I'm looking at tracks too and was asking the same questions earlier this week. The Cannon ones are the same size as Bert's and less epxensive, I'm not sure on the quality but looks very similar. My buddy just put Bert's risers for S10's on his cannon tracks and works well. There is also Trojan tackle who will do custom stuff. And Traxstech but those need to be shipped.

I'd drop shot deep fish. Wacky rigging is more for shallow water. You can fish whatever you're wacky rigging on the drop shot. 4in senko's work well, Gulp leaches, minnows, slammers, finesse worms, etc..

That's awesome. Thanks for sharing

I've never fished it but am dying to... I'm seriously thinking about storing my boat there for a season to learn it. Awesome work, especially for your first time there!!

I hear ya Brian, had some similar experiences. They officially lost my business when I brought a broken rod back literally one day after the warranty period and they told me to get lost. Also got some gift cards, drove out there to spend them and gift cards weren't working. The store could not help, they said to go home and email customer service. Prices are higher and service is weak at BPS. Sorry to rant but feel like people should know there are way better stores that deserve your business.

Pike will devour the Cameron musky population!! Very unfortunate but inevitable. Please do not release them if you catch them. Maybe we can get another 10-15 years of decent musky fishing before it goes.

I've fished Cameron a few times this year and have a friend with a place on the burnt who fishes it every weekend. Have not seen a pike yet... fingers crossed. I don't concentrate on walleye but we get a few incidentals. There's a few obvious weedlines you'll see there and weed humps that should have some wally's.

Week of fishing the Timiskaming area (Lake Kipawa)

Mmmmm fried walleye nuggets... Looks like a good trip. -
Seen a ton of them this year! Spent a good 20 mins picking them off the boat and gear the other weekend.

Nice fish. Good looking markings on that girl.

That was a recent show. Go give it a shot. If you get kicked out your most likely in a marina or private property other than that it's fairly open down there from shore. The islands are a good place to start... lots of places to cast from shore for bass, carp and pike.

Lower Twin Lakes Nakina ~ Walleye-Brookies-And Birds
JoshS replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
MAN I love these reports. Looks like an awesome time. Those brookies are beautiful! Thanks for taking the time to put it up. -
Neat info Chris, makes sense.

They're just trying to make an extra buck like everyone else but sounds like they crossed the line lol. I'd kindly bring it up with them and explain that you will not be returning unless they price their services fairly and that "others you have spoken too feel the same way". Hopefully they get the picture. You should definitely let them know. Are they the only launch in the area?

any recommendations for a new bass rod?
JoshS replied to BucktownAngler's topic in General Discussion
I bought a new crucial last year, feels weird... there are better rods out there. I'd give Bills Bait and tackle a call and see what they have if you're in the area. They'll order in anything and I'm sure they'll give you a great price. -
A garbage bag puts up a great fight on a windy day! When I was young fishing with my Dad one night I was casting off minnows like crazy. I was going through our bait stash fast and my dad was getting a little ticked off so the last minnow I cast off, I acted like nothing happened and left the hook out there empty. I reeled in awhile later and found a small fish around 4in hooked through the top lip perfectly which stayed on the hook forever after that. Thought that was crazy when I was younger, still find it funny. Other than that hooked a few anchors, one or two old rods, snagged line with salmon and trout on them and released them, snapping turtle, loon chasing baits to the boat (still fretting the day one eats it), seagulls on topwater, once broke off a little crazy pike on a husky jerk and caught it the next day. One year in the spring I started hitting a few bullheads on gliding raps over this weed bed which I found a bit weird considering the size of the lure, and didn't know the lake had them.

I got renters insurance which covers it, mainly for that reason!

Depends on the type of forage in the lake too. If it's a cisco lake for instance, I'd stay away from weeds and look for steep breaks/open water for bigger pike in the summer. In the lake I've fished a lot in the summer, I'd never see a big pike near the weeds, even the best looking deep edges jutting out to open water wouldn't hold big pike anymore come summer. It's a cisco lake and all about the rock reefs or plain open water trolling in the summer.
-
If they've gone deep in the warm water temps, I think speed is what triggers the bites and trolling fast with big cranks like the rap magnum works. If they're castable and you want to try to slow it down, rigging a big swimbait weedless or on a bullet head. I bet they'd eat a big tube too.
-
I always take the red hooks off baits that come with them and replace with black. I don't know why, guess it's a confidence thing and I just don't like the look of them haha. Don't think it makes a difference 99% of the time.
-
Ha! When I first got my boat less than two seasons ago, my first trip I packed everything but my new boat keys! Now I keep a few sets of spares in my car and tackle.
-
I've seen pike do it twice. I think I'm sold on the theory that it has something to do with digesting a big meal.
-
It may be a marketing that has sold split grip rods and saved manufacturers money but it's not 100% a gimmick. They do have their advantages and make sense... like the way you are forced to hold the rod for longer/easier casts, a little saving on rod weight, nicer feel and balance. For bass and walleye, they seem to feel nicer, lighter, more sensitive. Damn those big fishing companies have me brainwashed!
-
That's it Roy. What Andrew said above sums it up pretty good. It only happens with ripping baits to the side and banging your ribs all day. A shorter jerkbait rod that doesn't smack the water on rips would be the ticket.
-
The exposed blank smacks against your ribs when using jerkbaits as opposed to the cork which cushions the impact. Anyone else get this?
