  1. great report but If you're gonna target them, gotta use a leader next time
  2. very depressing. I haven't been to my cottage since mid august, and next time I go will be to shut her down. Where did summer go? Only good news is once cottage is closed down I can start focusing on musky fishing!
  3. sounds like a nice fish. How about leader length? A decent musky would gobble up a little buzzbait like that and 12 inches of leader no problem
  4. good for you, looks like lots of action
  5. maybe that was the problem! What pound test were you using? A musky makes powerful runs. A drag too tight may lead to broken line or rod, or cause a hole around the hook to form allowing the hook to come free if fish gets any slack (see head shake or airborne fish to create slack in line - muskies do em both, often at the same time!)
  6. I shut mine off whenever I can - ie casting a weedbed there's no point to have it on. Even if it doesn't scare the fish, they may be conditioned..."heard that pinging noise before, ate something, and then something very bad happened to me...not going to eat this time when I hear pinging"
  7. holy good deal! I just stopped at some guy's house on the way home from work because he had a small canoe (aluminum) for sale for 50.00. Thing was a total piece of crap, looks like it bounced around on the freeway for an afternoon, actually quite funny how crushed and crumpled it was...either way I was going to buy it because what can you get for 50? Apparently a sportspal, I better check kijiji before I buy the smashed up popcan canoe
  8. incredible story, pretty scary to have a bear that close. That guy was seconds from being turned into bear scat
  9. nice fish but if it took you all year sure wouldn't be my favorite lake!
  10. same problem here. Why the heck did they mess with the old squeeze bottle anywho...someone in product development should lose their job. They took something that worked fine, tried to turn it into a gimmick and now it sucks
  11. and you want to do this why?
  12. hope he got that snapping turtle out of my lake, we've got a few to spare
  13. some great looking photos, especially from a blackberry! Who needs a camera?
  14. ...its funny because its true
  15. looks like the feedbag is on! nice fish
  16. will be exact same result - conservative minority - Harper hasn't pissed off those who voted for him last time, but hasn't won any new friends either. I'd like to see them get a majority to see what they can do, but with the big southern ontario vote I can't see it happening
  17. ...I guess Aquarius or Pisces...or maybe you just meant consolation...sorry but that's one of the better typos I've seen, couldn't let it pass
  18. go away for a couple of weeks and looks like I missed lots of fun. I do love it when people "announce" their departure...especially over trivial little things like nobody answered my post. Usually there is a good reason for things like that (ie nobody knows the answer...or maybe they just don't like you...but I doubt that's the case because I've never heard of you)
  19. don't hide the location! Tell me where you are finding pike and I'll toss a spinnerbait there for an hour or two the next time I'm fishing Balsam
  20. I thought you said you'd be using big baits? Those would be spring-sized musky baits, not a bigger bait at all. Either way, Pigeon (so I hear) has to be one of the best bets for a newbie to catch a musky (other than maybe scugog), and a supershadrap would probably be fairly reliable in a kawartha lake I would imagine. Good look and let us know how you do.
  21. I always talk trash with my fishing partners...name calling, mother jokes, insults...helps the day go by when the fish aren't cooperating
  22. I've got one, but it uses overflow tube. Maybe they just didn't give you one with the boat??
  23. rain is not the problem, it was all the lightening that was predicted. Pouring rain in 85 degree weather is actually nice (and good for the fishing). It appears that today was the perfect day
  24. just as it always happens...scared off by a forecast (lightening lightening and more lightening) that doesn't come true. When will I learn to not trust the weatherman? Even if it starts now, I still would have had a solid 3 plus hours in great conditions
  25. I know this because I just canceled my plans to go fishing tomorrow based on the forecast.
