I took my kids down yesterday with the GO Train, another great option, 2 kids free and daddy forked out $13 for the round trip. The setup with the shuttle bus or the 10 minute walk is just dumb. The venue is all wrong for this type of show but that is just my opinion. It was cool to see the Canadian Forces setup and that was the type of 50cal rifle that the Canadian sniper made the 2.4km shot to kill a Taliban fighter with an American teflon coated bullet (he ended up leaving the Forces over the crap he got into for using American ammunition, our snipers were sent over with very little or no ammo and had to borrow from our allies there). Go figure. I've heard stories of patrols going out with only 10 rounds of 50cal per machine gun or having none at all. It goes to show the commitment and dedication our troops have and I am proud of them, however our government and top echelons of the forces need to address some of these supply problems. We have been in Afganistan for years now, these types of problems should not be happening. I'm not trying to highjack this thread but I am venting. As for deals, I picked up a Barbie fishing rod with the handle that lights up for my youngest for $12.63from LeBaron's which was an incredible price compared to the $20 another retailer wanted. For myself, I picked up a Nautilus manual inflatable PFD for $99 from Lakeview Marine. They purchased a huge amount earlier this year and have been blowing them out. They also had props on for $65 from a discontinued line and I'm going to do some homework on that one to see if it would be worth it. I saw the new GLoomis Walleye GLX rod and fell in love, what a sweet rod but for $399, I can't justify it. Maybe one day when I grow up.

I wonder if the sniper rifle is the 50cal? If so, that is what one of our snipers took out a Taliban rocketeer with at something like 3 kms away. It was the record distance kill by a sniper.

If they stay up the Eastern side of Beausoliel Island in the back channels and bays they will be fine. The open water is a different story. It can be downright scary if the wind picks up. It all depends where they plan on boating to and from. If they are on the leeward side of the prevailing winds (westerly)they should be ok. We need some more info. I boat on GBay and know the waters fairly well so more info would be great and maybe we can help some more. BTW, that boat looks decent.

I picked up a Wally World dual purpose starting/deep cycle for my TM last year and it worked great, at the end of the season I picked up a Walleye 1 deep cycle for a hundred bucks and it worked great, I trolled for 2 days on them and they did not go flat. Wait for Canadian Tire to put their 'Intelligent' chargers on special. Supposedly, they will automatically analyze the condition of the battery and charge it accordingly taking the guess work out on your part. They are even supposed to help bring sulfated batteries back to life (a bad battery is still a bad battery).

Can't go wrong with a Honda. My f-in-law had a Yammie 650 quad and it was awesome to blast around on the logging and mining roads out Kenora way. ENJOY!!! When I was a kid I had a Honday XR100 that I kicked the snot out of and it never quit. Jeez, I miss riding.........Now to convince the missus that I need a Harley.....

Suuuuuwwwwwweeeeett!!!! Very nice ride. That's daddy's dream boat!!! One day when I grow up.............

Check the regs. I don't think Musky is open the first week of June up on the Spanish River. I think the season opens the 3rd Saturday of June. If they aren't open, don't worry, I'm sure the walleye and pike will keep you busy.

Regular gasoline has 10 percent ethanol in it now, it is pretty much standard. ANYTHING that will be left sitting for more than a month with fuel in it should have some stabilizer added to it to prevent phase separation. Once that happens, the fuel is garbage. Canadian Tire has the big jug of Stabil Marine formula on for $18 and change this week. Grab some and use it. I do.

Man oh Man!! There is no end to this!! I grew up panfishing Rice Lake. Setting a limit of 300 fish is nuts and a waste of time. The Rice lake Tourist Association needs a reality check. How many Americans actually come up to take home 300 sunfish?? The real problem is the high Canadian loonie coupled with a persistent recession in the U.S. Americans can't afford to come up here like they did a few years ago when the loonie was at 65 cents to the greenback. Unfortunately for the Canadian tourist trade, we hosers would rather go spend 800 loonies to go down to Cuba for a week in the winter then spend the same amount to rent a cottage for a week in the summer. It is too bad. Trying to change the government's mind on something WITH Scientific Facts backing you up is difficult enough, not having facts backing you up...........you are wasting your time and energy. Focus on saving your business, if it is not worth saving then just close the door and cut your losses. Times have changed, change with them or get left behind.

There's the fixin's for a few mama, papa, and uncle burgers!!! -
Unfortunately, you probably broke something in your reel. If you force something that does not want to engage it will break. You can try asking around. Good luck.

The French River is more like a lake than a river, it is over 60 miles long. You need a boat most definitely.

Canada's last First World War veteran dies at 109

May he Rest In Peace. As for a state funeral, I don't know about that, but definitely the GG should attend his funeral. 16 years old joining the military to fight in France for someone else's war...... Goes to show how patriotism is lacking here now. It is the end of an era, kids will never hear about what it was like to fight in the trenches in France and Belgium where Canada truly became a nation and a force to be reckoned with. May we never see something like that again. -
You could look at some outfitters North of Sault Ste Marie but it'll be about 9-10 hours from London. The French River would be a good bet at about 5-6 hours or so. There's walleye, bass, pike, muskie, and smaller fish in there. I'm not sure if bass and muskie will be open whenever you come up in June but walleye and pike will be.

Everyone's action is different. H for one company might feel like an XH with another company and a MH with yet another company. It all depends on what you want to do with the rod. 8'6" XH should be good for tossing BullDawgs, big double Cowgirls, Believers, etc... Doing your Figure 8 at boatside is easy too and you can get the rod right into the water. You'll like the rod as long as you pair it with a good reel. Whatever you do, don't cheap out on a muskie reel, cheap reels will break at the most inopportune of times. BassPro has the Pete Maina reels which are pretty decent especially for the price now I think they are on for 69.99.

GOOD FOR YOU!! Now the question is, are you going to open your own little shop or are you going to continue working for someone else and do the odd side job?? Best of luck to you! -
It all depends on how old the kids are, if they are really young, all day hardcore fishing trips are not really in the books. From Redden's, there is a nice little beach, Rushing River Provincial Park is nearby and it is really pretty. There is lots to do nearby and town is 10 minutes away with a WalMart, Canadian Tire, grocery stores, the waterfront, etc...
-
Rick, they can check out Redden's Camp, it's about 10 minutes east of Kenora on old highway 17, it's on Longbow lake which has pretty good fishing and there is a boat railway (owned by Redden) that takes you to Lake Of The Woods. It is clean and the cottages aren't too bad at all. The store at Redden's has gas, bait, basic groceries, tons of trinkets and trash, and is an agent for the LCBO. The people there are nice. I know the place well because that's where I'd take the kids for popsicles and ice cream when visiting the outlaws up on LOTW. They'll need to get cracking because the place books up quick. I think the waiting list for the trailer park is something like 2 years. PM me if you need more info. reddenscamp.com

TJ, great pics!!! It was good to meet a few members in person but I had to get going, my little ones had enough sitting around so it was time to head home. The show was great and very informative. Now, to find some bullet head jigs to try out swim baits for some 'eyes. It was great to talk to Pete and Esther, Gord Pyzer, Dave Mercer, Doug Brownridge and countless others. Now I can't wait for softwater season.

MNR lays 70 fishing charges in weekend blitz
bigbuck replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
The story with failure to produce your license is although you may have an outdoors card that is good for 3 years, the only information in the system is the license for the first year, the renewal years don't show up on the system. It is stupid, antiquated and just plain dumb!! All the money that we pour into the MNR and they can't keep track of who is licensed and who is not. Have your license on you or in your tackle box and don't run afoul of the CO's and the police out there, if you don't break any laws, hey, guess what, you won't have any problems. GO FIGURE!!! -
I have a couple of buddies with the newer Okuma EVX rods and they love them. A long medium heavy should do you fine.
-
BTW, what type of fishing do you plan on using the reel for?? Us musky guys have piped up with our choices but musky reels and bass reels are different animals. Mind you, the Curado 300 is about the size of many bass reels out there and it will give you more choice as to the type of fishing you plan on doing.
