Fishing is never a waste of time!!! Sitting here wondering if you should go is though.....lol. I say go for it!! Sinker

Salerno is not bad for fishing. I've only fished it a few times though. We did ok on eyes, and had a few muskies follow, but no takers. I know they do better thru the ice for eyes, but we did fine in may. All kinds of bass. Great area for a cottage too. Your close to lots of great water. More than you can fish in a lifetime. I had a buddy with a place on fortesque, and its pretty good too. There are a few portage in lakes around there as well. We get into some splake there one time......I can't remember exactly where we were, but I know it was accessed from fotescue lake. Sinker

Nice! Do you know what the water temp was? What kind of depth were you fishing? Any colour produce better than others? My opener was slower than usual, but we managed a few for dinner. My old man is on his way here from the rock right now. We'll be slayin slabs this weekend in the rain, and chasin pickeral next weekend. Can't freakin wait!!! Thanks for the report! Sinker

That's gotta be worse than fishing with marshmallows? It never surprises me the things you see on the tribs. I'm glad I don't fish them any more. Sinker

My dog would bark because he was happy to see you. Maybe the dog is just looking for attention?? Have you tried approaching it? Mine would also bark when you put your boots on to leave.........crazy dog! Sinker

Just a reminder This Sunday at Big Cliff's
Sinker replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
If we're up there on sunday, we'll stop in for sure. I may be able to make it to help, it just depends what the old boy wants to do that day. I'll let ya know for sure either way. Sinker -
Just a reminder This Sunday at Big Cliff's

I can't say for sure Cliff. My dad is going to be here this weekend. I"m not sure what his plans are yet. I know he's itching to get at his boat at the marina, so if we're in the area, we'll come by and see if your still around. If anything changes, and I can make it for sure, I'll let ya know for sure. I hear ya. This cold sucks. Looks like the pickeral opener is gonna be a hot crappie bite......I've yet to hit the bog for crappies on openwater.....and its the closest lake to me!! I can be at pine point in like 20 mins. Sinker

Nice slabs! I think the pickeral opener is going to be killer for slabs this year. There were no new weeds on rice this weekend either. It was slow fishing, but we managed enough for dinner. Thanks for the report! Sinker

My dad uses the spray nine on his boat vinyl as well.......he swears by it. Not sure about using it on painted surfaces, but on his boat vinyl it works great. Armour All might be another thing to try? I know it protects from UV, but not sure if it will clean. It sure makes my van shine up nice Sinker

Did you hit the bog for opener this year? I've heard mixed reviews about the crappies in there. We did well with them thru the ice, but haven't tried on openwater. A buddy who lives on teh lake said it was slow this year compared to last......just wondering how you made out if you did fish it? Sinker

Rice and the Tri-lakes are prolly tops in the kawartha's. Sinker

How was the parking/launching situation at Simcoe? Is the township still charging to park there? Sounds like you had a great day! Sinker

Yup, sounds like a fuel issue to me. Check your fuel filter/lines. Something is blocked or sucking air by the sounds of things. Sinker

We got ours in similar areas. Water temp started at 58 at noon, and dropped the whole time we were there. Not much, but it was colder when we left. The south shore was the coldest we saw at 55. Sinker
-
Drop backs are usually more willing to bite than fish that haven't yet spawned. They're tired and hungry. Fish the lower stretches.......they'll stack up in the bigger pools until the water gets too warm. Then they head out to the lake. Sinker
-
Rice was between 55-58 yesterday. Pretty slow compared to usual on the opener. Still managed enough for a good feed, but had to work for them. Sinker

Things people don't know about the highway traffic act
Sinker replied to fishing n autograph's topic in General Discussion
Doesn't that just drive you nuts!!! My gawd......how can those people not know they're holding up traffic. If there is one thing that is a HUGE peeve of mine......you just nailed it. Same thing on any 400 series hwy........right lane is all clear......center and left lanes are blocked solid. Move the heck over !! Keep right except to pass......is that still a law or what......if it is, it needs to be enforced, and with a HUGE fine. Sinker -
Good luck! I'll be hitting the water, right after I drop a big ole tom!! Sinker

Congrats Bill! Nice bird! Sinker

Friggen sucks eh Brian!!! Bunch of loogans.......I'd have left and called the cops right away. Tell them there are people on your property with guns.......that'll get them there nice and quick!! I've had the same thing happen too. It sucks man, I feel for ya. Good luck tomorrow! Sinker

They were catching some perch on the pier at Virginia beach on tuesday. jackson's point should have some perch in close by now too. Both areas are fishable from shore for perch only for now. Sinker

Saturday for me too. I always seem to get stuck with the rainy days...... Sinker

I try not to get caught up in the fancy gizmo's........in all aspects of life.....why fix what's not broken? I don't have top quality fishing gear, but it all works, and I still catch plenty of fish. I have a cheap shotgun, and I kill as much game as the guy with a top of the line model. My boat is old and well used, but it works just as good as a new one. I see no reason to spend money, just so I have nicer things than the next guy....that's all. If you want to blow your money on nice stuff.....have atter my friend!! Its up to you what you do with it. I'm just saying that a rapala knife will do just as good a job.......and save you a few more bucks for other things.......an expensive knife won't make you better at filleting fish though And there are lots of people who think that having the best of the best make them "better". Hence the saying "more dollars than sense". (not meaning you ) I'm sure your top of the line knife works great though, and it prolly keeps its edge great too!! I'd let you clean my fish with it Sinker

If your going to port hope, you may as well go north another 20 mins to Bewdley and fish crappies from shore. You'd have better odds at catching something....... EDIT: Just read your part 1.......there are fish in rice lake. This was part of our catch from last year on opening day. Sinker
