Thanks! The first cast fish always gets me, think it is going to be a banner outing and then nadda. Catching one is always better than none no matter how many casts or the size of the fish. Definitely! Thanks, I am sure Cliff will turn the tables soon enough, he totally smoked me last season Go get em! Look forward to the report! If you ever try it, I would love to hear how it worked, the same thought has crossed my mind THE most important part of any outing!!

If you are going to continue in your pursuit of this, I would suggest super glue be added to your first aid kit lol Small, quick, will close even deeper cuts until you are off the water and it is also waterproof .

With the cooler temps at night and the rain we've had in the past 24 hours, Cliff and I decided to hit a pier again to throw some cleos for Salmon. We arrived shortly after 8pm....the last light of the day was fading into night. I started at one end of the pier and Cliff headed to the the opposite end. I cast my cleo and began the retrieve....I felt a hit...then nothing....then a minute later it hit again, this time it was hooked well!!! I call out to Cliff because he's walking away with the net in his hands....LOL. He hadn't even put his line in the water yet. Anyhow, he arrived with the net and I brought in my first salmon of the year. It was a nice sized one, measuring in at 39.5 inches and weighing just a tad shy of 24.5 pounds!! A nice crowd of about 10 people had gathered around. Some light profanities from the teenagers, a bunch of "wows", and a few "I've never seen a fish that big" came from them.....LOL. In retrospect, because I caught a fish on the FIRST cast of the night, I should have known we'd be doomed from that point on!!! Anyone else have that happen to them??? We only spent about an hour and half out there. We could see them jumping around, but couldn't entice another one to take the bait.

Why does salmon have more slime and is more smelly than rainbow?
Bly replied to a topic in General Discussion
Well, I am certainly not a fish biologist I would guess there are a few reasons for this... 1. Although members of the salmonid family, they are not the same fish. We are all humans but do not have the same scent, hair color etc. All fish have some sort of slime coating and smell different from one species to the next. 2. Perhaps the smell of the particular salmon you are referring to might be related to the fact that these fish are preparing to spawn and nearing the end of their life cycle, they lose the slime coating that helps protect them; their skin becomes thick and leathery, and they absorb their scales. These fish are breaking down. -
Sounds like it was worth the wait.....congrats on your success with the fish! Glad to hear that the job change has worked out so well

8LB line and a worm harness.....that must have gotten your heart pumping! Congratulations Shawn. Great way to show how well your harnesses work!

Another Fantastic Day on Sturgeon - with Fishnsled!!!
Bly replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Thanks and of course we have outings like that. There are also many outings when we go home skunked or we downsize just to feel the tug of panfish on the line before the day is done, we just figure no one wants to read about skunks and panfish day after day so no post. -
Couldn't help but chuckle as I read this report, but not too much as I know my turn will come. Sean, really enjoyed your perspective on this.......some might have felt falling out of the boat was a lousy start to a weekend after a lousy week, you found the humor and continued on...good for you!! I will be packing extra clothes in the future, thanks for the tip!

Great looking bass. Too bad about the "one that got away", everyone blames the net guy
