The original 5 of Diamonds was made by Eppinger. My #1 go to bait for spring Pike is a "Dare Devil" made by Eppinger as well. Red and white with chrome back. The other is the "Red Devil" from I forget. I have many I forget lures these days. I'll go look. Spinner Baits second choice. Working the weed line to a deep water point. Work all elevations up and down the drop off. They will suspend anywhere on the drop off. I find they hit on the first small action after the pause. Sometimes a quick twitch after the pause and pause again like an injured baitfish moves when injured. In the early spring we used to use whole frozen lake Smelts. I think any Smelt is illegal to use now. They were killers as you could cast them easily as well. If all fails a good sized live minnow on a good balsa float deep into the weeds to entice them out to the edge/. Only a live bait if someone or I want to keep a Pike for the table. Nothing like a good solid spring Pike in a Brandy and tomato sauce with Capers and Spagettini. When targeting Pike I think the presentation is as or more important than the lure choice, when they are hitting post spawn they hit.

Need a battery and charger. Recommendations Please.
Old Ironmaker replied to rhymobot's topic in General Discussion
I don't know if it's worth the drive from Brampton to Hamilton for you but ACME Battery has the best prices in Ontario for a good quality battery. It is just off the QEW on Parkdale Ave, North. My $230.00 OEM truck battery was $99.99 at ACME, same exact battery. The guy in their warehouse showed me right down to the smallest detail on my old battery. In batteries like most everything out there is you get what you pay for, except for ACME. Not the same company Willey Coyote gets his stuff from. I have had my CTC Nautilus smart charger for 7 years now, never a problem. I'm not a big CTC/Motomaster fan. I needed 1 that day and bought it. The feature I like is it will tell you when the battery is pooched. I paid 75 bucks on sale that day. -
The original 5 of Diamonds was made by Eppinger. My go to anytime Pike lure is the " Dare Devil" also made by Eppinger in red and white. Not to be confused by the red and white "Red Devil" made by "I can't remember". I have many of those brand lures now.

I never had the pleasure of meeting this special lady personally but was blessed to be able to know her a bit through our PM's about Artwork, especially her passion for Japanese fish Art. And if I got out of line here she let me know it. I have 3 paintings on the go that are based on her magnificent photos. Finishing them is on the top of my list. My wife doesn't read our board but knew exactly who Joey is through her Artwork that Ticha has on her Pinterest page. When I told her this morning about her passing she was shocked like us all. She has touched so many people she had never met nor spoke to through her Art. She has left a legacy very few of us will ever have left. This is a sad day beyond explanation. Our Sunshine Girl will shine on for eternity. Is there something we as a group can do to honour her memory? Any suggestions fellow OFC ers?

Who's keeping a Musky? Mmmmmm, Musky. If you have the catch limit of any species of fish, and they are all dead can I keep fishing for that species? I say no. If 1 is alive I can cull it.

This is shocking. My Lord this is the worst news. A talented woman that exuded positivity and passion in her Art and especially her Family. Paul our deepest condolences.

Cliff are you sure those beaked hooks aren't small Circle hooks? If you try and set the hook the hook just comes right out. Hard to get used to NOT setting a hook after all these years.

Art, they still sell AAV's here but that doesn't mean it's to code. And they are tricky to get to work if there isn't enough height above the trap. We have done a few on old cabins and cottages where there was not a stack, grey water just dumped outside onto wherever when the grey water bed plugged. My next door neighbours cottage still doesn't have a stack for his bathroom going into a 60 year old septic tank, how it drains is a mystery to me. The septic tank I dug up here was an old oil drum. I am picturing something that I have seen done to tie into tight stacks. Both ends have a slide up/down compression coupling. Am I dreaming or have I seen one? I think it was a tie into old cast iron pipe.

I too try to switch browser to Chrome on the advice of many here because I can't even cut and paste here let alone use the quote feature for some reason after they did a Win 10 update a few months ago. I couldn't even get it to load. My sis-in-law, our family computer Guru, loaded it for me. Before she left I asked hr to switch back to whatever it is I have, Explorer I think. I couldn't even get a page here to load properly and it was slow as molasses plus many other sites started going wonky. So I am going to live with it for now. My head is ready to blow up thinking about trying something else. One person loves Fire Fox the next person says don't even think about it. I know what a V-8 is, no such thing as a V-9.

I don't disagree Akri. I am talking a picture too if in season if a personal best, for sure, I'm being the messenger here. A CO that busts you for it is on a power trip and I bet a Judge would agree. I would take it to court for sure.

You are off to a great fishing year Old Timer. A 1 fish day is well worth it if it's a first or personal best. I don't get the part about not having to go into work. You slacking off? Come on Cliff we need a few more AARP members. We do like pics. If only I can figure out how to post them from my Photobucket to here. I've tried believe me. I know you have too. We both attended the same computer classes. I actually did in 1975, look at me now. I have only seen 1 Ling pulled through a hole. I jumped back and nearly fell out of my seat too. I had for a second thought it was the baby Alien coming out of the guys gut in the movie. I've said it before here that years ago a Nipissing local told me if you buy Scallops in a North Bay restaurant it's most likely Ling. They only use the loin. I hope they taste better than they look. I love Lobster, who in their right mind think about eating one of those ugly things? History tells us they were treated as garbage fish and were given to prisoners in New England. The more the prisoners complained the more they were given. Let us know how it tastes. And a big way to go again Sir Perch Master.
-
If in doubt tell the CO you were fishing for Perch after heaving out one of those massive Musky bricks you nuts use!! I have been told by a CO you can angle for them but they must be released immediately. I was always under the impression with a Con. licence possession is zero, not 1. I don't know where TJames copied that quote from. Immediately to me means right away, no picture taking, measuring, admiring. If I recall a few Pro's making a TV show were charged for taking a picture of a out of season Bass. I don't know about reviving it in a livewell. I wouldn't even bring it onboard. On my Musky charter any smaller fish that wasn't going to be photographed Dan Columby de hooked the fish in the net and released it from the net without touching the fish. One fish that was hooked deep he cut the hook off with bolt cutters and let it slide out of the net.

I understand now, not enough play in the stack to slide the "T" into it. Use a Fernco. The Air admittance valve replaces the need for a vent/stack. It goes on a riser you install on the drain/waste line. Perfectly legal in Ont.

^ that is a good one Dave. I have self deleted what I just wrote. It was political.
-
Everything is a political statement today, including the SB commercials yesterday according to the Whitless House. This is NOT a political statement that I am sneaking into a OFC thread, it may be alternate truth however.

It sure is a Zoo at Hoovers and yes that free steel dock at Maitlland can put a nice dent on your boat especially if the wind is up. For that reason I go to Fishmaster's up river a few miles. I saw a boat slide off the trailer 4 feet from the water. The guy had put that slippery plastic stuff on the bunks like Fish Farmer has and unhooked before he was in the water, I learned a good lesson that day. They sure are slippery. He snapped the bottom end off his new Yamaha and tore the transom off the boat. Man I felt for the poor guy.
-
A Fernco will do it but I don't see why you just don't put in a solid "T" if you can cut into the stack, I'm missing something. An Air Admittance Valve may solve a tough venting issue. That's what we used for kitchen islands that couldn't be vented through the floor. A nice bar by the way.

Beaverton hut operator Bombardier went through the ice!
Old Ironmaker replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
You and I must know the same guy Dan. If he isn't going 140KPH on land, ice or sea he isn't going fast enough, he is actually a dangerous guy and I refuse to drive in a car with him. I don't think he will die of old age. But I have told him if he takes out an innocent person some day I will personally dole out some justice. As far as an investigation maybe the OPP did talk to Hale's. I just don't see the MNR being involved here. I know Hale's wouldn't have anything to hide, there reputation is very good based on what I have read. -
Yes Grimsby, I have seen it and the organization of those involved is fantastic, even the amateur tourneys like the 444 it goes like clock work. But these guys launch almost everyday not once a week or a few times a month. The more you practice the luckier you get. The best ramp is at North Erie Marina in Pt. Bruce. You are in and out in no time, 1 worker gets in the water and pulls your boat to the dock, a second person follows you to the parking lot in the Golf cart and gives you a ride back to the launch. By the time you get back the next boat in line is in the water and the guy in the Golf cart follows him etc. Smooth operation. These guys know the faster in and out the more money they make. Most marinas are there to take your money and that's as far as they go.

Dara, there really isn't much to investigate. The machine hit a crack and broke through the crack and or got hung up on it. Was there operator error? Mechanical error? Was the operator under the influence at the time? The purpose of any investigation is to determine the root cause or causes and then make recommendations in an effort to ensure it doesn't happen again. Not much to investigate here. -
For entertainment get a table on the deck at Hoover's Marina in Nanticoke on any weekend. Prime time is on the Sunday of the Pottahawk bash weekend watching hung over boaters try and retrieve their big Go Fast boats. One youngster put a 15 foot long gouge in his shiny Cigarette boat. His buddy says "your father is gonna kill you", he replied "he doesn't know I took the boat", ouch. I am still seething about that ramp, I go and park the trailer and my wife (her 1st time putting the boat in) who I left on the dock is holding the bowline, the boat is now on the opposite side of the dock with the engine against the shore, lucky it was grass and not a wall. There are at least 6 guys standing there holding their drinks watching her struggle and a restaurant patio full of people 25 feet away. I ripped into those guys and they slithered away. My fault 100% for not tying off the boat myself and shouldn't have put her in that situation on a weekend. I was wrong thinking she would tie off the lines. I was in a hurry too. So the moral of this story is to make sure you and the 1st mate know what each have to do and know how before launching and don't be in a hurry launching a boat. What is an extra 5 minutes to the guy waiting? I have seen fisticuffs over 5 minutes at that ramp. Hoovers Marina has the worse launch in our area and it is the most expensive too. Besides the idiots, yes me too that day, those steel docks will leave a mark on the boat if you aren't holding the boat, they don't even have cleats or rings to tie off to just steel posts. Terrible, ask Fish Farmer. Eh Dave?

The machine looks to be 1/2 under water from the few pics. The person that was in the machine said his stuff sunk to the bottom. I consider that to be more than hung up Sinker. You are right about the Natural Resources folks investigating. For what? Maybe a fuel and oil spill if there was any but other than that what's to investigate? No personal injury or major water contamination thankfully. -
Absolutely priceless Ron. She's a keeper and a cutie patootie. Why that hat though?

I'm not in favour of legislating small businesses out of business but in a case such as this I recommend that all operators install these inflatable bags on these big heavy machines. They most likely saved a life here. As driving down a highway at 100 KPH is deemed to be safe accidents happen that many times result in fatality and thus we are always looking to improve highway safety by engineering safety features in automobiles and in the construction of roadways. If driving on an ice covered body of water can be made safer I'm all for it. -
If that place was The Mo Z On Inn, I was never there either a few times. What was the name of the place downtown, dancin' girls during the day and a singles bar at night that I was never in either if the weather blew us off the lake during the day. I have some Bear Creek pictures but they are either faded or are in black and white.
