http://www.lanzshootingsupplies.com/ Lanz is right on the silverdale gun range so you can site it in right there. St Annes/Smithville. Also Erie Tracker in Port C. They're popular because they have good service. I thought one of the biggest gun movers was a store in your area Kitchener I believe. Hey don't buy cheap. get something recommended. I bought the mossberg 500 combo and I'm not very happy with the shot pattern or noise of the pump mechanism. Should have listened and spent another $150 bucks.
  3. Good call, Wow I like the reflect too. Thanks
  4. If OFC doesn't want the additional traffic leave it the way it is. It's not like the guys who go directly to the general section will be affected. They'll still go directly to the general section. The attitude of "love it or leave it" and "here we go again" is unfortunate here. There are the regulars who are too eager to come down on any new ideas or not so regulars. That is why I'm a not so regular. Subtract all the unnecessary negativism from this thread and it would have disappeared within an hour. Good Idea but I don't know why I wasted 10 minutes of my life reading the whole thing.
  5. PLEASE change the forum skin.

  7. I used a bow. There was a small slice off the heart and both lungs were deflated. There was basically an open cavity full of blood when I got there with a triangular hole on either side. Thank you for your advice guys. Next deer I'm definitely try the organs. If I'm not too thrilled, I'll send them with the rest of the deer to go in the sausage. That's my favorite part so far . Boy I gotta watch I don't eat all this by months end. I noticed I smell different the next day too . Whew I love venison but the wife sure doesn't
  8. I wonder though how the Indians did it before all these chemicals made it easy. I'd like to do it as naturally as possible. The tip about freezing twice is well received, thank you. Borax also prevents any flesh from rotting. We used it on fish skin for taxidermy but rinse it well when it comes to the point of wrapping the skin on the mount.
  9. You knew that Dan (KF) Hopefully I can harvest the Oysters for you before the 31st. If I do, they're all yours So from what I'm reading, perhaps I should call the OMNR for advice about eating deer organs from the area. but based on a moral call, it goes without saying. This will be tough for me because I don't wish to waste anything I don't have to. I asked for a the scraps back from the butcher and am trying to figure out what to do with the feet and bones out in my shed.
  10. First deer. Excited and just glad I got the guts out without indecent. That and I wasn't sure. Next year they'll be joining the sausage for sure.
  11. Borax can be purchased in the laundry detergent Ilse but using laundry detergent will eat your pelt. It's good to see you experimenting but make sure you know if you require the free license from the MNR that allows you to posses a pelt out of season. Just a precaution. Also review the rules about possessing a pelt. I find it confusing so I won't try to explain it myself.
  12. A google search should help but personally I saturate luke warm water with borax and soak them for a few days. I them partially dry them while rubbing any meat or fat off with powdered borax. Keep the skin damp until the hyde is cleaned enough to dry. I'll let someone else help you with the drying part. I'm not very good at keeping it stretched or properly shaped but I have skins and pelts successfully done this way.
  13. I know you should not consume any spinal tissue or brains from cervids but is it normal to eat the heart, liver or kidney's? I left mine in the field from my first deer but returned 2 days later and collected them for the local cat rescue. Would it be more ethical to eat them or is it normal to leave them for the coyotes. Yes two days. It took 4 for the coyotes to find the remains. They were cleaned up in one sitting and they didn't take the bloody cotton gloves
  14. Some of you guys should start an outfitters business for photographers. You know instead of taking them hunting or fishing, you bring them to places like that to take photos. Huge money in bird watching. Why not natural captures?
  15. Wow. Any jobs up there, I wanna move somewhere like that!
  16. That's what I'm talking about Cool nuzzling shot. Not spooked in the least. Must have been OOS!
  17. Nice pics Brandon as usual. I was offered $5G for airfare to go to BC with the family this summer and always wanted to go to Queen Charlotte but to get there and back it would have cost us $10 just for the plane. Perhaps when the kids get older.
  18. Brandon I'm a fan of your photography. I'd like to give you a tip. Learn how to hunt without a weapon and you'll get the best results! Tracking to locate high traffic areas will allow you to pick the perfect location for a tree stand or ground blind. If I wasn't a hunter I'd have some stunning shots right now. In particular I wish I could have photo'd the fawn trying to climb my Son's tree stand for a closer sniff. Or the two fawns that met beneath my stand with their curious introductions, nuzzling and body language. I've had birds land on my head and a chicadee within a foot of my face just reading me the riot act for looking like tree. My Son was nearly attacked by a coopers hawk. It must have though his leafy hat was a squirrels nest. If he hadn't swatted it with his bow he might have got some scratches. Many times I wished I had a camera instead of a weapon. You can hang a treestand at any level of a tree. Add a pile of apples and your going to get some awesome shots. I always see more wildlife without the bow. Murphy's law. I bet if you try this approach, you'll drive the hunters nuts with your photos. Here's the kind of thing I see out of season! http://video.google.ca/videosearch?q=deer+...emb=0&aq=f#
  19. Hey Brandon, If you want to enjoy them at home, go to a local conservation club and pick up a wood duck box. I found many screech owls while cleaning duck boxes along the creeks in winter. Seeing as they nest in February its good to wait until later in the season to clean the boxes. This screech is my new resident this year 30 feet up my oak in the back yard. We can view him from the diningroom window while eating diner or breakfast. Here's last years screech. Much cuter than this years. There's more of these right in town than most would think.
  20. Make sure you call and report it to the OMNR! and Jeremy Holden [email protected] If you catch any more, consider taking a scale and forward to the above contacts. This is the best way to ensure research and monitoring.
  21. They should cancel the fall hunt too! Let them bruins migrate South to where the kind hearted ignorance originated. You know the place where the population is its thickest and they never have to deal with the eyes they claim to love and don't want to kill them even if they do get eaten! Amazing the hysteria when one bear comes to town yet you hicks in the North can live with them just fine. If anyone has suitable land and a bear problem please PM me as I would like to bring my junior apprentice North for a bear this year. We just don't have a place to go. Dan
  22. Still no opinion here. As you were
  23. Izumi but I really appreciated Lonnie King when he was on. Same reason as Lew's choice. All Fishing an No bull.
