  1. That top fish is BEAUTIFUL!!! Reminds me of the trout fishin I used to do at my grandparents when i was a child. Thanks for the memories.
  2. Here's my general rule ... 1.2 If you multiply the speed limit by 1.2, you will be fine 60 in a 50 72 in a 60 84 in a 70 96 in an 80 108 in a 90 120 in a 100 I find that this works pretty well
  3. A one piece rod offers more sensitivity and strength as there is no "break" in the unit. The only true advantage to a 2 piece rod is travel and storage convenience
  4. There were 2 tourneys actually. The Barrie Bassmasters had our Club Classic (top 6 boaters and top 6 non boaters), the Hawgtown Bassmasters had a tournament aswell
  5. Hey everyone... I'm doing a little research poll here for something I'm working on, please select all that apply What is your favourite lure(s) to use for bass, and your favourite rod(s) to fish them with. My favourite overall bait is the zoom superfluke, I fish it on a 6'6MH Johnny Morris Spinning Rod.
  6. Nice fish! Is that a smoke slammer I see ?
  7. Just seeing that spot gives me the "willies"
  8. thanks everyone. there should be plenty mor eof these reports coming soon. I live for fall smallmouth
  9. It says in the report they were. Our batteries died out there, and we were a pretty long way from the launch, so we brought them into shore to get batteries (in aerated livewells, for those concerned). They were all released following the pictures.
  10. Wednesday, Cal and I had an extra hour and a half, and what time is not worth fishing? We headed to the Scugog River and only got bit once, but Cal landed this beauty! Thursday I made a few drifts in Bowmanville Creek on my way home from work. I landed 1 male coho, and a nice brown hen, all on a black wooly bugger. Lots of big chinnies around racing upstream. Pic of the brown is on my cell phone, she was about 5 pounds. On Friday, I headed out to Lake Simcoe with Kelli and my dad. We fished a lot of new water, and found some great water. Lots of pigs today, all fish came on tubes and jerkbaits. Kelli caught her new PB smallie .... twice! Dad caught his new PB smallie! I never hit my PB, but I had a great day on the water. My camera batteries were dead so we brought our biggest 6 into shore for pictures, all fish were released after photos. What a GREAT DAY!!! Saturday was our club classic on Couchiching, after spending some time with Mark Kulik, I had a plan in place. I caught lots of fish on his dropshot slammers, including a nice 3 pounder. Unfortunately the rest were all small. I ended up getting a nice 3.5 pounder on a topwater at the end of the day. Although I landed about 30 fish, I only weighed 11.80 pounds, a 5th place finish. Can't win them ALL!!!! Thanks again Mark for the time and the baits, it is greatly appreciated, and the numbers gave me confidence. Winning weight was 17 in change.
  11. gotta love those smallies
  12. those fish are pigs, I would have said over 6 and over 4
  13. I'm pumped !!! haha, got the official confirmation today!
  14. Thanks guys, I didnt realize I had a fan base ... LOL It was a pretty awesome year, I was about to post a report, but I guess I'll do it here. Our club has a 4 fish limit, which is different from most clubs (most have 5). We have 4 per person, which makes a team limit of 8 fish. We fish 6 qualifying tournaments and take our top 4 for Angler of the Year standings. Our membership stands at 58 members. Here are my best 4 from the season... July 9, 2008 Lake Simcoe - Afternoon Tournament It was a really tough day, it was windy as could be, and I had already weighed in early from a completely seperate tournament to make it on time for this one. With 6 footers out on the lake, our best bet was to find shelter. I was lucky enough to be paired with my dad by random draw. We started off fishing some marinas for largemouth and my dad managed to boat a limit of small largies, but I wasnt having much luck (the difference between braid and fluoro). I ended up seeking shelter in a bay near Roches Point that had done well for me in the past. There were some giant smallies taking advantage of the rock bass spawn, but I lost my first 3 fish on a jerkbait. I finally switched to a spinnerbait, knowing I wouldnt get as many bites, but I'd land the vast majority of them. I landed 5 fish and weighed my biggest 4 at 9.50 pounds to take 5th place on a very tough day!!! August 13, 2008 Lake Couchiching - Afternoon Tournament I was paired with a new member today and my gameplan was different than most days. I used to do a lot of dock fishing on Cooch, but they have started to receive a lot of pressure and now hold a lot of smaller fish. My new plan involved deep weedlines. Both of us caught plenty of fish today dunking a 10 inch powerworm in deep milfoil beds, and throwing flukes over the more scattered weeds. I weighed my biggest 4 fish for 13.55 pounds for a first place finish, also had BIG FISH with a 4.40 pound largie. August 17, 2008 Six Mile Lake - Full day tournament This is one of my favourite lakes to fish, there are a ton of fish and they are scrappy as can be. I spent WAY too much time fishing shallow today, and although I had a quick limit, they were not big fish by any means. Finally in the last 2 hours I found better fish in 15 feet of water, dunking a 5" craw in deep weeds. I landed a better fish, then broke my 6 foot rod. I quickly changed my reel over to a 7 foot rod and lost 5 FISH IN A ROW!!!!!! That damn rod. I was dissapointed with my day coming into weigh-in, but it was a tough day for all and I managed 7th place with 7.85 pounds. September 21, 2008 Lake Muskoka - Full day tournament I worked until 2:30am in Lindsay, and I just drove right through to Lake Muskoka on no sleep. I had a fall plan and only managed to catch small fish, so I went to a back up plan that gave me a 3rd place finish here last year. I was in 6th place for AOY going into this final tournament and needed 3rd or better, and the guy in #1 needed 6th or worse for me to win. My backup plan worked .... I was throwing flukes over rockpiles in 8-10 feet of water and landed two beauties over 4 pounds, 1 was almost 5. My others were 2.5 ish. I came into weigh-in knowing I'd done my part. Winning weight here for our clubbies is usually 10-11 pounds (remember its only 4 fish) and I knew I had at least 13. Our leader had about 8 pounds and I knew it was going to be CLOSE!!!! He finished 8th, and I finished first with 13.85 pounds giving me the tournament and AOY win!!! On a side note for excitement, my dad weighed in a 6.15 pound largemouth out of Muskoka!!! He took big fish for the year, and qualified for our classic!!! my dad's PIG!!! A couple of my winning fish!
  15. Drop shot is a weight on the bottom of your rig, with the hook up the line (generally 10-20 inches) .... it helps you maintain bottom contact, while still keeping your bait in the strike zone, its a very effective way of fishing
  16. And even that is a biased number based on everyone tossing the small fish and keeping only their biggest. The Canadian tournament record is slightly under 30 pounds for 5 fish .... 29.7 or around that number. That's almost but not quite a 6 pound average, and trust me, that is NOT an average day of fishing. A 6 pound average for a lake as a whole is crazy talk, and I would pay big money (myself being a guide) to see a lake in Canada, or anywhere for that matter, where the average bass is 6 pounds.
  17. 4 pounds is not big for Simcoe.... a limit of 4 pounders, will not put you close to a tournament win .... this bag of fish wouldnt win a fall tourney on Simcoe !! We got these beauties in about 20 feet of water in late september on long shoal ... find the smelt, you'll find the smallies .... we get em in 20-40 as the season goes on.
  18. I remember reading a theory that the blue walleye is a fast evolution to the change in climate and that the bluish hue is an excretion used to repel the excess UV rays, almost a natural sunblock. There was actual science in the article, although I cant remember where I read it. Interesting theory though!
  19. I used to drive from Lindsay to work at BPS 5 days a week. Financially, I cant do it anymore, but I certainly don't regret it, a great place to work when you have great people like Roger to associate with, and the customers you meet from every walk of life. Great job Roger!
  20. never seen em in rainbows, but I know brookies gobble em up
  21. Judging by the water colour, and his location, it's pretty safe to say its a St. Clair fish
  22. Line capacity
  23. Rainbows were my thought also
  24. YEAH! Not to intrude, but what do you do for a living?
