Upcoming snow storm.. (NF) Finally got an answer!
Sinker replied to Gerritt's topic in General Discussion
This "can't drive to work because the roads are bad" mentality really pisses me off. We haven't even seen a flake of snow, and already, people are freaking out about a big storm Gimme a break, we haven't seen a real winter storm for years. A foot of snow is nothing, driving in it isn't a problem, just take your time and be careful. If I refused to work because of a snow storm, my co workers would laugh thier asses off at me. I'd be quite embarrassed even thinking of calling in. What has this world come to. Its Canada for god sakes, we're supposed to like cold and snow. What a bunch of wussies!!! Tell your buddy to get his purse out of the way, hop in the truck, and get his ass to work!!!!! S. -
There is a law somewhere about having a fire for the purpose of warmth, or cooking. I'm not sure if it relates to fires on the ice though. I know one thing, when Im in the woods speck fishing, I have a fire on the ice. If a CO ever came along, and gave me a ticket, he'd be seeing me in court. Its tradition, and I'll keep doing it until someone physically stops me from it!! I can understand on a busy lake in southern ontario, but in the back woods, your not gonna stop me from having my fried bologne and a nice cup of tea off the fire!! S.

I had the same deal with mine yesterday. It was snow/ice/slush in the backside of my rims. Doesn't help that I was driving all over scugog thru a foot of snow/slush in -20 temps S.

Looks like fun guys!! Also another reason to leave the expensive gear for the softwater!!! Stuff takes a beating out there! S.

I store everything full. I try to always run shell V-power with no ethanol, but sometimes just can't get it where I am. I've never in my life had a problem with bad gas, or dirty carbs. Just lucky? I dunno........I use seafoam as a stabilizer, and I run it as a cleaner once every fall or spring with a heavier dose. I swear, its the seafoam that keeps everything ticking along like a swiss watch! My small two strokes gas cans are stabilized every time, with V-power. My boat I will run whatever I can get if the shell gas isn't available, but I don't worry about that as much, cause I usually burn thru a tank in a week or less, so its not sitting around. S.

Now, that is better than any expensive ice rod I've seen Randy! I bet you don't need a strike indicator on it either Your a freakin genius!! S.

Radnine, I think its the posers of the fishing world that drive me nuts!! These guys with more bells and whistles than I care to mention, but have no clue how to catch fish. I've seen it so many times, I can't even count it. The self proclaimed "pros". No experience, just fancy gear!! I don't need top of the line gear to catch fish. Experience, and time on the water is far more valuable than an expensive ice rod. Peterc, I won't use a freakin bite indicator.......useless. If you don't know when your getting a bite by watching your line, you need to spend more time paying attention!!! Either that, or your gear is too heavy to show your getting bit!! I've tried them, and in my experience, they SUCK!!! S.

Thats because its a subaru Pretty reliable set of wheels!! Now, if your talking FORD, get as much warranty as you can S.

That eel with the pitbull face was probably what we call a sea cat. I'm not sure what the real name of them are, but I used to catch them off the wharf too. Big nasty teeth on them too!! Kinda like a cross between a musky and an eel. S.

I'm going in august for two weeks. Taking the kids for thier first visit. Now that the old man is back there, I'm missing it more and more all the time. Miss having him up here too, he was my go to net boy S.

I just see no point in wasting money for nuthin I guess. What I use works for me, so why fix whats not broken. A lot of guys think that because they have the best of everything, they are better fisherman. Sooooo no true!! Just because you have a high end rod/reel, doesn't mean squat! P.S. I still use my trusty 870, why change now?? My plastic decoys work good too, ya just gotta know where to put 'em, and how to put 'em there You can have all the best waterfowl gear you want, but if you can't shoot, it's not gonna help, right? S.

This is the most recent picture I have of home. This was Christmas eve. Huge storm, took out my dads Stage, and almost his house too. Here is his laneway to the house, his house and stage in the background. Crazy stuff me son!! The rock wall you see in this pic, saved the house. Its amazing how many people came out to help, on christmas eve. That rock wall went up in a couple hours. Here's the aftermath of the storm. Merry Christmas, eh? Not a wharf or stage left in the harbour!! Now I'm homesick!!! S.

Hey twocoda, I think your friend is a relative of mine! Small world huh? Man, I miss home so bad right now! Nice post Brian!! S.

I run my 55lb powerdrive off two batteries. It will go for a long, long time if your just positioning the boat. I can troll non stop for about 7 hours at 1.6mph in any wind. I usually have my limit by then, so its been good so far At full power, with a moderate wind, it will move my boat almost 3mph. I have a deep and wide 16ft starcraft. S.

What type of fishing do you do most? I like the powerdrives. I don't fish bass at all though. I like to sit at my seat at the tiller, turn on the bowmount, get my speed just perfect, and steer with the tiller of my big motor. If I want to use it to position the boat for a drift, or to cast for musky, I don't even have to get off my ass to do it. Everything is right at my feet. The key thing for me with the powerdrives is I can just turn it on, and go. I don't have to keep my foot on the pedal all the time. That wears me out after a day of fishing. The only problem with the powerdrives is the food pedal, and there are lots of ways around it. I just keep a spare handy. In 4 seasons, I've replaced mine once. S.

I've never seen whiskey freeze!! Beer is for the ladies. I pretty much always have my flask full of something in the ice. Not enough to get drunk, but just the right amount to keep me warm S.

Just for the record, I have met Debbe S.

You don't need a fancy ice rod. The cheapo's work just fine, trust me. |My most expensive ice rod cost me $30, and I've had it for years and years. I don't even know the brand name, it doesn't matter. As long as it feels good in your hand, and balances with the reel you intend to use, your good to go. Ice gear takes a beating, I'd rather have somthing that is tough, and will last, than the newest brand name that looks cool, but breaks on the first trip!! My go to ice rod is a 36" mitchell that I got at canadian tire probably close to 20 years ago. I could fill a truck with all the fish I've caught on it, and its never given me any grief at all. Tough, and works like a charm! S.

Heard Back from the Township of Innisfil
Sinker replied to Aaron Shirley's topic in General Discussion
I think a whole whack of you innisfil/barrie residents should show up and crash that council meeting. That would definitly make an impression. I would if I was closer. S. -
I've been asked that question by a few people now. I think I'm a pretty good judge of character, even thru internet posts, to know if someone is nuts or not. Even if they are nuts, we usually hit it off anyways......I'm surprised any of them would fish with me to be honest S.
-
I've met and fished with many OFC'ers. Always a good time, and everyone I've decided to fish with has been solid. I could write a list, but that would take me too long, no time right now. S.
-
Wow.......there must have been millions down there LOL Buckster didn't get spooled?? Imagine......... Good stuff boys!! S.
-
Glad you made it back OK Emil. Be careful out there, for god sakes. It would have been a nasty night out on that lake. 15km is a loooong ways. I've been in a couple situations out there as well.........don't count on passer-by's for help, most of them don't even blink an eye as they pass you by!!! S.

Yup, or a leaky fuel line, or weak pump. Do you have to wait for it to cool down before it will start again? S.
