  1. I was going to PM you but apparently my pm privileges have been disabled. This is my first look at this forum since I left and wanted to thank you for asking an important question back in April. I only came to check out bigugli's dog attack thread but then found that when I searched my username. Thanks again for asking and taking the heat so elegantly.

  2. They are trouble for our fishery. The shores used to get covered three feet thick when the die offs occured and they had to stock salmon just to control em. You can't use them as bait dead or alive in Lakes that don't have them because they spread like gobies and zebra muscles. Take as many as you can. Check the guide to eating sport fish though
  3. The Welland River is basically a reservoir for the hydro facilities on the Niagara River. When hydro demands change the river often flows backwards up to a certain elevation.
  4. That's awesome We did the classroom hatchery in Stevensville for the last two years but they died both times. The kids were upset but gained an even greater respect for the environment. They're more determined than ever to keep our streams clean. This year the school is trying a third time but have the tank in the hall instead of the class. This way the whole school gets to watch.
  5. Yup I let my kids shoot it and if one brings a friend they can shoot it too. Amazing to see these tough wannabe gangster whiteboys shake like a leaf when shooting an actual gun for the first time Hey if your pants are hanging down to your crotch it'll be easier if you hold it an inch off your shoulder and lean back - kidding Hey but lets not give the libs any stupid ideas or you'll need a licence just to hold the dam thing. No one new will ever try
  6. Thanks for that RC something new for me to check out. It's never the top hits on an album that resonate with me. Here's one just for fun <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/82e4ijU6cRk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  7. This ones a moderate everyone can enjoy. It rarely leaves my head anymore and is a favourite to whistle while kayaking <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/hTz4MwfPSaA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  8. Now that was a reasonable argument. Thank you With that said if they could implement it without it costing millions of dollars a year it might be acceptable. That but of coarse they have to be able to keep the information out of the wrong hands.
  9. The money spent on the G*-G20 summit was equally stupid. If you could scrap spending that kind of money on the next summit you'd be all over it. Ya I see a thread about washing machines that better fits a fishing websites description. Lets not talk about politicians who are going to ban the weapons we already use to hunt with. It's a good topic that needs to never die. There are many other examples of government waste and stupid laws that need to be kept alive. If we can't discuss them like gentlemen perhaps we should get kicked off the forums altogether and stay out of public. Come on we're not a bunch of Archie Bunkers here. We should be embarrassed as adults if this thread gets closed.
  10. nice haul of fish Aaron! Here's what the stain looks like today <embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid190.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz252%2Fwildniagara%2FApril18th2011.mp4">
  11. There's still plenty of ice in the Lake although yesterdays strong South wind has it packed up against the shoreline but it's not over yet. Actually that wind probably prevented a clean flush and it will now take a lot longer. In the long run its probably better for the lake as it will keep the temps down longer and the Niagara River will hold the big trout longer
  12. OK no cormorants in the sequel. I think the nasty breaker chased them away If you like my video's please subscribe. BTW the Upper is toast for awhile but it's got a nice stain so if you can find an opening hit it
  13. http://www.youtube.com/user/wildniagara I'll be adding a video tonight of the river after the first few booms came out. This video was 2 days before that. Just a few cormorants in this video for your pleasure. The Upper Niagara River will be shot for at least a week now.
  14. Nothing to see here just trying to do something positive but the trolls have come out and highjacked yet another otherwise productive thread. See you guys around the water or woods.
  15. The St Catharines game and fish site is only down due to the domain name hosting but can still be viewed by going to http://scgameandfish.proboards.com/ If your bookmark is scgameandfish.net it will not open. We'll have this corrected as soon as possible. If you hear of anyone who can't open the site please suggest they add the dot proboards to the url to get in for now. Thank you scgameandfish Admin
  16. What a crappy deal. The MNR couldn't afford to do a good job so we agree to pay userfees to add to fish and wildlife funding. They say thank you very much then pull their share of the funding. Now we're on the hook for F&W funding and can't do it on selected public lands because the MNR would rather promote tourism. How much money are they pulling fro the tourism budget to fund fish and wildlife project! I say we all tell them to scrap the idea or we refuse to renew our licences or buy hunt tags. They can manage the excess bears that tourists feed and deal with the CWD with the money the outfitters earn off this deal. I keep hearing no one is speaking up for the anglers and hunters in Ontario but how many would actually stand in solidarity and not buy a licence until this ministry got its head on straight?
  17. I sent my zone rep an email. The last time I did that in Niagara on the Lake the OFAH came right down to check out the area and met with the municipality presenting at a town meeting. Many of us on NFN also submitted letters to the town and some had it added to the minutes. I spoke personally on the phone with the mayor who was very upset this was happening as he fished that spot for years. It was all in vain though and we lost. As we were all discussing the situation and the threat of starting a trend some ignorant slobs were filling the place with trash and crapping in the neighbours gardens. Yes they were fishermen and aside from the dinner plates and napkins left behind the next biggest item was fishing trash. We are a disgrace and we need to clean up our act. Now only NOTL residents can get a permit to fish there.
  18. Someone just put this up on my board but I think this is a provincial matter not just in Niagara. If this has already been discussed here please post the topic link thanks. This is a very short read and many other sites get more in depth. It's the last paragraph that bothers me. To me this is a Government agency selling access to a private company(s) on crown land. It just doesn't sit well even if the "Majority" of lands are accessable by all. Close the roads and keep it remote but don't deny access by other means http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/Canada/20110123/crown-land-blocked-110123/ Has anyone else heard of the Ontario Outdoors Recreational Alliance?
  19. This one seems to be the forum favourite
  20. It was the slobs that closed Niagara on the Lake also. The Lake Erie side roads get trashed every year by these so called outdoorsmen. They can afford high end SUV's, ATV's, huts, and snowmobiles but they couldn't buy manners if you offered them for free. Never mind bylaws if I was a resident on this road I'd be slashing their tires! Be careful about parking on the road as some municipalities have bylaws preventing this during the winter months. Check with the local hall first. Aaron good on you for sending that letter and I will add my voice despite the tire slashing comment. I am an angler first but I recognize it's the disrespectful jerks among us who really do give us what we deserve. We not only need to lobby the government here but we need to lobby ourselves too. Too many of us see the littering going on or the guy revving the sled in front of someones house at early hours and we say nothing. Lets make sure we promote respect throughout the angling community. We can't say we're not at all at fault here as an angling community. Yes you have a right to launch your sled there but have some dam respect for the locals or this is going to start happening more and more. Get as mad as you want but until you realize you and your rights are not the only ones that matter your going to see this kind of thing continue. On another note if we should be at all upset at the municipality we should be going after them for taking the easy route. In my letter I'll tell them I understand but greater efforts should be taken to deter this kind of behavour in the first place. Also I agree that this looks very unwelcoming to the entire municipality not just the dock and I will refuse to spend a dime there until they reverse it. Residents only is insulting. I still haven't spent any money in NOTL and I won't and I suggest neither does anybody here.
