  1. We finally got a few hours of steady rain for the first time this year. The strangest thing this AM. So we get a few hours of rain last night and at 10 this morning we have 60% green lawn. Next door too. That is strange. It was golden brown yesterday with green patches. We have cut the lawn a grand total of 3 times this year. Because I broke down and bought my wife a new lawnmower that will start on 1 pull.
  2. Brian you are right he launched out of Crystal Beach and was found south of Maitland. I am a no go this week. Need to pack some boxes, actually I will watch my wife pack, and Thursday movers are coming to my parents retirement place to move them back to the place they moved from 4 weeks ago. Oh man. From the reports I have read it's supposed to continue hot and humid. I won't go out until this humidity drops and there is a thermocline to speak of. I think it's a waste of gas when the bottom water temps are the same as the surface 75 feet down. I have never looked forward to a cold front in my life, I am now. This is the first summer since I was a kid that the heat has gotten to me. I started working in the steel plant at 16 on weekends and holidays in High School and that took some getting used to. No child endangerment laws then I guess.
  3. Very nice pics young feller. I like the last pic of the sunrise, the way the light has soaked into the rocks. Your little girl looks like a living doll, thank God she has your wife's features. There is a pond close by that was a quarry. I knew the guy that owned it and he let me fish there when he owned the place. He had been stocking it for 30 years. I took some big fish out of there and my favorite time of day was dawn. Nothing like a cool summers morning watching the sunrise nice hot coffee in hand, screw the fishing. I took a 23" Largemouth out of there on a crankbait. The fish was long but was only 3" wide. It must have been old but it did hit that bait hard. The first and last Crappie I caught there was a good 14" long. I have never seen one before and since. I miss the place. I got chased off by the new owner about 7 years ago. Tried my best to be very nice to the guy but he was a complete jerk off. I was even polite, he told me the same thing 20 times and every time he got louder and louder. I finally told him to stick his pond up his arse you big goof. If you are called a goof in Hamilton the gloves come off tout suite. You want to talk to me like that I can be a jerk too, but even bigger. Country bumpkin goof. I guess someone told him who "I used to be" and he tried to apologize in town once. I accepted it but he's still a goof because he didn't say "sorry come fishing."
  4. I don't want to toot my own horn but the versatility of a Superfisherman is amazing. Every seat can be removed and positioned for all types of boating. Want a Bass boat, put the butt seat on the bow and use it and the rear platform to cast. Fish for pan fish, pop in a seat on the rear platform, remove the casting seat and put a comfy lower passenger seat up front. There is a Bait well which is only a smaller by a touch than a Live well in the rear platform as well as 2 in the bow. I mounted 2 collapsible cup holders for those 2 positions. Want a Bowrider, remove the seat up front. I have a insert that I leave in the floor all the time that makes the bow 100% floor, throw down a blanket or a few blow up rafts and they sun tan all day while I fish . If I want to seat 2 or more up front I remove the floor insert. Remember it is illegal to go faster than no wake speed and have passengers on the front deck of a closed bow pleasure boat without a certain height railing with spindles no less than "X" feet apart. As long as there is enough depth in the bow you can go faster than a crawl with passengers up front, ours is. I don't know that reg. per batum. It looks nice on boat sellers brochures though. Trolling? set a passenger seat on the bow for one fisherman to watch the lines without turning around. Then if only 2 of you leave that seat in and remove the back row of seats so there is enough room to fight and land a fish without tripping over a thing. Want a pleasure boat, leave all 4 seats in. If it's raining put up the full Bimini walk through top. Want to anchor overnight, zip up the camper top with full windows, remove the seats, store up front and blow up the bed in a bag or leave the top down and snooze under the stars. Something many don't consider is leg room at the council. There is enough room under the dash I can store tackle boxes, a cooler and a few misc. bags if I want and still have plenty of leg room. They say about a car the top goes down the price goes up. Opposite for a boat. I need another page to talk about storage. Am I sure I want to sell this? Someone talk me out of it. To replace new with all the stuff I have added is over $60,000.00.
  5. For a 12 foot tinny a good 50 lb thrust and the best battery you can afford will get the job done. If only an electric the battery is the key. For peace of mind any good gas engine up to 9.9 is the choice. Both will troll just fine.
  6. Too dark for a Fallfish, it's a Springer. Hamilton looks like they are loosing another 38-22 BC, 4th quarter, man.
  7. A 19 year old kid from Hamilton drowned this afternoon swimming on the west side of Long Point PP. A 45 year old woman drowned just down the road here Thursday. I never heard a word about that until I just read it. I don't recall the details of the third. Just tragic. The families of those dead must be devastated and always will. My heart goes out to them. I can't seem to paste the link from The Simcoe Reformer. We were just talking today on the Long Point Fishing Forum about the kids playing in the huge breakers this afternoon at Port Stanley beach after a Dad dropped his kids off, he told them not to go in the water after he saw the huge waves. It has been a bad year here for drownings. Just last week a young mans boat washed up on shore on the US side. He launched alone out of Port Maitland. His body was found a few days latter off of Maitland. He was 35 and a very experienced fisherman. No PFD. The call has gone out from locals at Pt. Stanley to have the beach closed when the waves here can match those of any Ocean and people insist on swimming. The local vendors are dead set against it. Those beach combers keep their places open. They only have a few months of revenue. The beach open means their cash boxes are open. The politicians don't want the beaches closed, no way. It's a easy call for me. But I don't run a business there. What's a kids life worth?
  8. Other than some shows on AMC if there are commercials we won't watch it. Favorite summer show would be Ray Donovan. The John Voight character just gets into all manner of zany high jinx, like having fake sex with his dead cell mate to get into protective custody for LGBT prisoners because the Russian Mob is trying to kill him as well as others including his son Ray. Ray has put that hit on hold for now. A PG rating.
  9. At least you got out and nabbed fish. Woke this morning to find what looks like the North Atlantic here not Erie. No fishing today. Walleye tourney at Nanticoke postponed until tomorrow, I doubt much will change then either. Not a good year for catching fish here this year, actually the worse I can remember in 20 years. Water temp75 feet down is 75F!!!!
  10. You don't think the farmers are going to take the hit for the bad crops do you. Some are getting a dismal second cut of hay, some none, therefor milk goes up, some corn and bean fields look like a bomb site, milk and oil goes up. My sis-in-law from Newmarket said the there is huge damage to Onions and Carrots from a hail storm few weeks back. I didn't know almost 100% of these 2 crops are exclusively from Newmarket/Holland Landing for the entire country. I can't wait to see how much they want for veggies this winter. I planted what was supposed to be 3 Beef Steak Tomato plants, turned out they are Cherry tomatoes. Enough for 2 salads if I don't pick one every time I walk by.
  11. Pics, aren't you supposed to be there to protect my pension? They are calling for a load at the screen house. I just realized I have forgotten all the names of the coals. Look for my PM please.
  12. Frank I include you in the "some" reports being civil and informative. Not like the childish antics of our Parliamentarians and far from the carryings on by both the GOP and DNC down there. It's shameful to think prospective leaders as well as sitting Politicos would act like that.
  13. If it brings some rain here I'll take it. With all the deluges around Hamilton the last 2 days we haven't had a drop in Haldimand. There was a grass fire here last week in Hagersville and 2 of our Fire trucks caught fire. They are parked in the yard next to Toronto Motorsport Park ( 2 or more hours from Toronto) and 1 looks to be a write off. There are bean fields turning 2 months early.
  14. That sounds about right Dave. But for some positions that would be like getting hit by a small car over and over for 10 minutes. Not all positions though, that is why certain positions aren't considered to be real ball players. Kickers and Prima Donna receivers that never go over the middle. Some safeties are not respected much either. It's the cheap shot artist spot. New rules on contact on a defenceless player has stopped most of that now. Those are 3 positions guys don't usually get invited to BBQ's.
  15. Go get your engine back. No business is too busy to call a customer back at the end of the day. I have stayed for 3 hours calling customers at the end of the day to keep them in the loop. It's the price you pay for being in business. I really couldn't ask my receptionist to pass on much info as the customer always had questions. But as she became experienced she knew as much or more than I did about the status of a project. Off topic but I learned that that one receptionist 10 yrs ago took a carpentry apprenticeship and is now framing and learning the crew leaders job. A customer would rather be called on a weekend then left hanging. And even a call from our receptionist with some info is better than none. We were in construction and the usual delays were permits and waiting for minor variances. Go get you engine and if you wish to take a ride to Dunnville the guys I know can get it done for you but like everyone has said they are swamped too and may not get to it until Sept. Bur for sure go get your engine, asap.
  16. Call them asap Cliff. My 011 Silverado was the first new vehicle I ever bought for just myself and they covered everything in that truck for 3 years. My AC went out the second summer now that I think of it, they replaced the compressor and something else related no questions asked. One rear speaker was rattling and they replaced it too.
  17. I want my boat trailer lit up like an 18 wheeler. I don't drive much at night anymore but if I do it's generally because I'm heading out early or coming home late with the boat. Why anyone would try to get away with the minimum lighting is beyond me guys. it's not expensive, maybe not cool? I don't know. As far as a light for the plate my tail light/signal assembly on the left side of the trailer has a white light in it to shine on the plate below. The right side does not. I have read that that the plate must be lit in Ontario, I don't know where, it doesn't matter. If it isn't law your going to loose a day of your life telling it to a Judge in some town hours from home because your not getting a ticket where you live you are getting a ticket 8 hours up north. I'm going to ask my pals OPP son when he's home for our Golf Tourney on Labour Day Saturday. Out in the boonies a STOP sign on our side roads and concessions is basically a suggestion, especially at night. A Fisherville stop is looking down the cross road as far as possible both ways and continuing at 100K, maybe slow down to 80, it's scary out here at night. The first time I rode at night with locals it was scary, the guy says as I'm stomping my imaginary passenger side brake pedal as he's doing 110 in a 80 approaching the imaginary STOP " are we good there slicker? Now hand me a beer, my whiskey is good." I swear. Coming across a truck or car load of people, usually kids coming back to the cottage from the bars at 02:30 out in cottage country generally isn't coming home or going to work. This thread actually is reminding me to get strips of some hi tech reflector for the thing. My to do list for the boat is to change out my mini side markers to something that can actually seen other than a little 1" amber marker. I switched to halogen tail lights last fall, big difference. I don't think a trailer can be over lit. I just don't get why you would try to get away with the minimum.
  18. 16 year young Penny Oleksiak wins Olympic Gold for us in the 100 meter freestyle at the Rio pool tonight. And Gold was awarded to the US swimmer Simone Manual as well. A unheard of tie. And the first ever medal awarded to an African American swimmer. That makes 4 medals for Penny I think, Gold, Silver and 2 Bronze. I don't follow woman's swimming but if I'm not mistaken this is HUGE for our country. We aren't known to be a swimming powerhouse in the world. Our water is usually frozen. Michael Phelps just won another Gold in the 200 medley, his 4th in this event in his career, 22 total now for his Gold medals, and 30 minutes latter he swam to a silver. If he had an hour he would have had #23. In the 200 he was actually out if the water resting on the float line before the Bronze medalist touched the wall, 2 seconds behind. He and his wife just had a baby a few weeks ago. The Dr. said to Mom and Dad the baby was perfect, 10 fingers and 10 toes, all webbed. Congrats to Fiji on their Gold metal in 7 mens Rugby. Fiji's first ever medal in the Olympic games. I have no clue what the rules are anymore, it's been 43 years since HS Rugby. What I can't believe the total game is 15 minutes long. 2 @ 7 minute halves. Then they add about a minute and a half at the end of the game. The announcers were commenting that the attendance to the matches were poor. Why would anyone attend a game where you would miss half if you needed a wiz? What I do know if you played American Football for 7 minutes straight some one is going to die, and that's with equipment on. I knew a few guys that played for the Hamilton Hornets, they were nuts. Playing full contact football without a helmet is a sure way to get a bed in a brain injury facility. Those guys are tough buggers. I have always said for years they are much tougher than Football players. I think the average we played on any given play was 5 seconds if I recall. Can someone with Rugby knowledge chime in about the length of play, or lack of it. It's the antithesis of Baseball.
  19. Frank the Rabbit. Unfortunately my quote feature here is no longer do able for me. But I must ask what in Heavens name is that pie chart that you put up on post # 42 supposed to represent. The sub text explaining the chart has to be referring to a different pie. I never wanted an Accounting degree nor was very good at it but if one of our Accountants presented that I would have to question him or her then send them to rehab. What is it supposed to show me? As far as a few comments here I may not agree however some are concise, presented in a clear and civil manner, logical, well thought out, appear not to be a cut and paste made to look as an original opinion, made without malice towards the opposition. So unfortunately a career in Politics is an impossibility for those persons. One such author here is John Bacon. Good work John. I might not agree with the way the numbers are put out there but I appreciate your input.
  20. That would work Dutch. A small dab won't be harsh enough chemical smell.
  21. A little dab will do ya. But I don't like using any chemicals on my tackle. How about a mini plastic band or the smallest electrical tie.
  22. Hi Pete, you are getting some great info here. I redid my trailer 5 years back. I used 2X8 PT for the bunks and wrapped them in a nice commercial grade carpet I sourced from a carpet dealer on Hwy 6 next door to Applegate and James furniture store just north of Caledonia. We have since done 5 re carpets of boats from the same dealer, best prices around and great quality. On the side platforms I used 2x8 PT as well and left them as is. All I did was stapled some cut roofing shingles to make it non slip. It has worked very well. I bucked up and used stainless lag bolts etc. for all the hardware, a few rusted. I brought some pics taken on my phone of them and our local rural Home Hardware gave me replacements no questions asked. Some grinding of rusty spots and a good cleaning then primer and finish with Tremclad (best IMO for touch ups) and the trailer looks fairly new and she's going on 22 years old. Check your roller(s) to ensure they are spinning nice and free. It's a good time to check all hardware and electrical from front to back everything while your at it and replace if needed. Princess Auto has everything you need for a good trailer refurbish. If I bothered to read all your posts you are all done, good job. You must have done that work early in the shade or AC's garage.
  23. I have a StarCraft Superfisherman 190 with a Mariner 115 and a 15 horse matching kicker that I am considering selling. I don't want to deal with prop kickers on Kijiji.
  24. Are you having other problems with your Nissan Rogue Big Cliff? I ask because Ticha's 07 Altima just turned 300,000 K and I know it isn't going to last forever and was considering a Rogue. This Nissan has been the best and most dependable car I have ever owned in the last 45 years. Regular oil and filter, a few batteries, an exhaust pipe and a starter. Brakes of course but nothing like the cars I swear I paid for twice from Audi's to Zephyrs and everything in between.
  25. Steve, that first pic takes fish porn to a new level. I new you would have a good year, unlike us mere mortals. Johnny D
