  2. Well after a four year absence in our club's (Stelco Fishing Club) annual awards night due to Covid we were finally able to host the event again last evening. The attendance fell far short of our pre Covid numbers but the evening was over all a success with approximately 140/150 people in attendance. I don't have many pictures as yet from the evening, I will share more when I have some. On behalf of the membership, the executive and myself, we all send our gratitude and thanks to Mr David Chong for making the trip to the Hammer to talk about our mutual passion, fishing! Good to see you again David, cheers and best wishes for the upcoming open water fishing season.

  3. Guided a group up from Wisconsin for some lake trout last week, kinda slow morning and we set up way later than I’d hoped but they got three decent ones and everyone got chased so good times.

  5. I will say that the terrova foot peddle saved me a fishing day on the Niagara once when the remote crapped out. I never use a foot pedal but I was glad to have it the one time I needed it, the remote is generally pretty reliable and I always carry spare batteries but that one went bad and I had to get a new remote.

  6. I think launching your boat and depending on the Ulterra trolling motor to bring your boat back to the dock is very amusing. Looks great on the video but one day something will go wrong and you will be swimming to get your boat back. LOL Hope its not cold. I launch solo all the time and ive never had a problem. Use a 20ft rope from the front side cleat. There is always something to tie to. If not, tie off to your trailer winch post.

  7. I know it's old that's why we are going to get along so well LOL. I have other, smaller outboards much older and still run perfect. I even have a 5hp sears that looks like new and runs the same.

  8. Thanks very much Spiel I appreciate it. I've been watching Kijiji very closely for a couple years now for a practical boat. I came across this one in the most unusual way. I was driving through a residential neighborhood and on a front lawn was a sign - boat for sale. I'm thinking what the ....'s up with that. He could have at least put the boat on the drive way. But there was just something about it so I went back. He took me into his garage and there it was. He's always kept it inside when he isn't using it. After some haggling I got it for two thousand bucks and all the goodies included. It was a no brainer. The Evinrude is a 9.9hp.

  9. Hi I would suggest if this is an engine you want to be good and reliable, that this is the time to bite the bullet and spend some money to get it into the best possible operating condition. You can replace the oiling system with new components so it will operate like new and be serviceable for many years or you could remove the oil injection system completely, and then mix your fuel with a high quality TCW-3 2 stroke oil. Given the age of the engine one or the other will be necessary. Before spending any money you should do a compression test to confirm that the engine is in good condition internally. As Crowman mentioned overheating is bad news, so it is most important to replace the water pump (I recommend every 2 years on these engines) check/test/replace the poppet valve and thermostat, cooling on these is critical and you don't want to destroy the engine due to overheating. Other items include possibly cleaning and rebuilding carburetors, replace fuel filter, install new spark plugs, replace the fuel lines with new ethanol compliant lines, change the lower unit oil and pressure test, check the condition of the plug wires and replace if needed, inspect all wiring for exposed terminals, chaffing etc. Make sure you have a good battery. It is very important to make sure that your RPM are in the proper range at WOT with a good quality prop in good condition. The boat should have a normal load in it for testing purposes. I believe you want the WOT RPM to be between 5000 and 5500 RPM. If you are not comfortable working on an engine like this then you should take it to good reputable mechanic. Hope this helps.
