  1. Thanks for sharing Simon. Funny and informative.
  2. I dealt with fungal infection on my toenails last year. I visited a podiatrist without any referral. Treatment involved 4 laser therapy treatments as well as removing the nail thickness that accompanies fungal infection of the nails. Nails are healthy again.
  3. I clicked on the reference (to the OFAH website page on Lake Scugog Walleye Closure) the original poster provided and inter alia read the following under the heading Let Us Bear in Mind: "There was no assessment of the potential socioeconomic impacts to the local community that would result from a closure of the Walleye fishery. This should have been considered by the MNRF when making this decision." Although an OFAH member since 2001, I personally do not support MNRF wild life management decisions being based in any part on socioeconomic impacts. There never has been nor should there be any guarantees to those who opt to set up businesses close to a resource lake/territory. While perhaps an unpopular opinion, I don't even consider such businesses as stakeholders. For me, the MNRF should involve legitimate stakeholders for a lake such as fishermen, First Nations when appropriate, cottage owners and fish biologists. I may not have articulated my thoughts well enough in my first post in this thread. Supposedly, Ontario spends 100% of hunting and fishing revenue on fish and wildlife management. The funds go into a fish and wildlife special purpose account, which invests more than $65 million a year in fish and wildlife management. I do not support any of these funds in the fish and wildlife special purpose account being spent to study socioeconomic impacts of wildlife management decisions.
  4. Thanks for sharing Simon. Wonderful video of father and son enjoying the outdoors together.
  5. Disappointing to read that the OFAH believes that the MNRF should have considered socioeconomic impacts before making such a decision. I don't support any of my licence fees going to support businesses along the lake.
  6. With Plummer's Lodge being on my bucket list, I really appreciated your report and pictures Bunk. I too appreciated that your report included all aspects of being a rookie guide at Plummer's. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
  7. Two seniors living in a 2 story 2200 square foot home in Ottawa. Average electricity bill over last 10 months was $90. Average consumption over those 10 months was 550 kWh. Electric clothes dryer, electric stove, two frigs, one freezer, etc. High efficiency furnace and hot water tank are natural gas. My average monthly total cost of natural gas consumption for the same 10 months was $101. Average monthly cost for actual natural gas used was $31. The disturbing fact for me is that the Ontario Energy Board claims to be looking after my best interests.
  8. I'm wondering why you appear to have a preference for big reels for fishing LMB. I would think that a Shimano Symetre 1000 (2 ounces lighter than a 2500) with a max drag of 7 pounds and line capacity of 110 yards with 6 pound mono or 95 yards with 10 pound Power Pro would satisfy your needs. I have experienced no difficulties landing walleye as big as 8 pounds with my Shimano Stradic 1000s. Lastly, while it may just be my own preference, I always take the rod with me that I'm buying a reel for - trying for a balanced feeling. I've never owned a Pflueger reel so I can't compare with the Shimano Symetre (I own one as well as 5 other Shimano spinning reels).
  9. Great post Simon! Thanks for sharing.
  10. Just wondering Steve whether you could elaborate on your statement that at times, nuclear power can be the highest cost source. The data in the following table was excerpted from the Regulated Price Plan Price Report (OEB) for 1 Nov 2015 to 21 Oct 2016 Source % of Total Supply Total unit cost (cents/kWh) Nuclear 60 6.9 Hydro 22 6.0 Gas 8 16.3 Wind 7 13.3 Solar 2 47.5 The Ontario Energy Board release announcing electricity prices effective 1 Nov 2015 said, inter alia, that 40% of the increase in rates was due to nuclear and hydro electric power while approximately 1/3 of the rate increase was due to green sources of power (e.g. wind, solar). That doesn't seem so bad at first glance but when you understand that nuclear and hydro electric power represent 82% of our supply whereas green sources only represent 9% of our supply, it makes me question whether spending all this money on green sources will ever have a positive payback for Ontario residents with no connection to energy supply. Lastly, I also downloaded the Hourly Ontario Electricity Price for 2015 year to date. What shocked me the most were the huge fluctuations in the hourly cost of electricity. For instance, the hourly price of electricity at 9 AM on 2 Oct 2015 was 1053.11 cents/kWh while the price on the same day at 8 AM was 34.3 cents/kWh. Can you shed any light on the cause for such huge fluctuations.
  11. Received notification today of new electricity rates effective 1 Nov 2015 for households and small businesses: Off-peak will be 8.3 cents/kWh Mid-peak will be 12.8 cents/kWh On-peak will be 17.5 cents/kWh Rates effective 1 Nov 2013 (just 2 years ago) were: Off- peak was 7.2 cents/kWh Mid-peak was 10.9 cents/kWh On-peak was 12.9 cents/kWh These new prices represent the following percentage increases since 1 Nov 2013: Off-peak 15.3% Mid-peak 17.4% On-peak 35.6% Not sure whom to blame but I'm sure thinking about it!
  12. Thanks for another great report Bunk. Pictures were much appreciated, especially those of the specks. Thanks for sharing.
  13. Yes, Craig, our group has fished out of Club Trout Lake (CTL) for the last 9 years. We have never fished the big lake, Lac à la Truite. The first 7 years, we stayed on Lac Bay. We also fished Lac Pierre, the next lake over via a 100 yard portage from Lac Bay. In 2014 we fished Lac Winawiash for the first time and we returned there this past Aug. Our group departs tomorrow morning for a week (9-16 Sep) of walleye fishing on Lac Kikwissi (a lake about 18 miles SSW of the CTL main lodge). Hope we both have good trips. Jay
  14. Hi Craig, Which lake are you fishing at Club Trout Lake? Four of us fished Lac Winawiash 15-21 Aug. Two days of high humidex (high 80's) and one all day thunder storm curtailed our fishing to essentially 3 days out of 6. Still had fun. Jay
  15. My deepest condolences to you and your family Wayne. Jen's story touched and inspired us.
  16. So very very sorry to hear this latest news Wayne.
  17. Take a look at http://www.chevreuilblanc.com/#!home/c1rka - it is located just west of Val-des-Bois, Quebec
  18. My day was a heck of a lot better than your day Lew! So sorry to hear of your ordeal. One just never knows when something unwarranted or uninvited is going to happen that can impact your life as you know it. Suffice to say that I'm happy to hear about your timely excellent care and that you're feeling somewhat better.
  19. I really enjoyed these photos you shared today. Thanks Simon.
  20. We did a 9 day fly into the Gouin, Quebec region in late June last year. We buried our crawlers (100 per plastic container) in holes we dug in the shade under the cabin and covered the containers with about 6 inches of soil/compost. We used a small Cryopak in each container to keep the crawlers cool. We still had active crawlers at the end of the trip. As for an alternative artificial bait, try a 5 inch PowerBait Ripple Shad or a 3.25" Pulse-R Paddle Tail by Authentic X series plastics.
  21. Thanks Drew for making the time to put this report together. Like all the other posters have stated, your report is a real beauty - a super enjoyable read.
  22. I've been using a Lowrance HDS-7 since 2009. It's my understanding that, at speed, fish show up as vertical lines.
