  1. Just watched a screening of a documentary about Lyme disease. I recommend it to all outdoors people so you know the signs and can figure out the medical system enough to get diagnosed and properly treated. It is amazing to see the Bull politics in medicine these days. <embed src='http://www.myproducer.tv//jw_media_player/mediaplayer.swf' height='350' width='530' allowscriptaccess='always' allowfullscreen='true' flashvars='&autostart=true&bandwidth=7075&dock=false&file=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myproducer.tv%2FUploaded%2F816%2FFLV%2F03dae23a-228d-4c3b-aefd-0e1194fb28fd.flv&image=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myproducer.tv%2FUploaded%2F816%2FThumbs%2F03dae23a-228d-4c3b-aefd-0e1194fb28fd.png&level=0&plugins=viral-2d&quality=high'/>
  2. Last year i spent two serious sits in the bush not flinching a muscle and twice a tom walked right behind me until I had to come out at 7pm (6:59 for the sticklers)to chance a shot. Aint happening. Third time in I brought my figgity stir crazy son who couldn't stop whispering. Then he says "there's one" and I stood up and shot it. Ya all the books and experience in the world and this guy just walks in and shoots one . Really nice bird there Rich. I'd be tempted to buy my second tag just to get more time in the bush behind the hammer. You got all summer to start golfing.
  3. The St Catharines Game and Fish are accepting wild turkey feathers, wings and tails, at the boat ramp. seems some native dancers are using them for decorating their costumes. http://scgameandfish.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=299
  4. Thanks for the advice that worked! WJ we're a small localized board So really; any turkey pictures yet?
  5. In Fort Erie I watched two large rainbow trout exhibiting spawning behavior the day before opener. This was in a small mud bottom creek that was nearly dry and they were stuck in a pool with no way out. On the flip side the DFO found YOY pike well upstream and said they already had some size and figured they had spawned extra early.
  6. i love that dog
  7. Hi my name is Dan Andrews and I have recently acquired niagarafishing.net from Rick Dubas. Tonight the site went down and I had recently just explained to my members that if it went down I'd drop a message off here to let them know what the deal was. So with permission from the mods here I can tell you that the techies have my server ripped apart for repairs and we'll be back online as soon as they find that little screw. Hopefully once they get it back together they won't have any parts leftover Thank goodness we are all members of OFC anyway. I'm hoping that if this site ever goes down I'll be asked to return the favour for this site. So has anyone bagged a wild turkey yet? Dan
  8. I wouldn't want a CO's job. Sure you get to bust the degenerate poachers who abuse the resources I want to protect but it's gotta take it's toll on your respect for society in general. There are so many who abuse the resources; the CO's must just be discusted by the end of every working day.
  9. No matter what the fps your best advice is to practice with whatever you get as often as possible. My son and I go under a bridge on the railway to simulate being in a tree stand and shooting downward because the downward angle is different. Read your last Ontario out of Doors mag for those details. Practice practice practice. I have an Excaliber Vortex and I upscaled the scope abit. I use the cocking aid religiously as this ensures a consistant pull everytime. I also protect that scope so it doesn't get a jolt while traveling through the bush. Ten point is also a crossbow made in Canada according to the merchant in Port Colbourne. It can't be dryfired. To my knowledge neither ten point or excaliber use nocks. Since I bought my excal I've filled my tags and with the perfect shot. I'd never pull the trigger otherwise.

  11. Right below the coal docks is a man made peninsula. Fish the current edge on the downstream side. Bait off the bottom to avoid goby's and a bobber works just fine. Waverly ruins are good too for carp, sheepshead and bass. What would you like to target?
  12. http://wellandtribune.ca/ Cambridge man charged with dangerous boating on Niagara River Posted By GRANT LaFLECHE/Sun Media NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE — Niagara Regional Police take reckless boating on local waterways seriously. Really, really seriously. For the past three weeks, NRP detectives from the marine unit worked to hunt down a boater who fled the U.S. Coast Guard and cut off Canadian boaters in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The investigation saw the officers gathering information from Niagara, Alberta, northern Ontario and Florida. “It sends a message that the Niagara Regional Police will ensure that the waterways which we patrol are made safe for all boaters,” NRP spokeswoman Const. Jacquie Forgeron said. The investigation began July 5, about 6:50 p.m., when the U.S. Coast Guard called the NRP after a cigarette boat avoided attempts to board it on the Niagara River and fled into Canadian waters. Forgeron said the boat, a $600,000 Nor-Tech vessel that can travel at nearly 130 km/h, escaped the U.S. officers and headed to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Sailing Club. “They were docking to get fuel and in the process caused many boaters in the area to be cut off,” she said. One of the two men on the boat used a credit card to pay for gasoline, and before the pair sped off they shouted to everyone nearby to pay attention. “They told everyone to watch because they were going to run rings around the coast guard,” Forgeron said. “Several witnesses took photos of the boat before it left.” By the time the NRP got a boat from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the offending vessel had been hauled out of the water and taken away on a trailer. However, police had the witness photos, which included the boat’s licence number, and the credit card number used to pay for the gas. With the help of the RCMP in Alberta, the detectives tracked the cardholder to a person in that province, Forgeron said. The detectives also contacted a Nor-Tech distributor in northern Ontario. Forgeron said the distributor said the vessel had not been sold there, but to try a Nor-Tech office in Florida. “The detectives were able to get good leads from there,” Forgeron said. After detectives pulled all the threads together, they arrested a Cambridge man on Wednesday. Shawn Reid, 35, is charged with dangerous operation of a vessel. He was released on bail Thursday and is scheduled to make another court appearance on Sept. 15. Forgeron did not know if the U.S. Coast Guard will lay charges. Article ID# 1670069

  14. The OFAH is running a survey to collect angler attitudes and knowledge about sturgeon and sturgeon fishing in Ontario. Responses are being solicited from sturgeon anglers and non-sturgeon anglers alike. To access the survey please go to www.ofah.org/sturgeon The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete. Please forward to any other angling friends you have in your address book or post on message boards that you frequent (already on a couple). I am hoping to solicit responses from as far reaching in Ontario and those outside Ontario that fish in Ontario. A summary of the survey can be found in the magazine for those without internet access or I can provide a pdf copy which can be printed and mailed in also. If you have any questions or comments beyond what is captured in the survey feel free to direct them to me at the contact information below. ps. - for those that have were part of the 'test' audience -- this link is now for the 'real' survey. Please complete this version as data from the previous survey will not be utilized. 15. Woke my Wife up. Your going to hear me screaming from Toronto if you do that again . She'll be whacking the back of my head with these speakers!
  16. Someones domestics have been well fed on the Upper Niagara. Almost four different species in one shot.
  17. Boy that last one was huge looking. Looks like the family guy of ducks.
  18. Some decent action shots for sure. That storm really helped cool the lake down but mucked everything up something awful. On the bright side it washed the algae clean off the bottom.
  19. Hey that works. Maybe I can install the "box cam" and earn by the click. The name would generate the traffic.
  20. Can't forget one of the angry blue jays. Soft looking bum
  21. I have seen many things using my wood duck box in the front yard. The other day about 20 blue jays went nuts on it because of the owl inside. I always find blue jay and cardinal beaks and feathers when I clean the boxes. About 3 hatches of starlings were born there last year. Squirrels kicked the owl out but they later traded again. The squirrels now own the back yard box instead. He has his eyes open for once. Screech owl supper has dropped in. This squirrel is bloody but he won his home. Despite -11 C these bees were still buzzing over the creek. I know its too big dear but it doesn't hurt to be curious does it? Signs of the target species.
  22. Mr Mackie is the victim of an appointed agency that some of its board members are in direct conflict with the mandate they serve. Aggregate companies and developers are in charge of protecting the Niagara Escarpment! Apparently the archery business that plants 100's of trees is more detrimental to the escarpment then the clear cut farmer that filed the complaint. http://home.cogeco.ca/~wildniagara/06113d1-1.pdf
  23. I vote coopers. Sharp shins are more pigeon sized. These Coopers will crash through the brush in pursuit of their prey. They've been captured with multiple fractures in their chest due to their high speed chases in the brush. We have a healthy population of Cooper's hawks in Niagara.
  24. I received this email this morning from Bob and got permission to share it with my fellow hunters.
  25. Who can get the closest to 19? http://www.ontarioanglerawards.com/ I got my walleye yesterday but forgot to measure it.
