  1. They were last best before last date. Got a 2 pack for $11 at Zhers. I just did a dry rub, brown sugar / kosher salt. Let get happy for 3 days, flipping over each day. Rinse, let air dry for 4hours after patting dry, then in the smoker for the 3,2,1. Smoked with apple.

  2. Looks fabulous, Brian. Did you take some back ribs, brine them in a bacon brine (or rub), then smoke? Don't think I ever saw "baby back ribs" for sale? Doug

  3. My experience of late with BPS is... they don't carry much inventory beyond the standard stuff you'd find at Sail, Canadian Tire, or Walmart. Most of the stuff labeled with their "house' brand is junk. Their staff for the most part are not knowledgeable at all. And the prices aren't that great. When I look around what people are actually buying at BPS..it's a suburban housewife purchasing a forest print comforter for the cottage, or a backyard chef buying a turkey deep fryer. Not a lot of hard core fishing types shopping there. It's become a "lifestyle" store. I prefer to do business with locally owned shops, staffed with people who know their stuff, and stocked with products that are relevant to the current angling scene. You'll find me in Fishing World, J-Pro, Gagnon's, Peterborough Pro Tackle or Pro Advantage.

  4. I was at BPS in Niagara Falls and the guy told me that their Fishing Classic is happening in April sometime. Dealing with these guys are painful - the juice is not worth the squeeze. I would rather support my local tackle shop and guys that support the Sportsman Show and other local shows

  5. To get the money they get in these tournaments sure get the fast boat lures rods and reels but for electronics just a bottom view with a narrow spread and a gps Im all for watching it then ,evens it out a whole lot and would likely change the field drastically I know guys rigged in this way would have a shot at the big boys toe to toe with impressive results.I know in the local area one morning we put the boots to 3 boats that jetted in from Kingston to 16 mile and they were not happy i have always liked paper charts and a depth sounder. peter

  6. The first unit I ever used was a flasher unit in a green box. It was just black and white showed the depth and would briefly flash if you had a fish or weeds above the bottom. I was lucky enough to have a friend who taught me how to read it and opened a whole world of what is down below me. I have now over the years graduated to down scan and side scan technology but in my dash, I still have my flasher (color now) to show me what is going on when I am rolling down the lake or fishing in deeper waters. When I am fishing for structure or fishy spots I am on the trolling motor and pressing waypoints to come back and fish over on the scan modes. I still carry my little fishing buoys and drop them in places to get my bearings on a pod of fish or an interesting structure. I guess if I was fishing for paychecks I would invest in the bigger baddest electronic items but for now, I will stick to my more basic fishing rig. It is funny but I don't even take pictures anymore unless it is a personal record the fun of simply sitting in the boat and conversing with my fishing buddies seems to be fulfilling enough for me nowadays.

  7. I'm assuming: LiveScope left, 2-D down, chart/map, LiveScope right I like to take my grandkids out fishing to get them away from video games. I'm just afraid the next generation is going to turn fishing into something that's not the experience we grew up with. The art and science of learning to "pattern fish" is becoming irrelevant. Seems to me it was a lot more fun when times were simpler..
