how not to repeat them. I pushed the wrong button and it is gone into outer space, gonezo, maybe the spirit of all car salesmen do not want my secrets known. Sorry, I'll try again once this Football game is over.

Pink salt, do I really need this,,,,,,,, DONE ;)))))))
Old Ironmaker replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
I have retained a few gallons of water reading this thread. I have never smoked any meat in all my years. Dad never did or any of the Zio's or Compares did so we never learned. I think it was a country thing to do maybe, we never saw let alone eat any smoked meats when I was a kid. I never even saw a smoker until my 30's. Regardless an interesting thread that has taught me a few things so I can join the conversation when the crew is talking smoking meat or fish. As far as curing with salt, oh man we all started helping as soon as you could reach the table top. The job I hated worse was scrapping the salt and mold off the Prosciutto and salamuti when they were ready, I detested everything and anything pork stuffed into a casing until I eventually stopped helping make it. To think of all that Prociutto I passed up, now no one is left that can do it well now or will take the time when we can go to Fortinos and pay an arm and a leg for it. Bacon isn't in my diet. We will eat Pea Meal once every few months and that I love, salt and I have a love hate relationship. I'm so happy your bacon turned out great Brian, way to go. With a nice thick piece of that I would make a deadly Carbonari sauce. -
-41C hutless. It's a dry cold though!!!! -41, no wonder you are looking for a pop up. What would that be if you had a breeze? Oulu Finland in December cold, I will never go back there in this lifetime, I don't know how you frozen nuts do it.

IF you were going to buy a new laptop
Old Ironmaker replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
We just got ourselves a Dell with Windows 10 and loaded with programs at a very reasonable price. Today almost all the big box stores sell these things and none come with any programs today unlike when you bought Vista back when me you and Moses were in the same class. My brothers lady owns a small IT company and deals in these things every week. Drop me a PM if you are interested in picking her brain. She is in St.Catherines but they have these companies now that bring your stuff right to your door no matter where in the world you may be. edit: The Asus tablet I bought a week after Windows 8 came out was my favorite and even after the screen was smashed (long story) it still worked with the docking station. I want another one someday. I loved that thing, ASUS is a strong company and good customer service. -

Just a thought Mr. Borger. Set up a table with 4 or more screens going showing your videos and pics plus a big arse 55" above and behind the table at the Spring Fishing Show in TO and maybe Buffalo as well, sell draw tickets after jumping through all the legal hoops. I'm sure you will do well unless they want an arm and a leg for a spot. There will plenty of folks there that will be more than interested. Crunch the numbers, 10 tickets at 25 or 30 each is better than selling 2 at 100. I would think you may be there anyway. These hospital lotteries for a C note give you a shot at several hundred thousand $$ in prizes. $100.00 each may be pushing it especially for us retirees and family folk trying to keep fed and warm. At $25.00 I'm in for sure, $100.00 not in the budget for a chance to fish with you Mike. A big screen 8 feet in the air showing your stuff will draw customers like Bees to Honey. -
An actual fishing reports, thanks Mate.

IF you were going to buy a new laptop

I had one heck of a time a few years back dealing with Hewlett Packard. After spending a few hrs on the phone one day I started logging my phone time, mostly holding, 38 hours. It was returned to HP no less than 3 times before they said go out and pick out a new one. That's all I asked for. 6 months no laptop off and on and never worked right. -
In 91 you could have bought a few Buicks for 20K. And both scrapped in 01. I have always bought used, until my new Silverado in 2011. Used cars, trucks, homes even wives and girlfriends. Wait I bought a brand spanking house in 86 that never became a home, forgot that, she got it anyway. 5 days after moving in my Staffordshire jumped on a skunk after I let her out into the yard and that skunk sprayed the dog and kitchen, then she ran upstairs into the bedroom, no more new 5 days later.

How in the Lord's name does a thread on waiting for someone to answer the phone turn into a racial prejudice slash politically correct thing. Chris Berman voice " Come on Man".

Pressure remains constant throughout a system. If ID of a line is reduced velocity increases.
