  1. Thanks for the interesting report Chris. It makes me think back 30 years ago, here you guys spend 40 minutes to do the right thing for the little guy and we were going around the plant spraying nesting bird eggs with windshield washer anti freeze with the full support of the MNR and MOT. That was when the Canada Goose population was exploding in urban areas and was effecting aviation corridors to what is now John C. Munro Airport in Hamilton. Nice fish, the boat has been pointed towards Lake O and Erie for 3 weeks, there is so much water under it in the yard I can cast from where it sits. Rain, rain go away, please.
  2. Welcome aboard. I understand Akri's point of view but your question sits well with me. I have fished many times in that area years ago. End of Sept beginning of Oct. Bass were the target not Musky, and they are there if you know how to find them. That area in the fall with all the colours has to be one of the most beautiful spots in the entire globe. If fishing wasn't hot I just took out the 35MM and took in the scenery. I personally wouldn't fish that area solo, ever, even if I thought I knew it like the back of my hand, no one really can. I have taken a few layers of varnish off those old Powassan wood 18 footers in that area. Find a partner to fish with is my recommendation 110%. If you do decide to take it on alone I recommend a PFD be worn at all times and you have some means of communication if things go array, and they can fast.
  3. My Humminbird 5somethingCDI works on my buddies boat and his unit is 8 years older. Try it, then you will know for sure.
  4. Long woolen underwear is prerequisite safety clothing 12 months a year working around he Blast Furnaces to stay cool. Guys I showed my Cosmetologist wife the muffs online. They are only PF40 which I thought was fine, she said minimum is PF60. So lather up under them as well. When we were beach bums we slathered on Baby Oil and Coconut butter to cook our skin. Many of my pals who hung out in the 70's and 80's now have skin cancer. A very high percentage of Pro golfers from that era as well have skin cancer. No one protected themselves, not even hats. I have brown spots on my temples, back of my neck and cheeks that have come out the size of quarters in the last few years. Not good. Cover up while you still can.
  5. Great intro Eric, very good. Most just 1st post "where are the best spots?" I think Cornwall would be a great place to fish. I never have but have been through there and thought it looked great. I do fish on the other side of the river in NY, beautiful country. Mike will lead you in a good direction.
  6. You had an apartment and a duffel bag plus pots and pans? Must be nice. I used to eat out of old Jiffy Pop tin plates, and cook on them if I had something to cook. You Kids were spoiled.
  7. Looks similar to my vent James. Like any common vent valve it will open fully under X amount of pressure and close to normal position again. The fuel system has to be vented or you will never fill the tank. Mine was plugged up and I couldn't fill the tank with fuel properly.
  8. Not just pets. Anyone walking in high grass and bush should look closely for ticks that want a ride after your hike. On a local Talk Radio a lady from the Heath Dept was on telling everyone to check their kids and themselves as well as pets for ticks after just walking in the park. Buddy got 3 on his calf last spring on the golf course and my wife got 1 on her abdomen a few years ago doing spring clean up on our property.
  9. They still do out here in Haldimand. It's cheaper to leave crap behind than to rent a truck and pay by the kilo to dump it at land fill even when the landlord holds back security. It happened to me before I sold a rental property 25 years ago in Hamilton's North end. The guy was a crap picker it cost me twice the security deposit to haul it away. I was actually there when he gave me the key back and I asked him what about that yard full of crap, he laughed, told me to keep the security and begged me to slap him. I really can't believe I didn't 25 years ago. The start of my enlightened journey from the dark side
  10. I don't have one T.L. does and it won't start so I sell her that one for a hundred.
  11. Good score. My wifes mower that was new last April won't start today. I have never seen a mower without a manual choke or primer. I hop she can get it running before this grass grows any higher. I will need to get her a goat. I bet it has a 1 year warranty. How much do you really want for it Lucas? You aren't far from me. I'll give you 50 bucks for driving it from work to home and delivering it to the lake.
  12. I have found if the tank was 100 filled in the Fall before storing when the temps go up in the spring expansion will cause some fuel to leak out the vent, sometimes if it gets really warm it can spirt out the vent as well. Air it out and see if it dissipates. If not follow our automotive Guru DanD's advice and take it to your auto mechanic for a leak test.
  13. Can't eat or drink with them on? I found out what bugs really were like last May in the PAB region, I never have seen anything like them in 62 years. Wow. My 35 year old mesh bug hat worked very well not too cool looking. 10 guys sitting at a table eating with bug nets on is a strange sight. I also find it hard to understand what someone is trying to say when they have a buff on. Like "Watch out for the rocks!!"
  14. Thanks G. Mech. A good read. Anyone that boats in Erie or any large lake should read that. When I see dark skies over NY and Ohio we hightail it back to port in sunny skies. Often by the time we hit shore we are in following 2 meter waves. Not fun in a 19 footer. I cring when I see boats much smaller than mine 10 miles out. I want to see 3 day forecasts before I pick my day.
  15. Water levels here on Erie are a bit higher, I'm only talking a few inches more here than they have been the last 5 springs. No ice thaw to effect levels if ice actually does just rain. I always wondered how much water the people in control of he Falls on both sides to control levels throughout the Great Lakes. There have been years here, usually in the Fall, where we wake to see almost 2 feet of wet green rocks above yesterdays waterline. There is a strong lunar tide that effects Erie but not sure how strong to drop water up to 2 feet overnight. That's a lot of water that went somewhere.
  16. I swear I saw a boat called "The Arc" go by on Lakeshore Dr. Waves are pounding so hard today they are breaking on the patio door, it rains here when it's cloud free. Mallards are nesting in the old tennis court.
  17. Little Rock Lake just north of PAB off 69 for opener. I met these guys through my brother last year, they took good care of this old guy. They asked that I make Ragu sauce again, must of liked it.
  18. There are some big Smallies on Erie Rick, very big. Last year was the first time I have seen Gar Pike spawn here in what we call the aquarium. Similar to how Carp do it, they spawn out front/back too. Several males squeeze the eggs from a single female. Looked like a gaggle of snakes. I'm sure a group of snakes isn't a gaggle. What is a group of snakes called? Learned last night on Jeopardy a group of Cats is a clowder, who knew.
  19. I know a neighbour of ours who's wife said that he committed suicide by stabbing himself, 7 times. She was acquitted because of years of spousal abuse which was a new defence back then.
  20. She's not getting 15 mil from me. Do you mean from the news source? The Boston news said his death will save the taxpayers over 3 million if he served 40 years. His family Lawyer is insinuating today he was murdered. His family is looking for millions from the Patriots for wrongful dismissal. He was not convicted of anything when they cut him after signing a huge 4 year deal, 40 mil I think, good luck. The family of Oden Lloyd the semi pro ballplayer he was convicted of murdering is looking for a 6 million dollar payday from his estate.
  21. Off topic. Dave there is a war ragging and has been for a few years between the Hastings drive locals, the Ministry of Everything, the local municipality, Perch charter guys and those that lost their cottages in the big storm. They have come to blows outside of City Hall. What a mess. Go to the Simcoe Reformer and Google Hastings/Long Point. Property issues bring out the worst in people.
  22. I wouldn't leave the dock without GPS. Saved us from disaster once coming in when the fog was as thick as Pea soup. I didn't take a compass heading. As far as wiring to the DC battery you guys are right, mine goes to my cranking battery. No interference on my front sonar that is strapped to the prop. I never use it anyway, I call front mount trolling motors Hood Ornaments for the type of fishing we do 90% of the time. For others it is a must have and I get that.
  23. We watch Smallies spawn and then guard the beds from the deck. I can tell you even though I am not a Marine Biologist Smallmouth feed while guarding the beds. I can even tell you when, early AM and early evening. They will scoop up bugs on the water surface as well as minnows, they will chase them until the minnows beach themselves. I don't know what expert said they don't feed during post spawn guarding beds. They can sit on beds for more than 2 weeks. Nothing will survive not eating for that long. They torpedo Carp that come anywhere near the beds, as well as smaller Bass that want to take the bed over for themselves. It's neat to see this each and every year. Students from Brock came out one year and filmed the spawn and post spawn. I lost the videos they shot. I could write a short book describing what I have seen including trying to sway the ladies to their "bed", 2 at a time sometimes. Then they do the dance. Some of those females are 7 pound plus size fish. Once the females are spawned out hey sit on it's side on the bottom and look dead. You can reach down and pick them up which I did when I thought one fish was dead. My bad, I am glad they only look dead, that fish went 6 pounds at least.
  24. When is the next Leaf game?
  25. Glad you got back safe and sound, stopped by a few weeks ago to say hi and didn't see you around. We will be seeing you Sunday Steve. Do you have any of your secret stinky bait left? I'll remember my net this time. Johnny D
