  1. Well, Saturday was just a wonderful day. 2010 trout opening was great. Marc Thorpe and I went out scouting lakes in the townships on Easter weekend...we had a few in mind but there were also some lakes that neither of us had fished. I wanted landlocked but they were all going to be a zoo on opening day. Also, it was early enough at Easter that we couldn't predict the weather so we tried for a lake with good protection from the wind. We didn't want a lake with dozens/hundreds of boats either. Dodging the traffic while fishing is just not my style. We were supposed to leave here around 5:30-6:00am but I was online at 3AM and he popped up there too and was ready to go.so everything was ready he just had to pass by my place whenever. We left my place around 4:45. The score for the day was 4 for 7, not large ones but beautiful fights. Although the fish were all over the water column, the sweet spot seemed to be 32-42 FOW and about 12-15' down. Almost all fish were caught on Savage Gear baits, the "Prey" model in natural colours. Using brand new rods from FhishingStuff. The challenge was that it was a brand new lake to both of us and we hadn't much time to figure it out. We kept two eaters just comfortably over the slot. Here are a few pictures. Ok,the truth is we didn't have much figuring to do....all we had to do was fish near here: I hope you all had a great time! added:
  2. Sounds great, Art! He's bringing me one up there as well.... really looking forward to it! How do you find a reel good enough to match the rod quality though?
  3. I know that dollars are an issue but for that boat I'd go with a 15hp pro-kicker.
  4. You and your neighbourhood are doing good for the fishery, Cliff. Good on ya.
  5. What a great report, Joe! ummmm tell your brother that he should be INSIDE the boat. Looks like a wonderful day for you guys.
  6. Try to keep your transducer 18" from the centerline of you motor and no matter the shape of the hull, keep it level to the water. About a quarter inch in the water....you shouldn't have any problems.
  7. Have a good one Chris. Take it easy and enjoy. I'll be off in 30 minutes or so. Scouted out some lakes as you know, on the Easter weekend and so one is all picked out for today. Good luck to all, enjoy and play safe.
  8. OK, that makes sense. Thanks.
  9. Nice fish!
  10. The fundamental question is, why do you want/need to weigh fish?
  11. Congrats to you Pikeie! You should be proud of yourself. Your folks must be happy as well. I know that we are here in the community. Just enjoy the ride towards whichever goal you set for yourself and you'll make it.
  12. Useless if she can't idle down to 1.5 for walleye. Not my kind of boat but congrats.....looks like a real mover.
  13. To grow, smelts need a lot of water.
  14. Your're right Geoff....long overdue. We have people working hard keeping/getting our resource as healthy as possible and then we have others looking for loopholes and grey areas in the regulations. It's a shame.
  15. Looking good. Very nice baits indeed.
  16. Like I said, knock yourself out.
  17. Pete, Nick and Johnny, great report. Thanks for showing us the kitties.
  18. No worries Scuro.... go troll for carp in your nutrient rich "runoff pool" then. Just don't troll for them here.
  19. Scuro IMO, you're trolling now and it isn't for carp. You aren't even sure the first one was a carp. This is a trolling thread by design.
  20. Goodnight Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are.....
  21. Probably just high blood pressure from the stress of having to deal with ice fishermen now.
  22. I hear ya TJ. I've read it 3 times in the last two days and I've yet to come up with something suitable to tell him. A "congrats" or "thanks for sharing" just don't cut it with those reports!
  23. If you listened to the clip, I think Simon knows that matt. He was with someone who made a tiny bit of a faux pas. Consider it a bit of a learning experience for his bud...leave it alone.
  24. Both Berkley rods and Fenwick rods are owned by the same people. They both have a history of well.... let's call it an explosive history...... a shattering history even. Coincidence?
  25. There is no quick fix. Here's an interesting read for you, Krawler. http://www.pskf.ca/publications/beavers.htm
