See what I don't get is why everybody is commenting on Rich's looks and failed to bring up the purdy girl that he was fishin' with! Glad to see you guys made it out my way, it's to bad we weren't able to connect - next time call me on the phone dude! I've got an inside source (a fellow DC regular) that gave me a few spots and suggested carolina rigging in 15 to 20 FOW.....Less #'s but bigger fish. Believe it or not he suggested a part of the lake that I've never fished so here's hoping for next saturday. Even though we've got conflicting schedules I've got the truck now, and a trailer so there's no excuse for not hooking up for some buckets before fall - just find us a boat as the tooner isn't multiple angler friendly... Cheers, UF

Thanks as usual for all the kind words guys...it means alot! BRIAN: I still can't get over the fact that Dave and his wife Sarah gave me the truck. The dealer only wanted to give them about 2 grand for it, and they're selling at around 8 grand privately. Makes no sense to me. And another thing is I don't understand how the government of ontario gets to charge taxes on a vehicle over and over and over! lol I'm the third owner of this truck as Dave bought it when it was a year or so old...it's now 8 years old and the government has made tax money on it THREE TIMES! I'm not complaining in any way but it just doesn't seem right to me...... I even tried to give Dave the $500.00 and pay $40.00 in taxes but they wouldn't let me...you have to pay taxes on what the government thinks the vehicle is worth! Cheers, Ryan

what an awesome day guys! You're one lucky couple to have each other! Cheers, UF ps. I think Bly's 17 inch smallie is actually a largie...or a smallie with a GIANT mouth! hehe -
WOW- awesome photo's dude! I've gotta get out more! haha

Hey all, I've poked my head onto the board here and there over the past few weeks but haven't had any time to post as I was swamped prepping for my wedding, then having the wedding and holidays, then getting back to work last week so I've got a few posts to make... First off, I got hitched in my back-yard on August 2nd, we had a smallish 100 person wedding complete with a tent reception, fire, dance and booze a plenty! The only stipulation I made in the wedding plans was that I got to go fishing the morning of my wedding... Talk about a hell of a way to start off your wedding day. My father, great uncle and brother (best man) hit long point bay for a couple of hours in the morning. I grew up fishing with my father and uncle but my brother has never gotten into it for some reason. So I was pretty stoked to get him out on the water.... It was only my second time on the bay, but we managed a bunch of smaller largies like this guy.... And my brother mastered the art of catching TWGS.....he was happy to finally catch something as he usually has "bad luck" And the realease..LOL He's waiting out in the bay for you Rich..... My Dad and Uncle both caught a handfull of largemouth as well so it was a great way start to the day....Nothing huge but it sure beats getting skunked! We got married on "The Dock" which hangs over our back-yard pond. Ginny and I were thinking ahead while finishing off our University Exams and decided to make our very own Flower Girl - my Daughter Averie. And we partied the night away with friends and family.... So a few days after our wedding Dave Mercer calls me up. (as most of you know I work for Dave Mercer Outdoors) And says "listen, I bought a new vehicle for my wife and they don't want to give me much of anything as a trade in on the old one, and I know you need one so I was wondering if you wanted it?" I JUST ABOUT LOST IT...he flat out refused in any way to take money for it. So, I picked up the truck, paid the stinkin' government their taxes for it, had a safety done and FINALLY after 6 years I have my OWN vehicle again. I wasn't sure if I was going to post that it was given to me, but Dave posts on here from time to time and I just figured I'd let people know just what kind of guy he really is. This was like winning the lottery for me. So now I don't have to load my boat onto the roof of my wife's car anymore, just load it into the trailer and away I go. Which is exactly what I did this past saturday morning. I've been dying to try pitch black buzzbait bassin' for a long time. It was a clear night and nearly a full moon so I was on the water @ 4 a.m. and had an awesome outing. I didn't get any giants but managed a good 20 fish before sunrise and a few more afterwards. Talk about exciting....you can't see anything, all you can do is listen to your buzzbait rippin' across the surface then SPLASH a largie smashes it. I'll be doing it again soon! Notice the new Humminbird 597 GPS combo on Tooner (she does a whopping 4.2 MPH haha) They started off small and got a little bit bigger as the morning went on.... I'm still working on getting good photo's with my mount... And once the topwater bite died off I switched to senko's and got a bunch of these little guys.... Well this post is dedicated to my beautiful wife Ginny Bonin, for not only putting up with my obsession of fishing, but for still wanting to marry me after realizing just how bad it was! Good luck out there guys, UF

Right on Brian! Now I feel like a loser because I've been talking about losing 10lbs for the last two years! haha congrats dude! Ryan

awesome dude! Congrats on the boat. If you've got time for the "pimpin" this year go for it, but if it were me I'd just get it sea-worthy and get some fishing in this season and save pimpin' it up for the off-season. That's what I did with my little tooner and I ended up with a much better finished product. Doing it in the winter allows you to take your time and do it right, exactly how you really want it. In the summer you're to anxious to get out fishing on weekends so you might be tempted to rush things - cutting corners etc. etc. either way - congrats, and good luck! Cheers, UF

awesome! I might look into one also as another rod - I've got an 11' stimula for float fishing and love it...thanks to Fishinsled who gave it to me for next to nothing. Cheers

Why do people always have to argue?!?! WHO CARES - if you don't think a fish is 9lbs or 2lbs or whatever just laugh to yourself and forget about it. This website is all about people having fun, sharing stories and making friends, so I think some people need to get over themselves. As far as guessing weights, I doubt there's more than a dozen or so people on this board who've even seen a 9lb + largie up-close and personal - so who are you to say it isn't 9lbs? Anyways - that's my 2 cents. Enjoy the pix, guess a weight here and there, give tips when you can and have fun. Cheers, UF
-
I was going to say 9 lbs.....nice fish

I agree that Yum Dinger's last longer, but only because they don't catch fish! lol I'm sure it's just the body of water I fish, but for whatever reason they don't eat dingers...at all! Which sucks because they're cheaper, and you're right, Senko's fall apart after a couple good bites.

I believe Wullie is supposed to be visiting in early septmeber. I'm not a fly fisherman, but the salmon should be in full force at that point, as well as some nice big steelhead. Great time of year to visit if you ask me. I'm sure some of our resident fly guys could help you out! Good luck, UF

massive thunder/lighting storm has already come and gone down here - clear sunny skies now!

welcome aboard dude - whatcha lookin' to hook into while you're here? Cheers, UF

sweet - I'll have to give them a try. Senko's catch a wack of fish in DC cept lot's of dinks.... but hey...on a rough day, dinks are better than nothing. Like I said, tried yum dinger's two weeks ago and didn't get bit once....

Hey John, my fiance is bugging me to read to my daughter in french - could you have it translated for me? Thanks dude - great read as usual. No need for pix - it's better left up to the imagination. Cheers, UF

I've never fished senko's for smallies, but when I have a follow up from a largemouth I just toss it in and let it drop...the ends wiggle on their own which will usually attract the fish. If you don't get a bite, give it a quick twitch. Remember the bass is already amped up from chasing your twitch bait in so that twitch might be what it takes to have him bite. For smallies, (in shallower water) I'd try a drop-shotted minnow style soft bait. It's a better match to your twitch bait and smallies can't resist 'em. Good luck, UF

Nice haul Rich Freakin' senko's... I have a love hate relationship with them. They work great but aren't exactly easy on the pocket book! Can't wait to see the vid dude, UF
-
sweet!!! that's awesome dude...congrats for sure! Look at the hair on that boy......and nice story lol We're "workin" on our second one right now.... Heath and happiness to you and the family! Cheers, UF

dude it was crazy - they were smashing it with the fluoro leader. Like I said twice they hit it on the drop (like throwing a flippin' jig for largies). I couldn't believe they wouldn't touch my bait with strait braid. I found a wicket spot to...they're ALWAYS staked in there but the tree's are frustrating....

huh, could be a quillback guys. I've never even heard of them before. Although my little specimen has a more "carp-esque" mouth on him.... I had a half dozen tiny 2" carp in my fish tank a couple years back and they looked alot like this guy. Very silver when they're juvies. And they were like miniature aquarium vac's - kept the bottom spotless...until they became lunch for one of my other fish.... I'll let you's know in the spring he happens to double in size Thanks for the tips guys - I think i'm going to try 65lb Braid as a main-line and 40lb fluoro for a leader. Next day out is going to be my wedding day (aug. 2nd) with my old man and brother. I'll be a Carper in the morning and a husband in the afternoon...any tips for that one? Cheers, UF
