Bowmanville zoo is ok, but I'd go to the metro zoo if your looking to spend a day. You can do bowmanville in much less than a day, and I honestly think you'll be dissappointed coming from guelph. We usually get a family pass there, just because its so close, but by no means will it take you all day to see everything there. Sinker

My kids started out with the cheap barbie/batman type combos too. It didn't take long before I realized they were a waste of time and money. Just try and catch a fish yourself with one.......they suck!! Get them something that is capable of landing a fish, and is fairly reliable. My daughter just uses one of my spinning combo's, but my son uses a spincast outfit, but of decent quality. We were in Gagnons the other day and he picked up a new spinning outfit with his b-day money.......he's 7. Its nothing top of the line, but it has a drag that works OK, and it will cast a mile. It cost him around $50. You don't want to be untangling lines or losing fish due to a cheap set up. Start them off right with something that you could use yourself to catch a fish. I think most of those cheap set ups are useless. Sinker

Thats what I always say too......but today was a different game altogether for me. After 4 hours of nothing, I was ready to pack it in. They're easy to catch if they're there........but finding them was tough today. Between 3 of us, we kept around 60 perch. Prolly caught a couple hundred though Sinker

Yep, there are a lot of perch. They gave me the run around today though. It took a loooooooong time to find them. Catching them is the easy part!! S.

I did Got a few for the pan, had a great meal, and spent a great day with my little guy!! Can't beat that!! Still a bit of ice out there. Water is still really cold......34-38 degrees. All the usual spots I go were locked in with ice, or void of fish. We found them in an odd spot, and it took a lot of searching, but when we did, it was non stop action. Boat ran mint. No issues. Yep, this has been one of the tamest springs I can remember......so far anyways. I think the water is only that high, because they're holding it back at the locks. Sinker

They're high, but nothing like last year. Its normal for this time of year, nothing to worry about. Most of the snow is gone in the watershed anyways. I'd say they're on the receding end of the spring melt. Sinker

Have you tried it at 20 yds? 30? I'd also use smaller shells. I find 3.5's blow on me with waterfowl loads, so I don't use them. Never tried them in lead......no need. 3" shells are more than enough to kill anything......dead is dead. Patterning at 40 yds is fine, but if you plan on shooting your bird closer, you might want to see what its doing at those ranges as well. If your center of pattern is below where you aiming at 40yds, it could be much lower at 20-30 yds. You might want to look into that. Make sure your looking down the barrel the same way each shot......that will make a difference on where your shot goes. Sounds like your gun doesn't fit very well. I can look at a target, close my eyes, point my gun, and its dead on target. No messing around......it just goes where I look. PS, you shoulda got an 870!!! Sinker

By the looks of your pics, I'd say your pattern is blown. In other words, the shot is so tight that the pellets are actually crossing each other, and your left with a hole in the middle of your pattern. Hard to describe. I shoot 3" Kent #5 diamond shot 90% of the time. The key is getting them close. There is no need for 40yd shots at turkeys.....if they're coming, let them get close. The heavy shot is crazy, but not really needed......unless your taking crack shots at over 40 yds at turkeys......which you shouldn't. I'll take some pics of my pattern once I get out to pattern it. Maybe this weekend. I'm just shooting a remington extra full choke. I tried the turkey chokes and I found my Xfull was better. Every gun will shoot different. Take two guns that are identical, and they will pattern differently. You have to shoot a lot of shells, out of lots of chokes to find what works best. I find the best way to kill anything with a shotgun is to work them close......then shoot thier face off! Try aiming a little lower on your target too.........I aim for the base of the neck. If your aiming too high, half of your pattern is going to go over the bird. I'd rather have the center of the target on the neck, and all the rest of the shot above and below center still hitting the bird. Sinker

There used to be lots of musky in there, then pike moved in, so now if you get a musky, its a big one, and they're hard to catch. I cut my teeth fishing that lake for musky and used to get lots! Tons of pike in there now though, they'll keep ya busy. Sinker

Marind grade plywood is the best, but any plywood will work if you treat it right. I used cedar boards. Sinker
