  1. No you are not the only one. I used to wonder why my friends never brought a power line into their place till I spent an entire weekend there. Fridge, stove, and hot water heater all run off propane, there is a generator that is run occationally to pump water up to the holding tank but otherwise, being there is the most peaceful experience. They heat the whole place with a wood stove and even have a country kitchen in the back of the garage. It is a different lifestyle to say the least... however, I never hear them complain about bills or go on and on about what was on the television last night. Their debates are about things like words used in scrabble, the new monopoly game that is out or a recently read novel. Enjoy the tranquility you have found in small things Entropy... We could all use a little more of that! Cheers Jen
  2. Hi Entropy, Friends of ours have no electricity at all at their house, they use Kerosene in all the lanterns. On a given night there are probably 8 lit in the living area. Coal Oil does burn cleaner, (not as strong a smell). If you have your wicks all set right you will get a clean burn off of kerorsene as well. Cost savings wins out in their case. They use reflectors behind each wall mounted light, which helps alot when it comes to the light they supply. Cheers, Jen
  3. At the very least you got out there... nice read! Jen
  4. Very good points from everyone... My concern is the effect that all the sunscreen is going to have on our children in 10 or so years. Global warming aside, the products that we use on our bodies and our childrens have got to have some adverse effects... even though we are trying to protect them, long term are we doing the right thing. ( not to mention the bug spray, moisturizers, deodorants, hair products, soap etc... )
  5. Ok, there is a tad of jealousy... Welcome back Mike, I look forward to seeing how your day went with your new toys! Cheers, Jen

  20. We use the one that you have purchased with the chlorine tablets. Seems to work well, but is rather slow if you are wanting to filter water for cooking etc.

    Hello

Welcome to the board...There is a lot of water around Hamilton, try out the old train bridge off York, or the point. Probaby bump into you a time or two as the weather gets better. I am the mom, yelling at her kids to cast into the water, not at one another. LOL Enjoy the OFC family, I certainly do! Cheers Jen

Having a pet is like parenting in a sense and everyone has different approaches, therefore I believe I am entitled to my opinion. The original comments that were posted along with the pictures were removed so that had a lot of bearing on my post. Graftongal, No worries, everyone is entitled to their opinion... and yours counts! You just viewed it differently than it was intended. Please be assured that at no time was Tucker (thats my dogs name) ever in any danger of being hurt, nor did I mean to imply that. The post was out of interest to see who has dogs that swim and who has dogs that don't. I was shocked when he stepped out of the paddle boat, as he had played on shore in the water all week. I am the parent of three children, as well as have had many pets who are members of my family. I love them very much and would never let anything happen to them I assure you. It is hard to know someone through posts... however I understand your thoughts and words in regards to animals, they were out of concern and caring. Which is why I took the humourous wording out of my post. Cheers, Jen
