Walleyes in the BUFFALO, NY area have always been known as "Yellow Pike" .....some restaurants/TAVERNS still serve them on their Friday Fish Fry and they are still listed as "Yellow Pike" and demand a premium over the haddock fish fry.

Jays tickets vs. Cleveland and accomidations (n.f)
Billy Bob replied to sturgman's topic in General Discussion
For most baseball games......buy the cheapest tickets available and then after 1 or 2 innings sit wherever you want as there will be many better seats not occupied. -
Just in case some of my Canadian cousins are heading the NF Ontario here is a GREAT discount on a dinner theater comedy show...... http://www.groupon.com/deals/oh-canada-eh-dinner-show-buffalo?p=1&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&sid=936998a5-023a-45a9-a60a-b28bafde48b2&division=buffalo&user=151d90ce3828caca0884438920a279339a5353bd299962962a4caf67ca801423&date=20120701&s=body&c=deal_img&d=deal-page

I have install MANY fish/depth finders over the years.......NEVER had a problem bundling the wires along the gunnel to the back of the boat.....and I ALWAYS use the starting battery for my power source....never the TM battery....... You should go on Lowrance's website and see if you need to update the software on that unit.....simple down load onto a SD card and put it in the unit..... Other then that.......follow Tybo's advice.....YOU MUST HAVE RESISTOR SPARK PLUGS any time you are using a depth finder or VHF radio.....also a AM/FM radio. Bob

We rented a houseboat 2X on the Kawarthan's......first time was way back around 1985 when Three Bouys Houseboats were still in business...I believe it was located on Buckhorn.......then again around 2004......but this time we rented from Egan Houseboats at the very south tip of Pigeon Lake....the Three Bouys boats were a LOT better.....they had covered I/O engines that ran MUCH quieter then outboards....but either way still lots of fun.... We went as already mentioned....east to Stony and west to Balsam Lake... You want to spend some time at Bobcaygeon, and DON'T miss Fenlon Falls....you should be able to spend the night at both locks for at least 24 hours....it use to be 48 hours if I remember correctly. Bobcaygeon is a great little town that you can go out and have dinner, shop or just get a ice cream cone....lots to do there.... Fenlon Falls is a picture perfect place with a large waterfall and a family restaurant overlooking it....you dock there on a peninsula that separates the lock area from the waterfalls.....Fenlon Falls is also a nice small town that you can walk around, get supplies, dinner, etc.... The first time when we booked with Three Bouys at the Toronto boat show they gave us a VERY nice book that described each lock and town and what you can expect to find there....like groceries or a beer / liquor store....VERY helpful......I think I still have it... Burleigh Falls is also another "small" area to visit and it's right by Stony Lake....unless you really know that area I wouldn't go any further east....MANY rocks from there on east until you get into the middle of Stony Lake...by then you may have a damaged prop or worse...the houseboats don't come with a depth finder....go figure...they want to repair damaged boats...extra income for them. Both times we towed a fishing boat behind us......of course that was a extra charge at the locks......but the first time the houseboat lock pass was included in the rental fee......now I see many houseboat rental company's don't include the lock pass...it's a extra charge...so check on that....... One last thing.....Egan had a early boarding option......for a extra $99 you could get on the boat the evening before and either head out or just stay the night at the dock and get a early start the next morning....that's really a deal when you figure the weekly cost divided by 7....just something to think about. YOUR GONNA HAVE A BLAST....... Good Luck, Bob

POINTS...... Even if it was a 1978 it wouldn't have points....

Actually weather wise it looks pretty good......but I'm taking the wife out tonight....so a early start would be out of the question and it's a Saturday......busy day at the launches.....I try to fish only during the week if possible.

Actually my partner Don caught the only one.....I caught 7 walleyes and that one bass....but I did lose at least 5 walleyes on the way in...grrrr...LOL..... We limited out with a double header on the last drift....I said to Don, we are going to get a double header to end the day and it ended just like that...
-
No problem.......maybe we can get out together someday in the future.....the bite in the Buffalo end has just started....

Smallie......been there done that......I fish HARD for several years in Walleye tournaments.....place 5 years in a row.......but I no longer enjoy that fishing.......I would actually call it harvesting......VERY PRODUCTIVE don't get me wrong....but the boat does all the catching......you just do the reeling in.....I am older now......and this is much more relaxing....and most times not as productive.......but I no longer care. Bob

You probably don't have ANYTHING in there.....but you DO HAVE infection in there......LANCE it with a CLEAN pin or knife.....but first wash it with alcohol and make sure your tool is disinfected by heating it up on the stove.....then cut or prick it and DRAIN it......then make sure you get some peroxide INTO the wound....it will then heal.......have had to this MANY times to myself or family members....actually quite good at it.....drives my wife crazy when I "operate" on myself...LOL

My fishing buddy Don called me when he heard I was back from Washington, DC......but this time he had a hankering for some walleye fishing.....I said SURE....I know a couple good spots that usually produce walleyes but more in 2-3 weeks.....but I said let's give it a try because the water temps are up and it will be a perfect day if the winds don't get too bad today..... So Don shows up early in the morning and my fishing boat is all hooked on from last night raring to go...... We head out of Buffalo, NY and actually head just over the boarder to my favorite walleye spot to DRIFT FISH with worm harnesses..... On the first drift and cast........BINGO a 19" walleye for the box.....didn't finish the drift and I had another one exactly the same size.....then a real nice smally......just over 4 lbs.....and then NOTHING.....and more NOTHING and MORE NOTHING....... I said to Don...."I have many more spots on this spot to try....so we fired up the outboard and moved maybe 1/2 mile to more rock piles that I have accumulated over the years on my GPS.... And this spot was GOLDEN.....we couldn't keep them there walleyes off our lines........in a total of 3.25 hours we limited out with 12 walleyes.....the largest maybe 5.5 - 6 lbs plus one nice size perch for the box....sometimes you can't do anything right......and once in a GREAT while you can't do anything wrong..... ...today we won that battle....

You just described the Skipper......... Harold

I have a net in my boat that is stored in the splash well for the last 27 years......has been used on way more then a 1000 fish over that time and it is exposed all the time to the sun.....it just a regular net that is always back there.....just in case......but I do have 2 other speciality nets....the rubber one I use when night fishing for walleyes and my huge trolling net that I use to use when I fished competition in walleye tournaments........it has a very large hoop.....but it also has a very long handle that can be extended to about 8 feet in length so we could net fish straight off the back of the outboard while still trolling 5 other lines....you can't stop or everything would tangle....it is also used for trout/salmon fishing on Lake Ontario. Mike I hate to say it.......but reading your posts.......you seem hard on your equipment.....my partner Don is the same way....when I return home from a trip, if there is ANYTHING wrong with my equipment I immediately repair it before the next time out.

Cabela's has SEVERAL kinds.......rubber etc....... I only use a rubber net for night fishing.....great as the treble hooks don't get buried in it when the action is hot.....but during the day I just use a regular net......I have had my Cabela's nets for MANY years...see here and LOOK at the different ones..... http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Custom-Landing-Nets/739354.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dlanding%2Bnet%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26WTz_l%3DHeader%25253BSearch-All%2BProducts&Ntt=landing+net

I use to fish that EXACT same area years ago......when it was easy to cross the Peace Bride back and forth......we always caught our fish using black bucktail jigs....I wouldn't mention how and where as you probably already know and wouldn't be nice to post that kind of info on the internet. We also got lots of rock bass and MANY perch on some days fishing there. Good Luck, Bob
