  1. It's a lot different now that you want to hunt turkey, get yourself a decent 3" 12ga pump action and for grouse, either a 410 or a 20ga. You will need 2 guns. A 12ga for grouse will end up making a mess of them. Guns are like fishing rods, there is a different one for each application. My dad always harped on me about how many golf clubs I had, I told him you need 14 to play and a few different ones to switch in/out of the bag for different courses and techniques, he never did understand that...
  2. I joined a couple years back and have met a bunch of people who enjoy fishing as much as I do. For the majority of the time the discussions are great and as with every barrel, there can be a bad apple or two. They get picked out and we go on. I've met a few of the folks on here over the years and they are good people. Yes some topics go off on a tangent and have nothing to do with fishing but we are a community talking to each other about what is going on in our lives. That is what friends do. Long live OFC!
  3. Joey, it's not snow, it's rain that must have reflected the flash, it was getting pretty dark when I caught the fish.
  4. He's a troll looking to stir up trouble. Don't pay him no heed, if he's ignored he will go away.
  5. I figure about 38-40" or so. I didn't have a tape measure with me. Besides, I was fishing by myself so I didn't want to keep the fish out of water for too long.
  6. Here's a few pics of my outing on Wednesday out on GBay. Out trolling: Success, My Believer made a Believer outta me...... Hanging out while I get ready for the successful release, she just swam off calmly.... All in all, a successful day, searching out and finding a couple of reefs that I have wanted to try out.
  7. I'm no longer SnakeBit!! I got my first muskie of the year yesterday while trolling a spot I always kinda figured would produce. She was about 38-40" long and damned pretty!! Safely released to fight again. My boat has finally got some muskie slime on it.
  8. I'm off to Honey Harbour to see if I can tie into a 'ski and maybe some 'eyes later for din din. Wayne, if you are out today, I'm fishing the top end of Bone. Bye bye bye!!!
  9. Be proud of yourself. You did a good job and you know your boat inside and out, literally, there won't be any surprises with it. But like I said earlier, get it slimed will ya!!
  10. Congrats!! Looks like you've got yourself a really nice ride! NOW GO GET IT ALL STINKY AND SLIMY ALREADY!!!
  11. Very, very cool!! The Arrow was waaaay ahead of it's time and if it did enter service, it could well be still flying today with upgraded weapons, radars and avionics. Ike didn't want his poor country cousins in the north to have an aircraft that would have negated our dependance on the U.S. for national defence and northern sovereignty. It's too bad that Diefenbaker was too naive to see this. I wondered what happened to Zurakowski after the Arrow debacle. He settled in Barry's Bay with all of the rest of the Polacks (no offence there). The original parish priest from up there lived with my old boss' family way back when, they sponsored him into Canada from Poland. Lew, nice piece of Canadiana there. Thank you.
  12. Nice Pic!! Nice laker fillets too!! I'll bet they were pretty tasty!! Nice to have you back Wayne. Maybe I'll see you out on the water this weekend. We'll be cruising around tomorrow on the 'Bay.
  13. Protection racket!!Pay your insurance or there will be a fire......... Jeez, Mario Puzo could not have wrote this one better. That folks, is what the gov't is, it's legalized Mafia. Look at protection, ie. police and fire dept's. Look at gambling, ie. OLG and slots. Look at prostitution, soon to be taxed when they can figure out how to do it.........
  14. Get ready to rumble with your insurance company. As mentioned before, have all your receipts ready, go on autotrader and see what comparable truck is out there and for how much. You have to look for similar mileage, that is how they rate what condition a vehicle is in for black book purposes. Unfortunately, you probably won't get what your truck is really worth but fight tooth and nail to get as much as possible.
  15. You looking for new or used?? Check out Ben's Marine in Oro-Medonte on Hwy 11. bensmarine.ca Tell him Bruce with the Larson sent you.
  16. And now back to work. Good laughs. BTW, silly season approaches, hopefully nobody gets too pissy and punchy this year.
  17. A Believer is a BIG bait used primarily for muskie and big pike. These guys were muskie fishing, no doubt about that.
  18. Very nice rig!!! Now go get it all slimy and smelly!!
  19. What peeved me the most, is that I have some chips in my gelcoat from banging rocks helping these boneheads out. I helped them out because it was obvious they needed it. My good deed for the year.
  20. On Saturday, I was out on Pigeon Lake musky fishing in a little tourney we put on every year. While trolling down Big Island, a tinny trolling in front of us caught a nice 'ski. I saw them struggling with the fish and called out if they needed help as they were washing up on the rocky shoreline, and they replied that they needed help. We went over using the electric with my I/O trimmed right up and there was a 43"er with a Believer in it's mouth and the one guy's hand deep hooked twice. They did not have needle nose pliers, no cutters, not even a proper net. All they had were a pair of old rusty pliers. I reached over with my Knipex cutters and easily cut the hook off the lure to help out the guy with the hooks in his hand. One barb went right through so I cut that one off and pulled that hook out, the other one, I told him to go to the hospital. We then cut the hooks out of the musky and these guys decide they want to keep it. By this point, it had been out of the water for over 10 minutes so I doubt it would have survived, it was bleeding out of the gills and fins but I would have tried to revive it, at least give the old girl a chance. MORAL OF THE STORY, don't go musky fishing if you don't have the proper tools, it's bad for the fish and downright dangerous for you.
  21. theringlord.com They are based in Saskatchewan. You can get your Knipex cutters there and they have a decent looking set of Split Ring Pliers for $11 and change. I bought my cutters from them a couple of years ago, they have good service and decent prices. Muskies Canada only sells the basic cutters, they don't have the spring loaded ones. Either will do the job but I think the spring loaded ones are easier to use.
  22. Jigging, rigging, trolling.............. What do you want to do, how much do you want to spend?? You can pick up a $70rod at Canadian Tire OR you can spend $400+ on a GLoomis. A good general purpose rod will be 6'6" to 7ft, medium action, fast tip. A St.Croix Premier for around $100 would be a great rod.
