  1. I just got a call from Gary Boroughs. He was pretty snarky insisting I am part of a big misunderstanding. When I asked why fishing must remain in the wording he said it doesn't matter because it's fenced off so no one can go in now. Apparently a local is pressuring them to let him fish there as he has done for the past 30 or so years so the word angling stays. I told him I'll still oppose it if they don't add picnicing and camping to the wording. He snarled "fine I'll add your letter to the meeting next week, good day". Rick I'm hoping you'll take the lead on this one and register as a delegation. All you need to do is convince council to make a small ammendment in the wording. Gary assured me that the property will be private very soon but also stated that this is not a precedent for them. I'm not sure when the meeting is and didn't ask him as he was obviously unhappy with my dissagreement. Dan
  2. Come December there may be a city chain going across the ramp Last call! Here's a little web site I put together. G&F Check out the latest news letter. Volunteers are over taxed and it's starting to show. Please do one thing if you can or she be gone Just the facts Dan
  3. I researched this last year. I agree it's a coopers rather than a sharp shin. The shinny is about the size of a large blue jay and the coopers is about the size of o young crow. The coopers are often found with broken bones as they dive bomb and crash through branches to catch sparrows etc. When they eat my neighbours pigeons they leave nothing but feet and the seed in the pigeons stomache. The one in your picture looks like it is sitting on an umbrella tree. Around my neighbourhood that's where I see them doing the most bussiness. I think the little birds feel safer there.
  4. This is horse crap. You can not accept this or the Mississippi example will be the next step. If they want to close this dock to everybody until they get it figured out then fine but don't allow these snobs to keep fishing in the wording! These creatans who are trashing the place are going to ruin it for everyone. If you see anyone tossing fishing trash, don't avoid the confrontation unless your with kids or something. We gotta stop these idiots from spoiling it for all of us. Tell them to pick up their crap or bring their Mama to clean up after them. This is personal to at least one Councilor. He insists on keeping fishing in the wording. You know the neighbour who complained actually was harassed by these jerks because his outside light was burned out making it harder for these losers to tie a knot? No wonder he's taking this as a personal battle with the angling community. Only thing is these are not sportsmen. They are someone who need to be taken out of our description all together. We as anglers need to not only correct this situation but not allow ourselves to get lumped in with these complete morons who are causing residents and polititians to hate us. Take fishing out of the bilaw before it spreads. And if you know your one of the slobs that does this crap to us either smarten up or STAY HOME!
  5. This is one of the smartest things I've evr heard There are mink on the break wall in Port Colbourne but they have no effect on the numbers of cormorants. One of the bassmaster groups told me they were thinking of putting up an osprey nest as these birds of prey deter the cormorants. Unfortunately the ospreys don't like the man made platforms. One of the best things they could do for that breakwall is cut those dead trees down........ and drop a couple of coons on there.
  6. The OFAH is meeting with the Mayor tomorrow to try and have "fishing" removed from the wording as this is strictly a land use restriction. It is important to prevent this precedent although at this point it looks like it's going to be more of a correction because this has already been passed by Council at this point. Lets see what the OFAH can get done and if that fails we'll see how many will actually put their money where their mouth is and show up at a meeting to discuss this with Council. I will gladly register as a delegation. Just remember though, the neighbour who complained does have a legitmate problem and he deserves our support. Not to deter fishing but to correct an uncomfortable situation which everynight this whole Town has to deal with and clean up after. I feel a much bigger battle from within our community coming and I hope we're all willing to deal with it respectfully and rationally.
  7. This is why it is so important to pick up litter in our fishing spots. Especially fishing litter. This is not a unique problem it is everywhere. Niagara on the Lake is especially hard hit. I helped a 11 year old boy do a clean up at the sand docks last year. He invited the media and pleaded with anglers not to close another good spot by littering. It changed nothing! We have got to get the message out to our angling communities and if be needed, report litterers when we see them because asking them nicely doesn't sink in. These fools will eventually close public access to water everywhere. Rick I will send a letter off to Town Council and discuss this with my club in Fort Erie. Perhaps we can send a letter in on behalf of our Towns anglers. Maybe our Town Council can sign it also. Dan Andrews
  8. Thanks for the replies guys. I'm surprised I didn't see more pike. Salmonoids and walleye seem to dominante the replies. I haven't got out too much this weekend so no pics from me. My kid keeps winning these hocky games so maybe no fishing for 2 weeks!!! Great pics :worthy: Hey Dan I love your camera. Nice shots.
  9. All fishing, ice/stream/boat etc Just looking to see how guys make out on artificials. It may be possible that it's mandatory soon so lets see if there are any success stories out there on a regular basis. I would however say that the ice pics will be the hardest to come by. Prove me wrong and show us how you did it Dan
  10. Well with the VHS topic hot the MNR has already hinted that if things are as bad as they suspect, live bait fish including all auquatic baits (leeches, crayfish, frogs etc.) may be banned within 2 years. Your live bait may be reduced to maggots, worms, crickets etc. This thread is not a VHS thread however. With the possibility however that it may cause the discontinued use of live baits, I've started this thread for catches using artificials only. Post your pictures where you used stick/body baits, plastics, spoons, fly's etc without tipping with live bait of any kind including worms. Now Fishmaster I know this will be a tough one to stay out of but please guys............... lets limit the replies to artificial catches only and refrain from reopening the live bait debate.......... get it? I'm going to try to hit the ice tomorrow between games and I'll bring the camera. Hopefully I'll put up the first post. Oh ya tell us what you used and if you can get it in the picture is even better Dan
  11. Win 2 Tickets to this years Musky Odyssey in St Catharines on April 14th! A ticket will be drawn at the end of our general meeting on Feb 6th to determine who gets to go with a friend to the biggest Musky event in the province. Visit: muskiescanada.ca for details.
  12. There are allot of restrictions and proceedures in place for bait dealers already. BAO Bait Association of Ontario. Look it up. I think they are concerned about us spreading the mess the ships are making in the great lakes by using live bait inland. The bait dealers are alot more policed then the licenced angler. Sugestion? Don't be part of the problem. Clean your bilge and livewells between water bodies, and never dump your unused bait in the water. Please.... don't break the bait restriction rules set in place with the VHS ban. It makes us all look wreckless and ignorant!
  13. I heard from an insider that live bait fish, frogs and crays will be banned within two years. This isn't a bad idea environmentally but it will have big economical impacts.
