Trudeau on Rice Lake Tomorrow Friday the 13th
Old Ironmaker replied to esoxansteel's topic in General Discussion
^ exactly H.H. Unions that sprung up after WW2 was a must, not now as they have served their purpose. Most of the work done by the Unions are Health and Safety related more than Labour Relations. We at one time had as many "workers" from across the plant at the Hall as the entire number of workers in my dept. That didn't include H&S reps on steady days in the plant. If they put an entire 8 hours in everyday I would be very surprised. US Steel changed all that. Local 1005's offices are maybe 10% the size now as when they had the Great Hall. They can now hold an executive meeting in an MGB. -
I always thought grilled cheese sangwitches were a slice of that plastic stuff they sell who's only relationship to real cheese is the color and never had one since I was a child. Then a couple of laid off Steelworkers in Hamilton bought a food truck and call it "Gorilla Cheese" get it gerilled cheese.. Had one at a street food fair on Ottawa Street some years ago and my interpretation of grilled cheese changed after 1 bite. Not great for the belly or heart but I now we love a good grilled cheese and soup for breakfast, lunch or supper. No fake Kraft slices ever. They were on Dragon's Den but didn't get any money. They wanted to open a bricks and mortar place that wouldn't fly according to the Dragons because of costs and limitation of market. They never did open one.

Not every CO knows the regs. completely, or they interpret them differently than other CO's. Just like every Cop doesn't know every law they are enforcing. That's why we have nearly 1 lawyer for every 10 citizens within a 45 minute drive of our county.

A question about transporting game fish.
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
I am sure I read that if not in possession of a license the limit for a non licensed individuals limit is a conservation limit not a sportsmans limit. If I was stopped and had a limit of fish under my conservation license which I have I could say I don't have a license and be OK with more fish. No? -
All the purely fishing sites I belong to have threads 3 months apart, and posts further apart. That's really interesting. You guys that are purists should join them. Niagarafishing.net for example. There are threads on the first page from June, but it's all fishing. Enjoy.

Who is Cliff? Like I said Art I am very defensive. Trump won with the most outrageous things ever said in a public forum, even recorded. O'Leary will win if he runs. I'll take that wager. Moma needs a new kitchen, shoes she has.

A question about transporting game fish.
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
You are right Fisherman except the "exporting" word, I take exporting is taking fish out of Province. There was an issue years back when my relatives tried to cross the US border with anOnt. limit which was different than a NY limit. No problem today, you can't take 1/2 a samich across. It was about a non license holder "transporting" fish. I am under the impression that "possession" would include transporting them. A different situation as far as possession goes. I presume my non licensed room mate can have a conservation limit of gamefish next to mine in the freezer. That was something else than came up. Not an issue after the dismal season of 2016 though. No one I know has that problem this winter. -
Dara, you lost me when you said a Politian takes the "best interests of the country and the people involved". When will that be kicking in I wonder? If it will be profitable to spend on social programs he would. Someone profits building new schools, hospitals, community centres, health clinics, new transportation systems, public infrastructure and the list goes on. Working people pay taxes, many of those not working need public funds to live. Therein spending on social programs can be profitable in a myriad of ways.
-
I added to the post saying he might have changed. Art my statements were not as much opinion as fact, first hand experience. I don't see where it was a personal attack on Don Cherry or O' Leary. I am probably wrong. The statements Arlene Dickinson made are what I would call a personal attack. Statements where because of the public forum she spoke in her personal opinion may be deemed legally damaging to his reputation. PM me and explain to where I was out of line. Or share it here, that way we can all see what you deem a personal attack. I need to re read my post closely. Heck you might not even be referring to me, I can be so defensive. When we were kids and a Cop stopped us we would say "we didn't do it" Do what?
-
I thought maybe everyone stopped cooking. Try the soup Rick, I'm sure the kids will whack it out. Not expensive either, Gotta love that part. I don't think the whole pot was more than 10 bucks. Bread is probably the most expensive part of the meal.
-
That is good to hear Rick. He sure didn't act like that around the hired help. His mother was still alive then and living not 10 minutes from the bar. He barked at one of the production crew once telling them to take his Mom a meal from the kitchen to her at home. The guy said he was busy setting up and would do it as soon as he was done. He was fired on the spot in front of everyone. He came back a few shows latter though. I am really glad to hear he was good with you kids, that's the most important thing, how he treated the kids. That would have been around 15 or so years latter, I hope he had changed and maybe he did. I have to say good for him.

Wowza, she sure didn't pull any punches. Me thinks that Kevin isn't on Arlene's Christmas card list. You don't usually read such honest statements from one co worker about another in such a public forum, Wowza again. I still think he will win though. He probably would be the best Minister of Finance this country has ever seen but no way he is a guy that is going to answer to anyone. It killed him answering to the executives at Mattel when he had to stay on for a year or so in order for his software sale of a billon dollars to close. It drove him nuts. His book is an easy read. I recommend it strongly. "KEVIN O'LEARY, THE COLD HARD TRUTH on Business, money & life." Published by Doubleday books Canada. Hey I just noticed mines autographed, it might be worth something someday. It was a gift from my Sis in Law. There's even a pic of her and he. His hand is behind her in a very strategic position. Usually I pass hard cover books on but it was a gift so I didn't. I need to re read it.

I went back 7 pages and can't seem to find the old recipe thread started by M2B2 a few years ago. If someone does bump it please. It's good to read it and try a few. Made what we call in the Family "Beans and Greens" which is nothing more than bean soup with greens. It takes minutes not hours if you use canned beans which isn't against the law. Dry beans are much more economical and better. Toast some garlic, whole, crushed or sliced. Usually the rule of thumb for browning anything is hot pan, hot oil and brown whatever. Garlic is so easy to burn. I found the best way to toast garlic to a nice golden brown is cold pan, cold oil add garlic and then turn on the burner to medium and watch closely. Once browned remove it and add latter or quickly add whatever so it doesn't go beyond golden brown. Toast 3 or 4 cloves of garlic in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, (EVO) Then add hot chili flakes to taste. Slowly add stock, be careful pot is hot and adding too fast will cause a splash back of hot oil. Tilting the pot away from you is a good tip when adding liquid to a hot pot. Add whatever beans you want. Dry Navy beans soaked over night is traditional, cheaper and better for you. I used 2 cans of $$ store mixed beans and a can of Navy beans for about 1.5 lts of chicken stock. Use your favorite beans, it doesn't matter. Another tip, open cans from the bottom, you get 100% of whatever is in a can of anything especially canned beans. I don't rinse them. Lots of flavour in the stuff at the bottom of a can. Some cans won't open from the bottom. Bring to a boil and simmer until beans are done. The dry beans need time to get soft, canned are already soft. Wash and cut up a bunch of greens. My favorite is Rapini or Swiss Chard. You can use anything like spinach including Romaine lettuce. Just remember it will cook down to about 10% of it's raw volume. Always looks way too much. Don't be afraid to use all the stalk. No reason not to. Mom says the stalks may be too bitter, I disagree but won't tell her that. Your done. Traditionally a piece of toasted day old bread is toasted and laid into a bowl, then ladle the soup on top. I will cook separately Pastina, Acini de Pepe (micro pipes), mini stars or elbow macaroni and put that on the bottom of the bowl, now you have a type of Pasta Fagioli. I always add to much pasta in a pot and it soaks up all the liquid, no good. Drizzle with EVO and add grated parm or similar cheese. Make some garlic bread or whatever type of toast. I'll cut up leftover meat and add it towards the end. My favorite is to add cut up sausages. I will pre cook a few just for this. I added sliced pork chops we had this time. Chicken, anything really. It should take you longer to prep than to cook unless dried beans. Fast, good, healthy and economical meal. A bonus too, 1 pot cooking. Eat and fa cresece. (Ketchinany if you are reading, please give me a spelling lesson.) This is a thick soup, add more stock or even water to thin it to taste. I will add water. There is enough flavor in this soup to handle it. In fact you can use water rather than stock, just simmer it longer. Many soups are started with water. I do not recommend freezing it. Something happens to the greens and whatever it is I don't like the texture and taste once frozen. If I told my Mom this was Beans and Greens she'd slap me, and tell me my Noni is rolling in her grave. I can't get it like Mom did and my Uncle still does so I don't try anymore and get disappointed. I need to get to New York and watch Uncle Angelo do it the way I had it as a kid.

We had the winter get together for all the members at our small marina yesterday. A question came up that we couldn't come up with a definitive answer. Is it legal for someone that does not have a fishing licence to transport gamefish in Ontario? I can give anyone without a fishing license gamefish can they take them home with them? I say yes, it's only logical, but the word logical usually doesn't apply in Ontario. Nothing referring to this on page 9 under the title "Transporting Fish in Ontario".

Cottage rental, trailer, camping? And when? Obviously after the end of June if you go after Bass. I found it tough when we rented to find a good cottage if not booking for the entire week in the summer, but they are out there if you look close enough. Sometimes we would book the entire week and it was less than booking by the night at the same place and would offer the balance to a friend or relative for cheap. More than once another couple would come up and the ladies would spend a night or 2 and drive back together then buddy and I would fish together for the rest of the week then head home. That worked out perfect. Knowing what accommodations you need and when would help us steer you in the right direction Korber. The choices are endless 4 hours from you in Ontario. We are in the best area in the entire World to choose from for a fishing get away. The best.

I think Canadians will follow suit with how the US voted. More than vote in Trump they voted out the Washington establishment. If O'Leary wins the nomination he will be the next Prime Minister of Canada. There are a uh, a uh few uh members here that uh can uh beat uh Jr. That uh is getting embarrassing. More name dropping, I got to know him a bit over a few cold ones after the shows in the 80's when I worked security for the Don Cherry Show filmed at his restaurant on Walnut and Main in downtown Hamilton. He ran the film crew and had a head full of hair. It took me a long time to realize it was him until I read his book. He was much nicer than Don Cherry, The Grapes we see on TV is a character he made up for TV. If you weren't one of his guests or one of the young models standing there he wouldn't give you the time of day. The brunette is my ex.

I see the "kids" are older than a bucket of minnows will keep them interested. Flying a kite is a fantastic idea. I might bring one for me when we go next month. What about bringing one of those remote control cars to fly around the ice. I don't know if the other people out there may enjoy the sound or will the fish under the ice. Nope, terrible idea, better bring a nice quiet kite.

Boat safety: importance of lief jackets (video)
Old Ironmaker replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
You don't get on my boat without a PFD. I bought an extra inflatable for 100 bucks and my 1st mate wears it or stays home. Simple as that. I don't know how many times I have challenged guys to swim 100 yards for 100 bucks after they say "I can swim". Yea right, from 1 end of the pool to the other, once. Those guys were lucky that boat didn't swerve back to the left, they were right beside the Port side. They would have been hamburger. I wonder if the driver had the lanyard on? I am forgetful hooking mine up at top speed. I looked back at the video, it sounds like the engine shut down. Hook up your lanyard, a good habit. A bit of a pain when fishing but a good habit to have. -
Is racism isn't against the law in Canada? It's not in the USA. From Nazi's to White Supremists they are all allowed to express their their opinion. They can't infringe on someone's rights. I recall years ago the teacher out west preaching racism in his class. There was a court case. I know he got fired but can't remember much after that. I don't know about this Human Rights Tribunal thing. He didn't deny anyone's rights he said he would. I don't think there is such a thing as conspiracy to commit racism. He is an idiot though, not against the law either. I remember now, the teacher was saying the Holocaust was a hoax.

I can't cut and paste, still after installing Chrome. UGGGG. Google "what's the definition of a firearm in Canada?" It is fairly clear, has a barrel and can propel a projectile that can cause bodily harm. That is fairly clear. The RCMP can change legislation now? They are the enforcement branch I thought not the legislative branch. I'm not saying they don't have a hand in drafting the law, they don't make them just enforce them. I have been told that a few times by Johnny Law.

Great day you had with an old pal Cliff, and the bonus was you took home some nice fish.

We all know what goes on at Area 51. I saw Independence Day. Not Independence Day 2, that was pure fiction. -
It will do much more damage than a 22 at close range. Ever heard of taking a Buffalo down with a 22? Yes with more velocity than 450 fps you need an FAC. There are air guns out there that fire at far higher speeds. I think there was a thread here about them a few years back. It showed a video taking down a small Deer with .177 air caliber pellet. To answer the question of is it a gun I found on the RCMP website anything with a barrel that can fire a "projectile" that can cause bodily harm is considered to be a Fire Arm. So it has a barrel and can fire a projectile that can cause bodily harm. Of course I can't cut and paste here anymore. Time to get Google Chrome?

At first I read " MNR SIZE Huts on Nipissing". What do they care what size a hut is?

OhioFisherman. And 11 million people just in Buckeye country is 1/3 the total population of all of Canada. No wonder our taxes here are ridiculous.
