  1. I think its the rail line as well Cliff......but I wouldn't bet on it either We took a run up the river on monday, passed the rail line, and didn't see any signs. I have been looking on maps I have here, and online as well, and there is nothing to show a boundary line. I've e-mailed the MNR, but chances are I won't get a reply in time for opener.......prolly won't get one by next years opener knowing those guys!! I'll make the call and let you know what I find out. Hopefully someone who knows will answer the phone, but I'm having my doubts! Best bet is to talk to the locals I'd say, but I'd like to be there set up for dinner friday night. We're going in the big boat, and staying at anchor for the night Sinker
  2. Hmm......nobody knows? Maybe there won't be a platoon of boats there....... Sinker
  3. Nice report Garry. We had the same kind of action on pigeon on friday. We got 32 in about 45 mins.....then it went dead. And all in the same kind of area....about 10x10. Sneaky little buggers them slabs are......great fun to fish for them though eh Sinker
  4. Listen to what solo said. I'd stay close to the south end/river area. I have a feeling they will still be close to the river this year. If not there, head for the lake. Shallow water is going to be key with the high, cold water this year. Gannons narrows gets some spawners as well as Nogies creek. I'm gonna start in the rivers, and work my way out to the first flats. Start with harnesses to find some, then try and jig them up. If that doesn't work, I'll go back to slow trolling spinners again. If they're not in the rivers or on the flats.......I'm going to simcoe for whities Good luck, Sinker
  5. I'm no electrical whiz.......as a matter of fact, thats one area I'm really lacking. By the sounds of what you wrote there, I'd say no. I don't think you can get enough amps to run a 24V motor, off one 12V battery. Something like that anyways....... Sinker
  6. Hey, I was thinking about trying the scugog river on the opener this year. After checking the regs for the boundary from the trent severn dam.......I don't know where the fenelon/ops boundary is? Here's the quote from the regs...... Scugog River (Lindsay) - Ops Twp., from Trent-Severn Dam to Ops-Fenelon boundary. Anyone know whereabouts this line is? It sure would be nice if they showed it on the map for area 17.......but I guess that's too much to ask for from the Ministry of No Results!! I know there will prolly be a platoon of boats right on the line, but I would like to see this line on a map, so I know FOR SURE!! North or south of the old train tressles? Any help is appreciated! Sinker
  7. Sounds good to me. My trailer tires take 80lbs.......talk about rock hard tires!! Sinker
  8. I forgot to mention that his boat will be taken out each time. It might stay in for a week here, or a week there, but most times it will be trailered in and out. We've been talking about it, and we're just going to do it. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the info! Sinker
  9. Ok.....thanks Capt Bruce. Sounds like that's the way to go. Thats what we'd intended on using, but just wanted to make sure. Next question. This boat is a 1980. Its never had any antifouling paint on it.....ever. The hull is in great shape.....we just give it a good wash/wax in the fall, and leave it at that. I've heard that once you start using the antifouling paint, that you have to start doing it every season, but if you leave it with no paint, there is no need for it?? This was advice I recieved from fresh water marine guys.......I don't think they know much about salt water..... I can see this being ok in fresh water, but this boat is headed for salt water. I'm assuming an antifouling paint is reccomended......? I know most of the boats down there now are glass. Just open boats, formed from previously owned wooden boats, and they don't use any antifouling paint. My dad was saying all they do is pull the boat out half way thru the summer, and scrub it off. I told him that if it was my boat, I'd do it. We don't get barnacles and such in fresh water, and I'm thinking that they'd be a bit harder to get off of a bare glass hull? He's starting to think its a waste of time and money to put the antifouling on, if there is no real need for it. Whaddya think? Thanks again for any advice! Sinker
  10. Thanks Roy, That's what we've used in the past in other situations.......on wood boats.......not much experience with glass What about Pettit Paints? I've heard lots of good things about them as well?
  11. Hey, My dad is towing his 26ft glass boat from here to NFLD sometime this month. The boat does not have an antfouling paint on the hull. We were wondering what you guys who know, would reccomend for a good antifouling paint, for use in salt water, on a glass hull? Doing some searching, there seems to be a big difference in pricing and components used in this type of paint....... Sinker
  12. Glad to hear you got it in Cliff. Sounds like you had lots of good help there!! I didn't get up there until after 5pm. By the time I went by, it looked like everyone was gone already, so I didn't want to bother you at dinner time. I'll be up there friday night for the opener. We put my dads boat in the water yesterday, so she's ready for one last trip on sturgeon, then the long haul to the rock for a first dip in the North Atlantic. Will you have your boat in the water for the weekend? We can prolly work something out if you don't and you want to go for a fish....... Sinker
  13. I wonder about this one too. This spring, I was icefishing up near north bay for whitefish. The limit is 12 whities per angler with a full license. On our way home with 20 whities between the 2 of us, we stopped by lake simcoe to take a look at the ice breaking up.......then the thought came about. Here we are.....with 2 pails in the back of the truck.......packed with snow.....full of whities....and the simcoe season was closed!! I could just imagine the look on a CO's face if he pulled up and saw that.....LOL. How do you prove something like that? I didn't really care....I had nothing to hide......and all was legit, but just imagine the interogation you'd go thru if a CO did show up? You'd better have some good answers!! Sinker
  14. I don't post many spots on the web, but if someone pm'ed me and asked nicely, I'd give them all the detailed info they'd need.......with a reminder to keep it on the down low. Not that I'm greedy, I just don't need a bunch of guys fishing my go to spots. There is just something about sharing my info with the whole world that I don't like. Sharing with another fisherman, one on one, or face to face at the boat launch is another story all together......I'll tell them everything.....I've even gave away my lure that was catching! I didn't have the web when I started looking for spots. I just went and fished.......and I was happy doing that. Now I pretty much fish the spots that produced when I went searching........the search is half of the adventure! Sinker
  15. This is on rice lake last year for crappie opener. This is acceptable, in this situation. The fish are schooled up tight, and you have to be right on them to get them. As long as I can cast as far as I can, and the guy in the next boat can as well......we're all happy. Now, if this were on another lake, for a different type of fish......I'd be getting the hell out of there, and finding a spot to myself. Sinker
  16. I was in there yesterday. He's fine. He was busy, so I didn't get a chance to talk to him..... Sinker
  17. Any info on the launch in Deseronto? Still accessible today or no? I'm thinking about heading out there in about an hour........ Sinker
  18. Are you positive it was a goby, and not a sculpin? Sinker
  19. Paying attention to the small details like that will get more fish in the boat!! There is always some little thing that makes a big difference. Thanks for the report, those are some nice slabs!! Sinker
  20. No personal experience, but I've heard some bad rumours about bayliners. My dad looked at a few when he bought his big boat, and they seem to cheap out on the extras. Not sure what their quality is like, but I haven't heard much good....... Sinker
  21. Longeared pumpkinseed? What did it taste like
  22. If you need a new axle, let me know. I have a connection in Lindsay for used, but great condition axles. I got mine with hubs and bearing buddies for $40!!! Sinker
  23. Hey, I know someone else with a Starcraft/mariner combo.........only mine is a little smaller! Great set up, and if its anything like mine......its bulletproof! Sinker
  24. If I can convince my little guy to sit in the rain for a while, I think we might go for a boat ride as well. Sinker
  25. I had a tire that looked like that, just after the axle snapped off. Are you sure your axle is not bent? Just from where it mounts to the spring, to the spindle? That's where mine went.....I could hardly see it, it was that close to the spring. On the underside of the axle, there was a hole where the spring fit in. Well, that hole caused the whole problem......she snapped right off. Lucky I was close to home when it happened. Take a good look at it. Sinker
