Hey guys, Gotta keep this short, but on our way back from returning a rental movie this past sunday the kids and I stopped by the creek for a couple of bluegill. To my surprise and Averie's excitement we were checked by an MNR officer. He's new to the area and was out and about learning the tribs and trying to catch illegal steelheaders! Luke was clapping and cheering on his big sister lol They caught some fish... Luke didn't want to hold his fish up for a picture haha But Averie was very excited to have her picture taken with our local CO And after a couple more of these... We were on our way! Enjoy your weeks! Ryan & the kids!

The Urban Fisherman replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
Hey Jaques! You are to kind as usual my friend! Believe it or not I don't have a proper list of all the participants... some guys didn't show and I had a couple of last minute participants who aren't on my list... but let me get that in the morning and send it off and we'll see what we end up with! cheers, Ryan -
NF - I'm gonna need a bigger boat!
The Urban Fisherman replied to The Urban Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Thanks Frank - we're hoping to find out this friday at an ultrasound if it's a boy or girl! Here's hoping for another boy! I think the 14 footer still has some life left in her Frank! Unless that's just your excuse for a new rig.. in that case, yes the 14 is getting to small.. You can tell Julie I said so! ;o) Hey Cudz, I can only imagine dude! Thank god Averie is a little older than the other two will be and can handle things on her own now.... especially on the water. You're right I just found a link online that says we'll have to pay 13%... buuummer. And as for the boat I'll talk to Rick! haha The G3 is still plenty big for years of fishing fun to come ans serves me well. Thanks for taking the time.. Thanks dude - she's due in march so we're not in a huge rush for the vehicle but are going to keep our eyes peeled in case a real good deal pops up. Nothing crazy - something in the 2004 or 2005 range with decent KM's. Thanks Craig - I found a link online that's a digital copy to a book we had gotten in the mail... Looks like they snuck in a new tax grab on buying used vehicles. Unless I'm reading it wrong we have to pay full HST on private deals as well.. Ah well, what're you gonna do. Here's the link: http://www.rev.gov.on.ca/en/taxchange/taxable.html Cheers, Ryan -
Hey guys! I haven't posted much lately as I haven't been fishing, or had a whole lot of spare time to speak of... Long story short, Ginny's about 5 months preggo with baby número trois! Were going to be buying a newer vehicle that can handle the entire family and for some reason the MTO wesite keeps crashing for me. What's the deal with HST and any other expenses that I need to know of when buying a used vehicle in Ontario. I haven't had to buy a vehicle in close to 10 years! Thanks a bunch! Ryan & the Fam!

What are the best lures/baits for perch?
The Urban Fisherman replied to fisher12's topic in General Discussion
I usually cut the gulp minnow's down so there's pretty well only the tail left over. It works well sometimes and other times you can't buy a bite on them. The fish fry (white) seem to attract lots of dinky perch, and little sunfish as well but that keeps Averie happy. The hollow belly minnows have worked better for me most of the time. On a side note we always drop-shot them (sinker 1 foot below the hook). It helps keep Averie from snagging the weeds - myself as well. Like I said, live minnow's are dynamite on the bay but I get frustrated with putting new ones on after going through a dozen of them in 5 mintues! haha Then each time you get a bite you're wondering if you still have bait on your hook or not..... especially when Averie misses 90% of her bites! so she gets a gulp fish fry and I spend my time taking off baby perch for her! -
What are the best lures/baits for perch?
The Urban Fisherman replied to fisher12's topic in General Discussion
Gulp Fish Fry - Special thanks to Jaques.. Gulp Alive Minnow's (sometimes I trim them to be a little smaller depending on how aggressive the bite is) 3" power bait hollow belly minnow's Tiny Grubs or Micro tube Jigs I always go with natural colors as for the most part I only fish two bodies of water for perch both of which are super clear. There's no doubt that live minnow's work awesome but I find that you catch larger fish on average with artificial baits and you're not putting a new minnow on every time you miss a fish or catch a little dink. Reaching into 50 degree minnow bucket water in october/november can make for awfully cold hands real quick... Cheers, Rya -
I was looking into it out my way as I'd like to help and figured it'd be a good way to get involved with the community. They make $20 an hour here while fighting fires and get paid for training as well. But the guys agree'd to pool the 2 or 3 grand a year that everybody is "supposed" to get and keep tabs of who show's up to clean and maintain the trucks and property of the station, and who comes to fundraisers and kids events and such and the more you show up to do that stuff the more money you get from the pool at the end of the year. I'm hoping to get involved if I can! Cheers, Ryan

yeah $20.00 was a bit of a shocker for me when I first moved down here. Growing up in Sudbury most launches were FREE or $5.00 at the most. I had originally planned to get a season pass somewhere but I only have a 15 foot jon boat so my launching location on the bay depends on which way the wind is blowing. Most of the time I launch at Old cut if I can because it's only 10 bucks, but I often launch at Akers because he's about 1 km from my wife's grandmothers house.... that gives me a few extra minutes on the water which is worth the 5 bucks to me. Bottom line is I don't have a choice so I just grin an bear it and get out fishing as much as I can afford to! Cheers, Ryan

Nice Catch Dood! I say the fish is her's but you did pretty good for yourself as well! Cheers, ryan

I have a 2000 xterra and if I didn't have to buy a vehicle that can handle 3 kids I'd be buying another one! It's got 270,000 km's and runs like a charm! Little to no repairs done in the life of the vehicle.

Hey guys! Thanks for the great replies! I'm out and about right now and on my Phone so I have to keep this short... Roy, thanks for the kind words - Shram is an awesome dude just like Pete and he knows his stuff as well. We were casting for them which is my preferred way to fish... No patience for trolling... And the chopped weeds and slop were horrible so you'd never have been able to troll! Cheers, Ryan

I'll fire you a text if I'm heading your way! Thanks for the report! Ryan

Well it's no secret that I work for Facts of Fishing THE SHOW. I'm very fortunate to have a "boss" like Dave who loves to fish and share that love of the sport so much! One of his goals when we go away on a shoot is to put a great show in the bag so the whole crew can get a little time in on the water and that's just what we did this past week. Short and simple, I was able to spend a few hours on the water with Dave, Pete Maina and Brian Shram. There isn't a better team of dudes out there if you're trying to tie into your first ever Musky! I can't even begin to explain the excitement of not only catching my first Musky, but the felling you get when one of those big beasts chases you're lure right to the boat then sinks off into the abyss.. Anywyas, Dave - you're the man. I couldn't ask for a better friend and employer! This truly was the trip of a lifetime for me! Pete and Shram, the same goes to you guys. I hope that I have a chance to hit the water with you guys again someday sooner than later! Good times all around, and thanks for everything! Shram, and Derek with his first musky - a healthy 40 incher... And myself and Pete with my first - a beautiful 47 inch fish! What a rush! A group shot before the release! She swam off strong - waiting to be caught another day! Have a great weekend! Cheers, Ryan

My Weekend of Fishing...
The Urban Fisherman replied to The Urban Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Thanks a bunch guys I'm just packing my bags for 2 days of musky fishin' with Dave and Pete Maina! Dano - he didn't get out in the boat as early as his big sister because I didn't know if I could handle both of them at once... turns out it won't be a problem... as for fishing next weekend feel free to fire me a PM... Friday I have a wedding out of town so Saturday's a no go - and sunday I might be stuck catching up on some house work, but i'll see what I can do! I'm outta here have a good week! Cheers, Ryan -
buddy...siiiiiiiick report. Love the browns - the brookies are sweet to, but I'm droolin' over the browns.. Very jealous - enjoy the rest of your trout season brotha.. Cheers, Ryan

Right on buddy! I knew I should have texted you or something! we decided to go out last minute for a couple hours... Ginny's grandmother lives next door to Aker's so we went down for dinner and launched out of there. It was just to get luke out on the water for the first time but we caught all kinds of little perch so the kids had fun!! I might try to sneak out again next sunday... Cheers, Ryan

Saturday I volunteered my time to help untangle lines and bait hooks at the Facts of Fishing for Kids Day at Ontario Place. So I decided it'd be a good idea to wake up at 3 a.m. and hit the mouth of the credit for a couple of hours first. There was the usual packed house on the pier and in the 3 hours I spent out there nadda... not even any fish surfacing... But I got an arm workout and the sun rise was bad-ass. Twilight... Sunrise... and wider shot... After that I drove down to Ontario Place and had a great time with the kids! One little guy caught an insanely huge crayfish... the picture doesn't do it justice! Then today I decided it was about time to take the boy out and show him where Averie and I disappear to each weekend! First time on the big lake with two kids meant Grandma had to tag along in case he lost it on the water! haha He turned out to be a champ and loved every bit of it... The first step... He had no problems going 25 MPH on the lake! Averie let him use her rod at first because we haven't managed to buy Luke his own just yet... she used my ultralight for a while... The kid got into her usual sunfish right off the bat... But she didn't like using the big rod so we let her have her ice fishing rod back and luke and I used the ultra light... Trying to figure out how to use the turny thing... haha First fish (wish some serious help from dad) We drifted along and caught all kinds of little dink perch but the kids had lots of fun... Dad feelin' tall for once... Pointing out seaguls... Averie decided it'd be fun to show Luke how the boat Rocks back and forth! haha Grandma even got in on the action... Then we stopped by the "lookout" on our way home to say bye to The Bay for another weekend... Hard to beat a country sunset after a couple hours on the water. Sorry bout all the pix... I was just stoked about getting my boy out on the lake for the first time... And Grandma is trigger happy with the camera.. Enjoy your work weeks! Cheers, Ryan

South west wind is good for you if your running out from the park! The point will shelter you from the wind for the most part! East wind is bad like you said but you should be ok to get out for some pirch.
