haven't seen any floaters out my way Misfish - I also doubt the MNR would do this without telling people about it. Even if they wanted to they couldn't afford to pay for such a campaign! lol

Hey Ryan B - usually people on the board don't take well to others "asking for spots" sort of speak, but hey, My name is Ryan B. also (ryan bonin) so I have to say welcome to the board and good luck finding some new spots. I'm new to the Long Point area, and only have a Personal Pontoon boat but I'll be looking to fish the bay in the coming seasons when I do buy a boat. As for spots east of the bay, I've fished plenty, but I couldn't tell you how to get there as it's been with pro anglers and it's on their spots in the middle of "the big blue". They put in their time, driving and charting the lake on their GPS units looking for rock piles and fishing them. All I can say is that in the spring and fall there's smallies a plenty not far from the shores of buffalo. Good luck dude, UF

waky style plain out catches more fish, but the thing that sucks about it as opposed to texas rigging is that you'll get ripped off for you bait more often. On good fishing days I'll use half a worm at a time, rigged waky....I guess that makes me cheap! My fiance calls it "thrifty" lol

Vacation Carping - July 7-10 - Pic intensive
The Urban Fisherman replied to MJL's topic in General Discussion
sweeeeeeet - you're making me want to hang up the bass gear and hook into some carp tomororw morning! cheers, UF -
if I could go back I'd get stocking foot waders and two pairs of boots, 1 felt bottom and 1 rubber bottom.
-
I'm hardly a wader pro - but the one thing I've learnt is to stay away from felt bottoms if you're fishing muddy banks. I lived in the sauga and fished the credit which is rocky so felt bottoms were awesome for sticking to slimy rocks, but i've since moved to the country and all my local creeks are mud-holes......man do the felt bottoms suck here. They collect mud and your feet end up weighing 10lbs each!

I third this - unless you're going to be in town anyways - which is what I'm assuming...

Try fishing the river mouth up-stream to the canoe club. I've caught everything there from Salmon in the fall, to Smallmouth mid-summer, pike, carp, even walleye under the bridge. I never used live-bait there but if you're taking your son out it's probably a good idea just to get him into it as you'll have better chances of hooking into something. If it was me fishing with minimal time, I'd start under the bridge at lakeshore, and fish the up-stream shoreline until you get to the canoe club. It's harder to fish from the pier to the bridge with all the rocks and stags. Another great spot you don't hear much about is Lakefront Promenade Park @ Cawthra and Lakeshore. There's a creek mouth at I believe the south-west side of the park that has produced my best ever smallie day, as well as many carp, and sheephead outings. Try a worm or minnow under a float and you won't be dissapointed. You can cross a walking bridge and fish the shore opposite the park which is a nice rocky beach. I used to set a minnow trap in the creek and fish carp until I got some minnows and then slotter the sheephead with a shiner under a float. Also, when the sun starts setting try a worm on bottom and you should be into a whack of catfish. Normally I wouldn't blab about spots, but if it'll help get your boy into fishing I'm all for it. Good Luck, UF Erindale Park is alright for smallmouth in the summer, fishing pools with a worm should catch you some fish but it's a little more difficult to fish with a wee one as there's a little bit of current.

LOL that's funny John! Nice setup L.A. - Get yourself some soft plastics and you're all set! -
Would you go fishing in this?
The Urban Fisherman replied to markiemark70's topic in General Discussion
well if you're going to be fishing alone, only have a car and have minimal storage at home, nothing beats the comfort and STABILITY of a personal pontoon boat. And other than 2 straps you won't need anything else to transport it. You can either soup it up like I did with some simple mods, or leave it as is and transport it in your trunk, assembling it on site. Personally, I prefer the mods which are relatively inexpensive, the motor being the most costly part. There's no need to buy a $200 roof rack for the car because the pontoons are plenty soft enough to strap it on the roof. Before the Mods: Post Mods: I fish an 80 acre lake and can go end to end in 10 to 15 minutes. and have caught many fish from my little tuner! Next boat is a Bass Boat! heh couple years before that's in the budget. Good luck whichever way you go! -
Hey Glen...could this happen where you fish?
The Urban Fisherman replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion

Are Powerbaits worth of the extra money?
The Urban Fisherman replied to a topic in General Discussion
I can't stand using live bait as it just get's ripped off from the little turbo tapers and you spend more time re-rigging then you do fishing. If you fish plastics (or gulp) properly you can catch just as many if not more fish than with live bait. As for powerbait specifically, I use primarily gulp minnow's, leeches, shaky heads, grubs etc. but you just can't go wrong with senko's when it comes to largemouth! Cheers, UF -
Dude - I beat it to death last year to and never managed anything over 2lbs. But on saturday they were everywhere - I saw one pod of 4 fish that were all easily as big as my PB. I must have spotted 10 or more in that size range. It was crazy, but they wouldn't bite if they could see you. I had to back off and come back at them later on. (a little trick I've recently learned) I knew where they were spawning from my bluegill trips, so I just fished in about 10 to 15 FOW off to the side. If you ever fish it, fish it deep - that's where the brutes hang out. Probably never happen again, but here's hoping. Cheers..

right on rich = thanks for the report dude

nah I still haven't had a chance to put the camera in - there was a retired couple fishing not far from me on the dock and they helped me out. I always bring my camera with me, but wasn't counting on catching a PB so I left it at home....GO FIGURE....ended up having them take pix for me with my camera phone...turned out ok! Good fishin' all, Ryan

yeah but there was alot of 3/4lbers in the mix and 2 or 3 rock bass...still a stellar morning...

Gotta keep this short as my daughter's sittin' on my lap and is more impatient than me! Went to the little reservoir down the road today for bass opener...have a million things to get done to the house before my wedding august second so I promised the Fiance I'd be home for lunch. Quick and simple... Largemouth were post spawn, sitting on deeper weed edges and willing to eat. I fished for about 3 hours, landed at least 40 fish, many of which were 2 to 3 lbs with one 19.5 inch bucket which was easily my PB largie. temp: 72 Baits : Senko, Flippin' Jig, X-Rap..... X-rap produced the bigguns of the day. Happy opener all! Cheers, UF

AWESOME DonC. Nothing beats time on the water with family! I'm only 26 and my daughter's only 1 and a half, but I sure hope she hit's the water with me like you're daughters do. What's the secret to getting them into it? Thanks for the report. Cheers, UF

I'm pretty sure Scott's talking about Flipin' Jigs! In which case you'd be using 50lb braid, on a heavy action baitcasting rod/reel. Last year I used a medium action rod for the first half of summer and had a hard time getting the hooks into the fish....a rod with a supple tip will help you feel the bites, but you need some stiffness to it so you can jam that hook into the fish and rip it out of the weeds or trees before it get's tangled. Lock your drag down to - it ain't going anywhere. cheers, UF
