Lew, that is not too bad a price. See what you can get off of him for 2 cords, you might save a few bucks (maybe 20-50 or so). What about picking it up yourself?? How much will you save. Firewood is not cheap, esp. considering it literally goes up in smoke like gas for the vehicles incl. the boat. Don't forget the stacking party with a couple of strong backs and an afternoon fishing for muskies. I paid $200 for a bush cord of really really dry hardwood last year but it burns real fast and really hot and would not be suitable for a woodstove. The campfire, sure, anything that burns but for home you have to be a bit more picky.

Johnnybass, they are not losing money on the lcbo, it is one of the few money making ventures the gov't is involved in, the last I heard it contributes around a billion dollars a year to the provincial coffers. To sell it would be a travesty, they'd get a couple of billion dollars up front and that would be it, no more milk from the cow because it got slaughtered. As for hydro, we really don't pay what it costs to produce and distribute but that was subsidized out of our taxes that went to the provincial gov't. No problem with me to raise the price of hydro, just make sure the same amount gets reduced from my provincial tax bill (as if that would ever happen). Unfortunately, we are getting to the point where our vote does not count any more. Politicians don't listen. I tell this to all who live in Toronto, if you don't vote for Robbie Ford, you will be in for more of the same. Yes, he can be a buffoon, but he is a regular guy like the rest of us and loves Toronto, not a full of Bull run of the mill politician. If Toronto elects someone like him to shake up the political system, you can bet that the other politicians will start to take notice of your concerns.

A family friend.. I can't believe it... Lifejackets ????
bigbuck replied to tizfun's topic in General Discussion
Wow, sorry to hear about this. They should have had pfd's in the canoe, there was no excuse for that. My sincerest condolences to the family. -
Ahhhhhhhhh, A/C...... I got home Tuesday morning with the kids and got into a nice cool house. The wife had to work Tuesday morning so she came home Monday night and was nice enough to crank up the a/c.

Nice report!! You did good!! I nailed a 14lb'er on Lake X just outside of town Y this weekend.

The skeeters were out in full force this weekend on GBay. Thankfully we don't have any black flies. Hopefully with the heat and dryness they won't last too long.

Lifejackets to be mandatory in Canada/Ontario?
bigbuck replied to cram's topic in General Discussion
Dumb, just plain dumb!! A few boneheads ruin it for everyone, just like always!!!! Rule of thumb, kids in my boat always wear their pfd's and they have to wear them when they are on the dock even when fishing for panfish. Adults are encouraged to do so. I always wear my inflatable that I picked up at the fishing/boating show. No it is not the most comfortable thing but it beats wearing a full sized pfd. Common sense doesn't prevail any more. We all have to have our hands held by big brother these days. I am starting to get tired of being told what to do all the time by the powers that be. People have to start taking responsibility for their own actions. If you screw up, it's your own fault and problem, why should I get punished??? -
You know, stupidity abounds on the water. I watched dozens of boats blast by the Delawana in a clearly marked 9km/hr no wake channel. I wish the OPP had both boats in the water in Honey Harbour, they could have gotten Ontario back in the black by handing tickets out to all the yahoos! I can't tell you how many dirty looks I got because I was putting along at 9km/hr or slower. Never mind out front of Picnic Island. I'd love to see a couple more OPP boats out there. Don't get me started on right of way either. Sailboats have the right of way, canoes should as well. It just makes sense.

Anybody have any experience with the boat covers from Canadian Tire?? I believe that they are on sale this week and I'm thinking about grabbing one for my boat. Let me know. Thanks, B

A fishing date????? If you want to try for 'eyes, you may want to give Rice Lake a try. They are supposedly on fire there. Lots of boat rental places to choose from.
-
Lew, looks great!! You guys are giving me ideas. I'm going to get Brian from JB's to have a look at the back deck of my boat to see if he can rig up some rails to put rod holders on for me for trolling the big 'skis and pike of GBay.
-
Off to Bracebridge for our 18th annual Pike extravaganza with the boys tomorrow morning and then to Honey Harbour to the trailer for the rest of the weekend and hopefully catch a couple of 'eyes to grace the pan.

Make sure you use a SPRO or other good quality ball bearing swivel. These things spin a lot and can really make a mess of your line. On the back of the package is the rigging instructions, follow them exactly and you will be good to go. THEY WORK GREAT when the bite is off.

The house is looking prettier and prettier. Good job Lew!! Enjoy!!

It's definitely a different world there. Wow, talk about hustle and bustle.

I think Lew was just out fishing for some bait for when Musky season opens.......
-
Ok Lew, I was kinda wondering about that. It is good to give it a good workout once in a while to clean out any carbon accumulation in the chambers.

Happy b-day to ya down thar in the US of A.
-
Lew, you averaged 50-52 for your cruise?? You speed demon you!! I guess the boat is running ticketdy boo. Did JP's speed run get you going?? I'm the slow one of the bunch, I can top out at 48-49mph, not that I've been able to. The boat has been on my driveway since the 1st and it hit the water that day for a 10 minute shakedown in the rain and that was it.
-
Happy Birthday Joey!! All the best.

Call Bell's customer service line up and see if they can do anything for you. You might be eligible for a hardware upgrade.

GOOD ONE!!! I'd be gracious and lease her for 15 years and then trade her in for another 25 year old. That'd take me pretty close to 70 and I think that'd be enough for me. Any more than that I'll just pick up a big bottle of Viagra and rent by the hour.

Break out the old school Muskol with 95% DEET. That stuff is paint thinner but if you cover yourself with it from head to toe before you get dressed, I can pretty much guarantee that you won't be bugged.

To all the Mothers that have gone before us..
bigbuck replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
Joe, sorry to hear about your mother. My sincerest condolences. Mother's are the greatest thing ever. We had a family bbq on Sunday at my brother's place and my mom stayed the night at our place to do her favorite job in the world, take care of the kids on Monday while we worked. Come to think of it, I think our mom's had us so we could provide them with grandkids. -
I've spent the past few nights working on the stereo and associated wiring along with the spaghetti under the dash. 4 new speakers, a new deck (I didn't bother hooking up the amp, it'd be overkill), 2 new holes for said speakers along with wiring, next is re-wiring the fishfinder (I may just yet buy a new one) and general cleanup. Also, there was 6 inches of water in the bilge from all the rain we had that had to be drained out, raising the boat, cleaning the plug hole out, breaking out the shopvac to suck up the remainder in the carpet.... Then I have to fix my wonky tach...... Nevermind the day I spent washing it down and waxing it. I get razzed by the neighbours but they are all just jealous of me sitting up in the boat in my driveway listening to tunes now having a cold beverage of my choice. I figure it is just about the only safe place to have a beer in the boat.
