  1. Simcoe, Cooks and VB will be cutting it close but smaller lakes should be safe very soon.
  2. Where do you get the perch on Island? (Won't ask about pike. Thats just rude) all I've ever gotten there is a frozen rear end. (PM if you don't feel comfortable posting here?)
  3. Thats a good point. I'd honestly wait until Cooks freezes over. I've never had anyone have a bad time when the school of perch come rushing in.
  4. If you can make the drive, Bay o Quinte will be frozen.
  5. Well said. Pretty sure my first post (and the reason why I joined) was to ask about ice fishing. Not spots, but gear, ice safety etc. Speaking of, look at the temperatures across Ontario. I get the feeling I'll be on hard water next weekend. WOO HOO!!!!! Going to edit and add a little bit. I don't mind as much when people ask for specific spots or tips. I feel like the worst case scenario is we ignore the person or say 'thats not the way it works.' and those who are genuinely interested in the forum apologize while people who are gold digging tend to leave. What bothers me the most is when newbies come on the forum and say 'How is the fishing on lake X' or 'looking for a spot on lake Y' because those are the things that come up on the top of a google search. I find for smaller lakes, this can be more of the kiss of death then telling one person a primo spot. If a newbie comes on the forum and says 'How is the fishing on Lake X' and someone responds 'Lake X has bass, walleye and muskie' that can sometimes be enough to sway a dozen anglers to try lake X. If the fishing is good, they keep coming back and keep taking their limit, who knows how much long term fishing pressure this may cause.
  6. Holy cow! A) The leafs are on fire. Back to back wins against Crosby and McDavid B ) Oilers should be nervous that they got shut out by a backup goalie. C) I thought it was tough to be a leafs fan. Imagine how angry you'd be if you were an Oilers fan right now?
  7. Oh man does that get the itch going. Very nicely done.
  8. Fascinating. Some really good reads and well written articles. Thanks for sharing. I guess there is no 'Quick Fix' or simple soloution to slow down global warming and reduce the effects of greenhouse gasses. : /
  9. Makes total sense. I really really like this idea. doesn't add anything extra for the fish or line to get stuck on.
  10. They said it'll be the equivalent of taking 130 000 cars off the road every year in terms of CO2 emissions. Though i feel they need to stop screwing over the consumer to try and be more environmentally friendly, at least they are trying to pretend they are doing something about this.
  11. Also a non-garbage hard ice fishing storage locker. It blows my mind. Soft ones large enough to fit rods and reels, then my hooks get caught on the fabric. Hard ones are only big enough for rods and not for reels.
  12. An Ice fishing 'net' I'll explain how it works. You drill your ice fishing hole (6 inch, 8 inch, whatever) then you slide this tube down the hole right on the inside. Anchors to the top. The tube could be 24-36 inches. When you are reeling the fish up and you get it to the top of the ice, you hit a button (either on the tube or a remote control) and the bottom of the tube closes up. Lift the tube out of the water (tube has water drain holes at the bottom) and you have your fish. I'd have a dozen or so trophie Lakers and whitefish I wouldn't have lost at the ice if this exsisted. I'll take 5% of the profits for giving you the idea.
  13. Sweet. Lets plan it out. The drive to the parking spot was where I showed you last year. Wouldn't be very far from your place either. Snow is a little deep there. Bring your snowshoes.
  14. I tried my smitty sled last year to get there. There is a good trail packed down but sadly its packed down by a local trapper that has an Argo (super nice guy). Problem with that is my smitty doesn't straddle or sit inside of the tracks very well. I ended up having it tip over about a dozen times the last time I went and I never ended up making it down to the lake. (hence this is kinda my last resort to make it). Plus (there is always a plus) there is a little stream down to the lake that never freezes over. I can cross safely but when I did last year, the bottom of the sled got wet and picked up a ton of snow.
  15. After many years of thinking and contemplating over this, I've decided that this winter, I want to hike into a little back lake that has been on my radar for years, camp overnight, ice fish the next morning and then head out the next afternoon. The lake is only about 1.5 kilometers off of the highway and there will be cell reception on the lake (I've fished neighboring lakes and had 4 bars. I'd be shocked if this is a dead zone) but I will be going by myself. (No one crazy enough to join me.) Has anyone done this or anything like this before? I'll have limited space in my backpack after loading up my fishing gear. I figure I'll need a way to start a fire, (Probably multiple different ways, matches, lighter etc) a warm change of dry clothes, a small snow shovel to make my structure with, some easy to eat food and water, toilet paper. Any tips/advice (other then 'Don't do it!!") greatly appreciated. I won't be going until probably mid January or February.
  16. Nice fish. Counting down the days till lady S ice fishing. Winter is coming.
  17. Super cool Chad. Thanks for sharing these.
  18. Someone should photoshop McMcabe into this photo.
  19. Holy smokes Joey. So jealous. Beauty fishing so far.
  20. Another time I'm going to fish a well known lake in Barrie. There was an area I always thought was a park path on to the ice. Turns out it was a stream as I learned on this day when I went through it. Only to my hip but I had no way to dry off and warm up. Ended my day real fast.
  21. Leaving Simcoe a few years ago we are walking back and there is a massive pressure crack. It's getting dark and we can't see where is safe to cross. I see some orange spray paint and say 'the orange X must be where it is safe to cross' (famous last words) an entire sheet of ice tilts up as I step on it, I thought for sure I was going to slide off under the ice and be totally screwed. Thankfully I was able to get back into firm ice before it was too late. My buddy had a good laugh once he realized I wasn't going to die.
  22. Taylor Hall could have been Austin Matthews. Connor McDavid should be better then Austin Matthews. Edmonton has no excuse. If I was a fan there i would be miserable. If leafs management waste Austin Mathews talent I'll feel the same about Toronto.
  23. There is usually a reason someone only tells you the teams they hate and not the ones they like. Bowslayer, did you jump on the Avs bandwagon when they left QC? I wouldn't let anyone know I like them now either.
  24. Love how all the leafs haters feel we're picking on the other Canadian teams now that the leafs are playing well. Where were you from 2005 to 2015? Any other team had that kind of incompetence and the ownership would move them to (ugh) Seattle. Now the leafs actually ice a decent team and everyone else gets butthurt because we finally have someone to cheer for.
