Yup, thanks for the update and pics. Pressure cracks are a good sign though. It means that ice is forming. I've been on ice that was at least 30" with pressure cracks happening. Let's see some huts out there...as soon as it's safe of course.

I have no idea what ice conditions are in that area. I'd imagine that smaller lakes would have 4" at the very least. BTW....you can fish Tuesday and Wednesday as well if your campfire spews white smoke. It means you've been replaced back home and you no longer have a job.

Great stuff Nipissing and Gary. I really enjoy seeing what folks can think up/create/modify/build to make their lives easier. A lot of the stuff is patent worthy.

Good rant, Zack. I understand your position. If someone called me long distance to ask about ice conditions in a rude manner, I might be tempted to ask them to "hold the line please while I go measure it for you".

I agree with Irishfield 100% on this. There's nothing to add to what he's said.

I think that the good people involved in the attempted apprehension of these two guys have already done more than could have been expected. The attempt should and will at least serve as a reminder to other people that folks are watching them now. I'm quite certain that these two guys won't be trying the same stunt anytime soon. There's also the possibility that this investigation is far from over and that MNR wanted the sent email to go public. Personally I would leave this one as it is and just encourage people to be more vigilant.

Tying hooks to form a harness is really the easiest thing to do. It's very doable even in the dark. As far as the loop is concerned, I no longer use them. I leave the end free and when comes time to use, I tie a small swivel....much easier and cleaner.
